Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Neurodiversity has helped me understand myself and provided a sense of relief that I'm a whole neurodivergent person functioning as my brain intends." "It's provided me with the language to advocate for myself." "I no longer hated myself. I no longer felt broken. I found a sense of community. A sense of belonging" This affirming and thoughtful guide outlines how and why we need to fundamentally shift our thinking about neurodivergent people. We need to accept differences rather than framing them as a problem, abnormality or disorder. Welcome to the neurodiversity paradigm. At times challenging and radical, Sonny Jane Wise explores the intersections of neurodivergence with disability, gender, sexuality and race. Through interviews, narratives, and the lens of their own raw experiences, they consider how current systems and structures that impact neurodivergent people are rooted in outdated capitalist and racist frameworks, and how these need to change and adapt to be neurodiversity affirming. Sonny Jane's words are a rallying cry to challenge the pathology paradigm. They offer nine principles for facilitating change, reflected in deeply personal stories from the neurodivergent community. Powerful and persuasive, this book is a clarion call for a kinder and more neurodiversity affirming society.

Book excerpt: Cruise Ship Murders tells the story of two retired couples, Sonny and Jane and Gene and Susan, who are taking their lifelong dream of a world cruise to all seven continents. They planned and dreamed about taking this trip for a very long time to see places they had only read about in books or seen on TV. They had hardly started their world cruise when they attend the captains welcome aboard cocktail party and have a big surprise: the captain turns out to be Sonny's best friend from childhood. The bigger surprise is, neither Sonny's wife nor his companions had ever heard of this friend. The next surprise is a passenger is murdered in her stateroom, and the captain asks Sonny and Gene, retired homicide detectives, to take charge of investigating the murder. The ship's security staff is hardly trained to handle a murder. The cruise takes them to all the places they had dreamed of seeing and gives the reader a glimpse of what it's like to visit: Uluru; the Great Barrier Reef; the Taj Mahal; Machu Picchu, and many other places. The murders don't stop. Sonny and Gene have never had a case with almost no clues. The only thing each of the murders has in common is an association with a man named Lucky Jordan. Lucky was a very good-looking man, very charming, and women were attracted to him. Was he the killer or was there something else about him that was causing their deaths.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academia is not, by and large, a kind place. Individualism and competition are what count. But without kindness at its core, Catherine Denial suggests, higher education fails students and instructors—and its mission—in critical ways. Part manifesto, part teaching memoir, part how-to guide, A Pedagogy of Kindness urges higher education to get aggressive about instituting kindness, which Denial distinguishes from niceness. Having suffered beneath the weight of just “getting along,” instructors need to shift every part of what they do to prioritizing care and compassion—for students as well as for themselves. A Pedagogy of Kindness articulates a fresh vision for teaching, one that focuses on ensuring justice, believing people, and believing in people. Offering evidence-based insights and drawing from her own rich experiences as a professor, Denial offers practical tips for reshaping syllabi, assessing student performance, and creating trust and belonging in the classroom. Her suggestions for concrete, scalable actions outline nothing less than a transformational discipline—one in which, together, we create bright new spaces, rooted in compassion, in which all engaged in teaching and learning might thrive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “… a clear, approachable guide to help readers untangle their relationship with money, understand the systems and inequities that impact them, and reclaim financial independence.”―Edgar Villanueva, bestselling author of Decolonizing Wealth An intersectional approach to personal finance from queer, neurodivergent personal finance educator and TikToker, Ellyce Fulmore. There’s no magic formula for being “good with money.” The perfect budgeting spreadsheet or debt repayment plan will never address the root of your money issues. When Ellyce Fulmore started her journey with personal finance, she was drowning in $35K of debt, had $60 to her name, and avoided looking at her bank account. Her own “aha” moment came when she realized that the reason she and so many others have struggled with finances has little to do with being “bad with money.” Instead, it has everything to do how identity and lived experience affect financial behaviors. Now in Keeping Finance Personal, Ellyce offers a shame-free, trauma-aware approach that explores the complex, nuanced, and deeply personal relationship between your identity and your money. With chapters exploring topics such as finding safe spaces, personal values, relationship dynamics, family systems, and culture, it’s clear this is not your typical finance book. Readers will engage with how their upbringing, sense of self, trauma, and mental health impact their decisions, and begin a journey to change their relationship with money. This book is for the woman facing sexism at her local bank, the neurodivergent person struggling with impulse spending, the young adult questioning societal expectations, the 2SLGBTQIA+ couple searching for a place to rent—all the people that don’t fit into the mold that traditional finance advice is aimed at. Filled with interviews from a diverse range of voices, practical exercises, and tangible tips, Keeping Finance Personal provides a path to develop a healthy money mindset and create a life where financial stability and joy coexist.
