Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David has no greater wish than to explore the mountains behind his new home in North Carolina and as he does he finds a wonder never dreamed of, the Phoenix. The Phoenix introduces David to an endless list of his friends from mythology and in the process opens David's eyes to the wide world both the unseen world and seen world. In the unseen world David and the Phoenix share many adventures all the while a scientist is trying to capture the Phoenix to prove to the world that the bird is real. The phoenix takes David on "educational field trips" to meet sea monsters, fauns and other creatures. Plus they hatch a hysterical plot to scare off an over eager scientist from the phoenix's trail. David learns some valuable lessons about life, one is that nothing remains the same as one grows up. The other is... well perhaps you should read the book yourself and find your own lessons within the pages. A well written story, "David and the Phoenix" has no particular time setting so that it could very well be placed in current time. It brings back to me memories of times when life was much simpler, more pleasant and without the problems we as adults face. It's a story of childhood and the dreams that children of every age share and which we all to soon leave behind. Of course, there is the traditional fiery death of the phoenix in the story.

Most people would assume the answer is "yes" but the five siblings of this story find out that it is not that simple. The adventure begins with a new carpet that has a glowing egg inside it and when it falls into an open fire it hatches a golden phoenix, the most famous of all mythical birds. The phoenix tells them that the carpet is enchanted, and it has the ability to grant the children three wishes every day. With the arrogant but wise bird by their side they go on amazing journeys. But not everything is as it seems, and the siblings learn that you have to be careful what you wish for. For fans of Frances Hodgson Burnett and Jonathan Rogers. Born in Kennington in 1858, Edith Nesbit wrote and co-authored over 60 beloved adventures at the beginning of the 20th century. Among her most popular books are "The Story of the Treasure-Seekers" (1899), "The Phoenix and the Carpet" (1904), and "The Railway Children" (1906). Many of her works became adapted to musicals, movies, and TV shows. Along with her husband Hubert Bland, she was among the first members of the Fabian society - a socialist debating club. A path in London close to her home was named "Railway Children Walk" in her honor, manifesting her legacy as one of the pioneers within the children’s fantasy genre.

Book excerpt: "Riveting ..." —Byron Rupert McCafferty, Seattle Book Journal "I'm already looking forward to the next white-knuckle entry in this 12-book thriller series." —George "Harley" Davidson, Zoo in a Book This is a contemporary psychological thriller about dark obsessions, and the fathers who pass them to their sons. Rife with international glamour, romance and intrigue, the story captures four patriarchal families in a generational conflict where the pursuit of global power at any price makes them the unwitting pawns of a hidden psychotic mastermind. Here is a contest to the death between two men, both driven by obsessive love: one for a woman; one, for power. One man is scarred by fire; one, by insanity. From the banks of the Potomac River to the cliffs above the Baltic Sea, these men fight each other with such ferocity that one endangers the woman he adores, and the other betrays the country he has sworn to protect. Mirroring the tragedy of the murdered, the reader will struggle to discern the fine line between victim and predator. Shadow of the Phoenix is the first book in a series of twelve edge-of-the-seat novels called The Sons Of Jacob.
