Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like Lincoln, Oglesby was born in Kentucky and spent most of his youth in central Illinois, apprenticing as a lawyer in Springfield and standing for election to the Illinois legislature Congress, and U.S. Senate. Oglesby participated in the battles of Cerro Gordo and Vera Cruz during the Mexican-American War and made a small fortune in the gold rush of 1849. A superlative speaker, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in a campaign that featured the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858, then was elected to the Illinois senate as Lincoln was being elected president.
Book Synopsis The Theory of the Optical Wedge Beam Splitter by : Yardley Beers
Download or read book The Theory of the Optical Wedge Beam Splitter written by Yardley Beers and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An optical wedge beam splitter consists of a prism of transparent material with a very small apex angle, usually about one degree. If a pencil beam of radiation is incident upon it, a portion enters the material and undergoes a series of reflections at the surfaces. At each reflection a refracted beam emerges from the material. This paper gives the basic theory for computing the ratio of the intensity of the incident beam to the intensity of any selected emerging beam and also for computing the direction of the emerging beam, assuming that the wedge angle, index of refraction, angle of incidence, and number of reflections are known. The paper also gives the results of numerical calculations based upon this theory for sample situations which are of interest. (Modified author abstract).

Book excerpt: When twenty-three-year old Mackenzie Foster wakes up in Kurat Manor to find herself captive to a sadistic stranger, she doesn't panic or cower in a corner. Instead, using her knowledge of horror video games, she comes up with a plan and prepares for the worst. But with insane, faceless creatures lurking the halls, notes detailing the experiments taking pace inside, and a timid school teacher who's more of a hindrance than a help, surviving the night might be more than she's capable of.

Download or read book Ultrafast Phenomena VII written by Charles B. Harris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent improvements in the performance of light sources, i.e. reduction in pulse length and increases in wavelength range and power levels, have led to ultrafast technology becoming a basic tool in a wide variety of scientific fields. This book describes the remarkable technological improvements and results of new applications in the natural sciences and various engineering fields.
Download or read book Uncommon Knowledge written by Al McDowell and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops new science of gravity and light based on the century-old Le Sage theory of an "ether" that was replaced by Einstein's Theory of Relativity. After presenting astrophysical data contradicting the theory that the universe is expanding from a Big Bang, experiments believed to prove Relativity are shown to actually prove the ether theory instead. Freedom from the speed limit of light enables a science of subatomic particles traveling faster than light to produce gravity, electric and magnetic fields, light, and radio waves. Major technical innovations include solving the two fundamental problems with the Le Sage gravity theory and extending this theory to electromagnetism and consciousness. This is a "theory of everything" that explains the heretofore-unknown causes of the forces of nature. This book builds on the works of Zecharia Sitchin and other authors to explain how life developed on Earth and that evolution requires direction from intelligence that dwells in the subatomic particles on which this theory of gravity and light is based. Our biblical God is shown to be a composite of Sitchin's extraterrestrial "gods" who colonized Earth and the intelligence that dwells alongside our own mind in the particles from which the universe is constructed and powered.

Book Synopsis Electronics for Guitarists by : Denton J. Dailey
Download or read book Electronics for Guitarists written by Denton J. Dailey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition of Electronics for Guitarists author Denton Dailey teaches the basic theory of operation and design principles of analog guitar signal processing circuits and amplifiers. The design and operation of common effects circuits such as tone controls, preamps, phasers, flangers, envelope followers, distortion and overdrives are covered, as are both solid-state amplifiers and power supplies. Written primarily for the guitarist, this book balances coverage of theoretical analysis and design while providing many examples of practical experimental circuits. The main thrust of the material is analog circuitry, focusing on fundamental principles of transistors, integrated circuit and vacuum tube-based amplifier operation and theory, and operation of typical guitar signal processing effects circuits. Updated to the new edition include: • New coverage of tone control circuits, MOSFETS and their applications as small-signal amplifiers, rail splitters and charge pumps, amplifiers using germanium transistors, and tube power amp design • Expanded coverage of numerous subjects such as vacuum tube power supplies, the digital oscilloscope, Darlington and Sziklai transistors, and signal spectra and transfer function symmetry • Additional examples of various circuits such as overdrive, distortion, chorus, delay, tremolo and auto-wah circuits as well as amplifier design Electronics for Guitarists is ideal for the musician or engineer interested in analog signal processing. The material is also useful to general electronics hobbyists, technologists and engineers with an interest in guitar and music-related electronics applications.
