Book Synopsis Legal Aspects of Anaesthesia by : J. F. Crul
Download or read book Legal Aspects of Anaesthesia written by J. F. Crul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-08-31 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J.F. Crul The topic Legal Aspects of Anaesthesia is still rarely treated in book publications, but deserves increasing attention as more cases of litigation occur each year and anaesthetists also become more aware of the legal structure within which they practice their profession. I am happy to have been able to obtain the cooperation of experts in this field from various European countries. The contributing authors in this book come from both the anaesthesia and surgery side as well as from the jurisprudential background. As these two fields have their own professional jargon we have been very careful in using definitions, avoiding that a specific term might lead to misunderstanding and confusion. The international authorship did not facilitate this task. The subject of this book was also the topic of a meeting of the European Academy of Anaesthesiology held at the French Study Center, La Suquette, Saint Vincent Ie Palue~ held three years before publication of this book. The organizers G. Barrier, J.F. Crul, and J. Lassner felt the need for a book publication presenting the state of the art of anaesthesia and the law in European countries. With the present book this plan has been realized. During the meeting many subjects were thoroughly discussed and the editor considered a number of them as very informative and therefore these were included in this book.

In addition to the discipline of Anesthesiology, other specialists, who use local and regional anesthesia techniques, (surgeons, ophthalmologists, emergency medicine physicians and dentists), have also contributed to this edition of the book. Each chapter has been thoroughly revised, brought up-to-date, and features full color images. Individual chapters cover complications associated with specific nerve blocks; IV and catheter methods; obstetric regional anesthesia; pediatric regional anesthesia; ophthalmic regional anesthesia; and treatment of acute and chronic pain.

Book excerpt: Now in a fully updated Fifth Edition, Shnider and Levinson's Anesthesia for Obstetrics, continues to provide the comprehensive coverage that has made it the leading reference in the field. The rising number of Cesarean births and the more advanced age of first-time mothers in the United States have brought with them an increased risk for complications, making the role of the obstetric anesthesiologist increasingly important. This comprehensive reference addresses maternal and fetal physiology; fetal assessment; anesthesia and analgesia in both vaginal and Ceserean delivery; neonatal well-being; management of fetal, maternal, and anesthetic complications; and management of coexisting disorders in the mother. The Fifth Edition includes a new editorial team, a new full-color format, and new sections on Assessment of the Fetus, Anesthesia for Cesarean Delivery; Neonatal Well-Being: Old and New Concepts; Ethical, Medical, and Social Challenges and Issues; Maternal Safety, Difficult and Failed Intubation, Morbidity, and Mortality; and Anesthetic Considerations for Reproductive, In-Utero, and Non-Obstetric Procedures

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theodore H. Stanley, M. D. Anesthesia and the Lung contains the Refresher Course manuscripts of the presentations of the 34th Annual Postgraduate Course in Anesthesiology which took place at The Cliff Conference Center in Snowbird, Utah, February 17-21, 1989. The chapters reflect recent advances in the diagnosis, pre-, intra-, and postoperative anesthetic management of patients with lung disease, presenting for pulmonary and non-pulmonary surgery. They also deal with ventilation-perfusion issues, the lung as a metabolic organ, the effects of anesthesia on pulmonary mechanics and pulmonary blood flow. In addition there are chapters that will focus around hypoxia; regional differences in the lung; pulmonary surfactant; recent advances in the understanding of pulmonary edema; high altitude disease; anesthesia and the control of breathing; recent developments in oximetry; instrumentation designed to measure pulmonary oxygen tension, P0 and PC0 trans 2 2 cutaneously; differential lung ventilation; reactive airways; septic shock; the adult respiratory distress syndrome and numerous aspects of ventilatory support. The purposes of the textbook are to 1) act as a reference for the anesthesiologists attending the meeting, and 2) serve as a vehicle to bring many of the latest concepts in anesthesiology to others within a short time of the formal presenta tion. Each chapter is a brief but sharply focused glimpse of the interests in anesthesia expressed at the conference.
