This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written for the practicing chemist whose occasional task may be qualitative analysis. It deals with the investigation of things as they are without any limitations to the scope. It emphasizes the identification of materials - inorganic, organic, organized (biological), common, rare, described or not described in the accessible literatur- as they actually occur in nature and industry, or are met in the investigation of mishaps and crime. The description of techniques - macro to submicro - and the practice exercises have been included since the teaching of these arts is rarely a part of academic curricula and it happens with increasing frequency that chemists have to acquire them "on the job". In the systematic procedure given, emphasis is placed upon the investiga tion of minute specimens and upon acute reasoning that continuously weighs all accumulating evi9.ence. The work begins with the consideration of the history of the material under investigation. Especially when specks of all organic substance shall be identified, it should be realized that the discovery of the source - and consequently of the possibilities involve- may be the most valuable clue to an efficient solution of the problem.

Book Synopsis Sampling and Sample Preparation in Field and Laboratory by : Janusz Pawliszyn
Download or read book Sampling and Sample Preparation in Field and Laboratory written by Janusz Pawliszyn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-09-09 with total page 1170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title is the first comprehensive book on sampling and modern sample preparation techniques and has several main objectives: to facilitate recognition of sample preparation as both an integral part of the analytical process; to present a fundamental basis and unified theoretical approach for the professional development of sample preparation; to emphasize new developments in sample preparation technology; and to highlight the future impact of sample preparation on new directions in analytical science, particularly automation, miniaturization and field implementation. Until recently, there has been relatively little scientific interest in sampling and sample preparation, however this situation is presently changing as sampling and sample preparation become integral parts of the analytical process with their own unique challenges and research opportunities. Sampling and Sample Preparation for Field and Laboratory is an essential resource for all analytical chemists, and in particular those involved in method development. Not only does it cover the fundamental aspects of extraction, it also covers applications in various matrices and includes sampling strategies and equipment and how these can be integrated into the analytical process for maximum efficiency.

Book Synopsis Passive Sampling Techniques in Environmental Monitoring by : Richard Greenwood
Download or read book Passive Sampling Techniques in Environmental Monitoring written by Richard Greenwood and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-07-03 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monitoring pollutants in air, soil and water is a routine requirement in the workplace, and in the wider environment. Passive samplers can provide a representative picture of levels of pollutants over a period of time from days to months by measuring the average concentrations to which they have been exposed. Air monitors are widely used, for instance to measure the exposure of workers to volatile compounds, but also for monitoring the fate of pollutants in the atmosphere. Passive sampling devices are now becomining increasingly used to monitor pollutants in rivers, coastal waters and ground water where contamination results from sources such as domestic and industrial discharges, and the use of agrochemicals. Passive Sampling Techniques in Environmental Monitoring provides a timely collection of information on a set of techniques that help monitor the quality of air, surface and ground waters. Passive sampling can provide an inexpensive means of obtaining a representative picture of quality over a period of time, even where levels of pollutants fluctuate due to discontinuous discharges or seasonal application of chemicals such as pesticides. Recent changes in legislation have increased the pressure to obtain better information than that provided by classical infrequent spot sampling.Brought together in one source, this book looks at the performance of a range of devices for the passive sampling of metals, and of non-polar and polar organic chemicals in air and in water. The strengths and weaknesses and the range of applicability of the technology are considered.* Comprehensive review of passive sampling - covering air, water and majority of available technologies in one volume* Chapters written by international specialist experts * Covers theory and applications, providing background information and guidelines for use in the field

Book Synopsis Micromanipulators and Micromanipulation by : Hamed M. El-Badry

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the course of the years since H. D. SCHMIDT, in 1895, describcd his "microscopic dissector," a mechanical device for dissecting and study ing biological materials, a great wealth of information has been pub lished in the scientific and technical literature on methods involving the use of exceedingly delicate microtools mechanically guided under microscopic control for the investigation of microscopic structures and very small amounts of material.. The operative tools used can be moved with considerable precision under various microscopic magnifications to perform the required tasks. With the continuous progress in these methods, hundreds of micro manipulators and other mechanical manipulativc devices, auxiliaryequip ment, and a great diversity of microtools have been described for per forming varied operations on practically any type of materials and test objects. Thus, micromanipulative and related techniques have become innumerable and often intricate, and the applications, formerly confined to certain fields of biology and medicine, have been extended to the most diverse fields of science and technology as mtn be Been from a rapid glance at the contents of the presEmt volume.
