This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pulp magazines of the early to mid 20th Century are often "politically incorrect" by modern standards. However, the "Spicy" magazines -- Spicy-Adventure Stories, Spicy Mystery, Spicy Western, etc. -- were politically incorrect by their own contemporary standards as well. With the occasional passing glimpse of a creamy-smooth thigh (or other womanly part!), and often filled with sexism, racism, and over-the-top plots and language, they nevertheless manage to titillate with more innuendo than anything else. If you find such things offensive, this is definitely not the right MEGAPACK™ for you. But if you enjoy the occasional stroll down the back alleys of pulp publishing, here's a walk on the seamy side of the 1930s! Included are: THE SHANGHAI JESTER, by Robert Leslie Bellem BLACK MURDER, by Carl Moore SUEZ SOUVENIR, by Jerome Hyams THE HOUSE OF WEIRD SLEEP, by Charles R. Book Synopsis Pulp Classics by : John Gregory Betancourt
Download or read book Pulp Classics written by John Gregory Betancourt and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2004-06-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The famous "weird menace" pulp magazines of the 1930s and 1940s are among the rarest and most sought-after publications by collectors. The "Spicy" magazines -- which included Spicy Mystery, Spicy Adventure, Spicy Detective, and others -- published a titilating mix of fantasy, horror, mystery, and suspense, punctuated by episodes of torture, sadism, sex, and other risque elements. Although tame by current standards, and sometimes of dubious literary merit, these publications presented tales which thrilled a sensation-hungry audience. Despite the themes and constraints of the market, writers who would later become famous -- including Hugh B. Cave, E. Hoffman Price, Robert Leslie Bellem, and many more -- were frequent contributors. The February 1937 issue features Bellem, Hugh Speer, Justin Case (Hugh B. Cave), and many others -- plus all the classic "spicy" artwork!

Book Synopsis She Devil (The Girl on the Hell Ship) by : Robert E. Howard
Download or read book She Devil (The Girl on the Hell Ship) written by Robert E. Howard and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2015-02-12 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in the 1936 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'She Devil' is one of Howard's spicy stories featuring the charcter Wild Bill Clayton. Robert Ervin Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. During his youth, his family moved between a variety of Texan boomtowns, and Howard - a bookish and somewhat introverted child - was steeped in the violent myths and legends of the Old South. At fifteen Howard began to read the pulp magazines of the day, and to write more seriously. The December 1922 issue of his high school newspaper featured two of his stories, 'Golden Hope Christmas' and 'West is West'. In 1924 he sold his first piece - a short caveman tale titled 'Spear and Fang' - for $16 to the not-yet-famous Weird Tales magazine. Howard's most famous character, Conan the Cimmerian, was a barbarian-turned-King during the Hyborian Age, a mythical period of some 12,000 years ago. Conan featured in seventeen Weird Tales stories between 1933 and 1936 which is why Howard is now regarded as having spawned the 'sword and sorcery' genre. The Conan stories have since been adapted many times, most famously in the series of films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Book Synopsis The E. Hoffmann Price Spicy Adventure MEGAPACK ® by : E. Hoffmann Price
Download or read book The E. Hoffmann Price Spicy Adventure MEGAPACK ® written by E. Hoffmann Price and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E. Hoffmann Price was one of the "Weird Tales Circle" that included H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, and Clark Ashton Smith. In fact, he was the only person to meet both Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft in person. The stories collected here span multiple genres and multiple decades: detective, western, adventure, and fantasy. The one thing they have in common (aside from some mildly titillating content) is the sure voice of a born storyteller. Once you start reading an E. Hoffmann Price story, you won't put it down. The introduction by Darrell Schweitzer, which leads off the collection, provides a lot more information on Ed’s work for the "Spicy" magazines...though quite tame by modern standards, they were considered quite risque in their day. Included in this volume are: INTRODUCTION, by Darrell Schweitzer SATAN'S DAUGHTER PIT OF MADNESS THE WALKING DEAD EVERY MAN A KING REVOLT OF THE DAMNED CRYSTAL CLUES NIGHT IN MANILA MURDER SALVAGE TRIANGLE WITH VARIATIONS SCOURGE OF THE SILVER DRAGON DRINK OR DRAW SHE HERDED HIM AROUND YOU CAN'T FIGHT A WOMAN SHORT-CUT TO HELL If you enjoy this ebook, search your favorite ebook store for ""Wildside Press Megapack"" to see the 170+ entries in the MEGAPACKTM ebook series, covering science fiction, fantasy, horror, mysteries, westerns, classics, adventure stories, and much, much more!
