Book Synopsis The Rich Hiker's Guide to Walking with God by : Paul Krautmann
Download or read book The Rich Hiker's Guide to Walking with God written by Paul Krautmann and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rich hiker's guide to walking with God We are all spiritual hikers on a journey towards the Kingdom of God. And we are rich. This inspiring and informative guide starts by looking at the basic attitude and approach we are to have in our walk with God, and goes on to answer such questions as: where, why and how we are to walk, and takes a look at some of the various walking styles we may adopt at different stages of our lives. It also examines a number of pitfalls and potholes we can fall into, and provides some guidelines for spiritual foot care. In this very readable and entertaining guide, Paul Krautmann weaves in some of his own personal experiences and observations, culled from his adventures as church pastor in South America and the Caribbean, and his present work with World Vision in Australia. Having travelled and survived the rocky road from cultish legalism to grace and truth in Jesus Christ, Worldwide Church of God minister Paul Krautmann has learned much about walking with God. Born in England, he trained as a librarian, then worked for two years in Guyana at the National Library as a Voluntary Service Overseas volunteer. During that time, through the ministry of Herbert W. Armstrong, Paul surrendered his life to God, and in 1972 entered Ambassador College, graduating in 1975. He returned to Guyana to work at the National Library, and also to take care of the fledgling church there. He served as full time pastor from 1978 to 1989 when he was transferred to the Caribbean to pastor churches in Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Dominica. In 1999 Paul and his Guyanese wife Unita moved to Perth, Western Australia. They have three children: Emil, Lorna and Paul.
Download or read book Walking with a Limp written by Ezra Byer and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-12-20 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I’ve always loved the book of Genesis, where faith in the eternal, unchanging God of Abraham proves—paradoxically—to be more human than heroic. This is surely why I appreciate Ezra Byer’s exploration of the life of Jacob, whose story provides a window for examining his own seasons of doubt and depression. Mercifully, Ezra strips us of the illusion that faith will always be the swift, steady, sure climb. He reminds that we might cling to God—and still feel his absence. This is a book for the trenches—a book for building gritty, honest, ultimately resilient faith.” – Jen Pollock Michel, Author of Surprised by Paradox and Keeping Place “Walking with a Limp will point you to the sure sources of hope for the hopeless: The God of all hope and His word of hope. In it you’ll find practical help and encouragement to stay the course. You, like Jacob, can be a prince with God, an overcomer whose limp testifies to tenacious clinging to God.” – Dr. Philip Brown, Author of A Reader’s Hebrew Bible “In recent years, believers in Christ have become more transparent about the struggles we face with depression and mental illness. In this timely book, Ezra Byer contributes to this encouraging trend by inviting readers to re-read the ancient narrative of the Patriarch Jacob and encounter anew the God who heals and also sets apart his people for worship and service.” – Dr. Edward Smither, Author of Mission in the Early Church and Christian Martyrdom “When we suffer, we don’t need glib answers or easy truths. We need to hear from someone who knows what it’s like, can remind us of biblical truth, and point us to hope. That’s why I’m grateful that Ezra has written this honest, profound, and encouraging book. I can’t wait to read it again and to share it with others.” – Darryl Dash, Author of How to Grow

Book excerpt: Put your flawed foot forward. Pick up most leadership books and you’ll find strategies for leveraging your power and minimizing your areas of weakness. But think about the leaders whose names have gone down in history. Most of them were so messed up that, if they were looking for work today, no executive placement service would give them the time of day. God’s criteria for choosing leaders runs counter to the conventional wisdom. Our culture equates strength with effectiveness, but God favors leaders who know the value of brokenness. In Leading With a Limp, you’ll discover what makes flawed leaders so successful. They’re not preoccupied with protecting their image, they are undaunted by chaos and complexity, they are ready to risk failure in moving an organization from what is to what should be. God chooses leaders who aren’t deceived by the myths of power and control, but who realize that God’s power is found in brokenness. If you are a leader–or if you have been making excuses to avoid leading–find out how you can take full advantage of your weakness. A limping leader is the person God uses to accomplish amazing things. To go deeper, check out the Leading With a Limp Workbook.

