Book Synopsis Stability and Control Derivatives for the F-4E Aircraft by : David L. Carleton
Download or read book Stability and Control Derivatives for the F-4E Aircraft written by David L. Carleton and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document presents stability and control derivatives for the F-4E aircraft which were extracted from flight test data using several data reduction techniques. Data reduction methods gave realistic results but the quality of the results could be improved. Flight test results were compared with available wind tunnel predictions. Flight test results differed significantly from the wind tunnel data by showing a strong noseup pitching moment when accelerating through the transonic region, positive directional stability over the sideslip range was encountered during wing rock at high angles of attack, and large adverse yaw due to aileron deflection at high angles of attack. This book was released on 2018-07-03 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of parameter identification to determine the lateral-directional stability and control derivatives of an F-18 research aircraft in its basic hardware and software configuration are presented. The derivatives are estimated from dynamic flight data using a specialized identification program developed at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center. The formulation uses the linearized aircraft equations of motions in their continuous/discrete form and a maximum likelihood estimator that accounts for both state and measurement noise. State noise is used to model the uncommanded forcing function caused by unsteady aerodynamics, such as separated and vortical flows, over the aircraft. The derivatives are plotted as functions of angle of attack between 3 deg and 47 deg and compared with wind-tunnel predictions. The quality of the derivative estimates obtained by parameter identification is somewhat degraded because the maneuvers were flown with the aircraft's control augmentation system engaged, which introduced relatively high correlations between the control variables and response variables as a result of control motions from the feedback control system. Download or read book Aircraft Motion Sensitivity to Cross and Cross-coupling Damping Derivatives written by R. W. Butler and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to provide some insight into the importance of dynamic cross and cross-coupling derivatives in motion simulation studies of fighter aircraft in the maneuvering flight regime. The aircraft motion sensitivity to the various derivatives is ascertained in level and turning flight utilizing a 5 deg of freedom linearized stability program. The results are presented in a root locus format.
