Book excerpt: “Stable Affairs” picks up immediately where the book “Horse Scents” ended. There will be new beginnings and there will be new endings. Many familiar faces return, along with the addition of several brand new, interesting characters. Those readers of the previous book will learn a little more about Mary Pat Phillips and her family; Marty Howce reveals a surprising hidden talent; Stet Brandson’s grand ambition materializes with a lot of love and support; we are introduced to a Zumba instructor with energy and patience to spare; a strikingly beautiful African-American artist has a very unique way of painting; and a new boarder at the stable who loves to read thrillers will have an encounter she never could have imagined. One year, month by month, in the lives of the boarders at CedarView Stable will bring humor and sadness, euphoric successes and devastating tragedy, life and death, romance and surprises, horse sense and nonsense. As with “Horse Scents”, the tales within reveal a microcosm of humanity and readers just might recognize themselves, or someone they know.
Book Synopsis Stable Outside, Fragile Inside? by : Emilian Kavalski
Download or read book Stable Outside, Fragile Inside? written by Emilian Kavalski and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of Soviet disintegration, Central Asia became an idiom for the ensuing confusion in the post-Cold War climate of international affairs, characterized by inter-state order and intra-state anarchy. Dynamic changes associated with the end of communism, the 'revival' of ethnic, religious and clan mobilization and the gradual involvement of various international actors, have inspired extensive scholarly and policy engagement with the region. Yet most analyses fail to bring Central Asia into the mainstream of systematic interrogation. This timely volume analyzes the quality of statehood in the region by assessing the complex dynamics of Central Asian state-making and focusing on the simultaneous patterns of socialization and internalization in the region. It straddles four different bodies of literature and addresses the systematic lacunae in all of them to investigate the localization effects of Russia, China, the EU and NATO on forms of post-Soviet statehood in Central Asia - placing Central Asia in the study and practice of world politics.

Book Synopsis Sino-Japanese Relations in a Trilateral Context by : Yun Zhang
Download or read book Sino-Japanese Relations in a Trilateral Context written by Yun Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-24 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the increasingly turbulent Sino–Japanese relations since the 2000s by innovatively investigating the formation mechanism of mutual misperception deeply rooted in China-Japan-U.S. trilateral structural dynamics. The political and security relationship has been increasingly deteriorating against the high interdependency between the world’s second and third largest economies. More ironically, both sides have also shown the intent and made efforts to improve bilateral ties. The author systematically conducts a focused comparison of the evolution of the Sino-Japanese mutual perceptions and policies toward one another during the past decade and a half. Empirically, Yun Zhang closely examines five case studies that provide insights to IR students and scholars and policy makers on how misperception and mistrust have formed, replicated, and intensified.

Book Synopsis Mapping Central Asia by : Sébastien Peyrouse
Download or read book Mapping Central Asia written by Sébastien Peyrouse and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With renewed American involvement in Afghanistan, Pakistan's growing fragility, and China's rise in power in the post-Soviet space, Central Asia-South Asia relations have become central to understanding the future of the Eurasian continent. Mapping Central Asia identifies the trends, attitudes, and ideas that are key to structuring the Central Asia-South Asia axis in the coming decade. Structured in three parts, the book skillfully guides us through the importance of the historical links between the Indian sub-continent and Central Asia, the regional and global context in which the developing of closer relations between India and Central Asia has presented itself since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the precise domains of Indo-Central Asian cooperation, and studies three conflict zones that frame Indo-Central Asian relations: the Kashmir question; the situation in Afghanistan; and fear of destabilization in Xinjiang. The international line-up of established scholars convincingly demonstrate the fundamental necessity to define the Indian approach on these issues and provide cutting-edge insights on the tools needed to understand the solutions for the decade to come.