Book Synopsis Pause - A Spiritual Power by : Rob Wykes
Download or read book Pause - A Spiritual Power written by Rob Wykes and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-25 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opportunities to enter a spiritual place are all around us, but we often don't recognise them. Pause - A Spiritual Power helps the reader identify those moments and enter places of spiritual pause. The spiritual life, often neglected, exists apart from our thoughts and feelings. Pause explores how spirituality is separate and how we often mistakenly substitute rational and emotional experiences for spiritual experience. To be spiritual is not to be religious or bound to a specific understanding of God. To be human is to have a spirit within, regardless of religious commitment or persuasion. Attending to one's spiritual life, finding pause, is not confined or defined by any one faith tradition. In Pause, author Rob Wykes relates accounts of his own journeys - physical and spiritual - that have helped him discover his own spiritual self. Part of his story is a literal pilgrimage on foot and by bike that brought him into a deeper understanding of pause. Attending to one's spiritual being is as important as physical health and emotional self-care. Learning to find pause in life's experiences and to enter those spiritual places yields profound meaning and pleasure many have never before known.

Doctors cannot offer a preferred treatment plan: radiation and surgery are equally valid but carry vastly different risks and consequences. She herself must choose. She plunges into a maze of medical research, but the analytical mode of Western culture cannot help her find peace in her decision. Instead, she is unwittingly led along an ancient prayer path called Lectio Divina, and transformed by inexplicable and repeated encounters with goodness. Still a community's shepherd in faith, she shoulders the question they too ask: "Can God be found here?" The maze becomes a labyrinth: a spiritual journey that brings her to a center that holds. Her decision made, she undergoes treatment. "You must have been terrified," a friend says. That is when the author realizes that her experience is unusual: she had not been afraid. How to explain that? This memoir recounts how her ideas of God and self are reshaped as she discovers a place of deep knowing and trust. Humbled and surprised, she experiences in her body the gospel she has preached for years.

Book Synopsis Developing Spiritual Understanding by : Eduardo Villegas
Download or read book Developing Spiritual Understanding written by Eduardo Villegas and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Intellectual and Emotional Intelligence, there is another field of knowledge that is less visible but no less real: Spiritual Understanding. Even though the Bible affirms that the Spirit searches the God's depths and reveals it to us,1 many people think that this divine knowledge is reserved only for mystics and religious leaders. But the Bible was not written to found cults or religions but rather to reveal what is in the heart of the Creator to use, and to give us life. This is why it says that we live by every Word that comes from the mouth of God.2 Only the Bible contains the Word that comes from His mouth and stems from His heart. 3 If you know His Word, you also know His heart, His will. This is what the Apostle Paul calls Spiritual Understanding.4 God has plans for your life and that of your descendants, and you have a transcendent role in each of them, but you cannot achieve your purpose if you do not know the will of The One who created you. And to get to know someone there is nothing better than entering into a friendship. Allow me to help you get to know Him. Only by knowing the Holy Spirit can you activate all the potential that He has put inside of you.
Book Synopsis Your Identity in the Trinity by : Sean Cole
Download or read book Your Identity in the Trinity written by Sean Cole and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many believers struggle with assurance of salvation, tending to approach obedience to God out of either guilt or legalism. We exist to display God's glory, declare God's gospel, and disciple for God's Great Commission. Instead of embracing these truths, many Christians have believed the lie that their identity in Christ does not affect how they live their lives in obedience to him. The gospel tells us that “being” (identity) comes before “doing” (obedience). This lack of understanding our gospel identity frequently results in either legalistic pride or frustrating guilt. The purpose of this book is to help believers understand their identity in the three persons of the Trinity and then joyfully serve God with gospel obedience. The gospel indicatives in the Bible serve as the fountain and power for obeying the moral imperatives in the Bible. The gospel roots our assurance of salvation and motivation to obey God in our identity, not in moralism, which elevates our performance instead of exalting the finished work of Christ.
