Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with a description of noise, decibels and levels, significance of spectra, and passive sonar equation. Subsequent chapters discuss sound waves in liquids; acoustic radiation fundamentals; wind-generated ocean ambient noise; vibration isolation and structural damping; and radiation by plate flexural vibrations. Book excerpt: Moreover, the evidence from sound symbolism's grammatical patterning, its performative foregrounding in multiple contexts of use, and its ability to trigger memories of key life experiences, suggests that for the Pastaza Quechua sound symbolism is more than a style of speaking. It is a style of thinking about oneself as connected, by the sounds that resonate through one's body, with the natural world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deepwater archaeology uncovers secrets from the ancient maritime past . . . Thousands of shipwrecks and archaeological sites lie undiscovered in deep water, potentially holding important clues to our maritime past. Scientists have explored only a small percentage of the oceans' depths, as 98 percent of the seabed lies well beyond the reach of conventional diving. Ships from the Depths surveys the dramatic advances in technology over the last few years that have made it possible for scientists to locate, study, and catalogue archaeological sites in waters previously inaccessible to humans. Researcher and explorer Fredrik Søreide presents the development of deepwater archaeology since 1971, when Willard Bascom designed his Alcoa Seaprobe to locate and raise deepwater wrecks in the Mediterranean. Accompanied by descriptions and color photographs of deepwater projects and equipment, this book considers not only techniques that have been developed for location and observation of sites but also removal and excavation methods distinctive to these unique locations, far beyond the reach of scuba gear. Søreide provides an introduction to and survey of the history, development, and potential of this exciting branch of nautical archaeology. Scholars and field archaeologists will appreciate this handy compendium of the current state of the discipline and technology, and general readers will relish this comprehensive look at the challenges and opportunities associated with locating and studying historical and ancient shipwrecks in some of the world’s deepest waters.

There are three distantly different stories with three distantly different juntas 1-Planet Black, this storyboard is about a high action & very high science fiction high drama, about a race of black warriors who come to earth after witnessing the genocidal & treatment atrocities on planet earth, as they attempt to correct what’s been a historical global effort to denigrate the black experience on planet earth. This screenplay is harvested upon presentence of real factual historical & scientific evidence, perceived science fiction & futuristic interpretations, along with this writer’s personal highlighted original theoretical scientific innovational concepts, and part (original story movie) screenplay novel; included within this screenplay, all complete movie scripts, dialogs & soundtrack forthwith. 2-Little Miss Pantomime short screenplay movie; exert; Included within this movie screenplay, all complete movie scripts, dialogs forthwith. This story is about very dark true life story about a little homeless girl living on the streets of a big city. The tale has many twists & turns of high drama, about street children & pedophilia, child prostitution & children being trafficked. 3-The third novel is named; The third novel (the Ghosts of Vegas) is another material that could very easily be converted into another movie. The Ghosts of Vegas; exert; The storyboard is a snapshot about the fate of so many street people, in Vegas & all over the world living in shantytowns, as it depicts the whys of a growing & concern, as so many homeless people who live on the streets.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the 119 species of marine mammals, as well as for some other aquatic animals, sound is the primary means of learning about the environment and of communicating, navigating, and foraging. The possibility that human-generated noise could harm marine mammals or significantly interfere with their normal activities is an issue of increasing concern. Noise and its potential impacts have been regulated since the passage of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. Public awareness of the issue escalated in 1990s when researchers began using high-intensity sound to measure ocean climate changes. More recently, the stranding of beaked whales in proximity to Navy sonar use has again put the issue in the spotlight. Ocean Noise and Marine Mammals reviews sources of noise in the ocean environment, what is known of the responses of marine mammals to acoustic disturbance, and what models exist for describing ocean noise and marine mammal responses. Recommendations are made for future data gathering efforts, studies of marine mammal behavior and physiology, and modeling efforts necessary to determine what the long- and short-term impacts of ocean noise on marine mammals.
