Book excerpt: Ce mémoire présente les résultats d'une campagne d'échantillonnage des sous-produits de la désinfection (SPD) dans un système municipal d'eau potable. En plus des familles de SPD les plus connues (c.-à-d. les trihalométhanes (THM) et les acides halo-acétiques (AHA)), trois familles de SPD émergents (SPDE) sont également étudiées (les haloacétonitriles (HAN), les halonitrométhanes (HNM) et les halocétones (HK)). L'étude de ces cinq familles de SPD présente un grand intérêt puisque plusieurs de ces composés pourraient être cancérigènes. Lors des échantillonnages, les concentrations en SPD et certains paramètre physico-chimiques ont été mesurés à divers points de l'usine de traitement (UTE) et du réseau de distribution d'eau potable. Les résultats obtenus sont analysés d'un point spatial et d'un point de vue temporel afin d'identifier les facteurs déterminants de la variabilité des cinq familles de SPD étudiées. Les conclusions de cette analyse permettent d'identifier les points les plus critiques du système étudié et d'identifier des pistes de solution pour réduire les concentrations en SPD dans l'eau potable. Les résultats montrent, entre autres, que la majorité des SPD sont formés à l'intérieur de l'UTE et que, par conséquent, les interventions visant à limiter la formation de SPD devraient principalement cibler la chaîne de traitement et le réservoir de l'UTE.
