Book Synopsis Electrostatic Propulsion by : David Langmuir
Download or read book Electrostatic Propulsion written by David Langmuir and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrostatic Propulsion focuses on issues, trends, and developments in electrostatic propulsion. The compilation is composed of technical papers primarily based on the symposium of the American Rocket Society held at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California on November 3–4, 1960. The book presents an investigation of the performance of ion rockets employing electron-bombardment ion sources. It also underscores the value of duoplasmatron in ion propulsion. The compilation then looks at the development of a negative ion source. Calibration of mass spectrometer, description of ion source, and the theory of surface ionization are described. The book also discusses experiments on oscillating-electron plasma source; the theory of ion emission from porous media; and the effects of surface structure and adsorption on the ionization efficiency of a surface ionization source. The text also considers a number of experiments, including the space-charge theory for ion beams, circular beam neutralization, and transient and steady state behavior in cesium ion beams. The book is a good source of information for readers wanting to study electrostatic propulsion.
Book Synopsis Electron and Ion Optics by : Miklos Szilagyi
Download or read book Electron and Ion Optics written by Miklos Szilagyi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of electron and ion optics is based on the analogy between geometrical light optics and the motion of charged particles in electromagnetic fields. The spectacular development of the electron microscope clearly shows the possibilities of image formation by charged particles of wavelength much shorter than that of visible light. As new applications such as particle accelerators, cathode ray tubes, mass and energy spectrometers, microwave tubes, scanning-type analytical instruments, heavy beam technologies, etc. emerged, the scope of particle beam optics has been exten ded to the formation of fine probes. The goal is to concentrate as many particles as possible in as small a volume as possible. Fabrication of microcircuits is a good example of the growing importance of this field. The current trend is towards increased circuit complexity and pattern density. Because of the diffraction limitation of processes using optical photons and the technological difficulties connected with x-ray processes, charged particle beams are becoming popular. With them it is possible to write directly on a wafer under computer control, without using a mask. Focused ion beams offer especially great possibilities in the submicron region. Therefore, electron and ion beam technologies will most probably playa very important role in the next twenty years or so.
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Spacecraft Charging by : Shu T. Lai
Download or read book Fundamentals of Spacecraft Charging written by Shu T. Lai and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As commercial and military spacecraft become more important to the world's economy and defense, and as new scientific and exploratory missions are launched into space, the need for a single comprehensive resource on spacecraft charging becomes increasingly critical. Fundamentals of Spacecraft Charging is the first and only textbook to bring together all the necessary concepts and equations for a complete understanding of the subject. Written by one of the field's leading authorities, this essential reference enables readers to fully grasp the newest ideas and underlying physical mechanisms related to the electrostatic charging of spacecraft in the space environment. Assuming that readers may have little or no background in this area, this complete textbook covers all aspects of the field. The coverage is detailed and thorough, and topics range from secondary and backscattered electrons, spacecraft charging in Maxwellian plasmas, effective mitigation techniques, and potential wells and barriers to operational anomalies, meteors, and neutral gas release. Significant equations are derived from first principles, and abundant examples, exercises, figures, illustrations, and tables are furnished to facilitate comprehension. Fundamentals of Spacecraft Charging is the definitive reference on the physics of spacecraft charging and is suitable for advanced undergraduates, graduate-level students, and professional space researchers.

Book Synopsis Crossed-field Microwave Devices V3 by : G Mourier
Download or read book Crossed-field Microwave Devices V3 written by G Mourier and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossed-field Microwave Devices, Volume I: Principal Elements of Crossed-Field Devices focuses on the developments, trends, and approaches in the study of crossed-field microwave devices. The selection first offers information on periodic structures and cathode gun and its static characteristics. Discussions focus on circuits for traveling wave crossed-field tubes; effect of tolerance on interdigital lines; mode spectrum of strapped type magnetron; and electron gun optics and associated static characteristics of injection systems. The text then takes a look at noise and space-charge modes, including preoscillation phenomena in space-charge clouds below the main oscillation threshold; cutoff characteristics of the static magnetron diode; magnetron diode oscillations; and noise in crossed-field electron beams. The manuscript then examines the interaction of beams and circuits, as well as small and large signal theory and experiment. The selection is a valuable reference for readers interested in the elements of crossed-field microwave devices.
