This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IRS is nearing the end of its multi-year project on tax-exempt colleges and universities. The Colleges and Universities Compliance Project was launched in 2008 with the distribution of detailed questionnaires to 400 randomly-selected colleges and universities. The IRS selected 34 of the 400 for examination because their questionnaire responses and Form 990 reporting indicated potential noncompliance in the areas of unrelated business income and executive compensation. As exams were getting underway, the IRS released an Interim Report, presenting a preliminary overview of questionnaire responses. Now, with more than 90 percent of examinations completed, this Final Report provides additional analysis of the questionnaire responses and focuses on the examination results. Because colleges and universities were not randomly selected for examination, no assumptions should be drawn about the UBI and compensation practices of other colleges and universities based on the examination results.

Book Synopsis Charitable Giving and Tax Policy by : Gabrielle Fack
Download or read book Charitable Giving and Tax Policy written by Gabrielle Fack and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past couple of decades, differentials in the level of private contributions to charitable organizations have become a central matter of public policy. Because private charitable contributions finance many socially valuable activities (for example, education and the arts), many governments have tried to boost private philanthropy through various active policy interventions. Furthermore, the temptation to rely on private contributions to finance the provision of public goods has increased substantially in recent years as fiscal constraints have become tighter. Yet there is little robust quantitative evidence regarding the differentials in private charitable giving across countries, and more importantly very little consensus on why these differentials may exist. This volume provides an original, comparative, and historical analysis of charitable giving and of tax policies towards private philanthropy across different countries. It sheds new light on the determinants of private philanthropy and offers interesting practical insights for improving tax policies towards charitable giving.

Book Synopsis The Management of University-industry Relations by : Moshe Vigdor
Download or read book The Management of University-industry Relations written by Moshe Vigdor and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five case studies were conducted to collect empirical evidence on innovative mechanisms through which universities worldwide manage their relations with industry. Cases were selected from institutions of higher education in Israel, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, Brazil, and Uganda. These studies were selected for their innovative approaches, but also because they represent a wide range of development contexts. Taken together, the studies confirm the hypothesis that relations with industry have developed considerably over the past decade in all analyzed institutions. The scope of such relations is widening to embrace new types of linkages and new modalities for their implementation. The studies illustrate the variety of options that institutions have with regard to policy-making and organizational development. Chapters of this book are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "YISSUM, the Interface for University-Industry Partnerships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel" (Moshe Vigdor); (3) "The Management of University-Industry Relations in Papua New Guinea" (M. A. Satter and J. Pumwa); (4) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: Experiences of Bogazici University, Turkey" (Okyay Kaynak); (5) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: The Case of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil" (Guilherme Ary Plonski); and (6) "The Management of University-Industry Relations at Makerere University, Uganda" (Avitus Tibarimbasa and Eriabu Logujjo). Book Synopsis The Political Economy of Workplace Injury in Canada by : Bob Barnetson
Download or read book The Political Economy of Workplace Injury in Canada written by Bob Barnetson and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workplace injuries are common, avoidable, and unacceptable. The Political Economy of Workplace Injury in Canada reveals how employers and governments engage in ineffective injury prevention efforts, intervening only when necessary to maintain standard legitimacy. Barnetson sheds light on this faulty system, highlighting the way in which employers create dangerous work environments yet pour billions of dollars into compensation and treatment. Examining this dynamic clarifies the way in which production costs are passed on to workers in the form of workplace injuries.
