I swallowed and tried hard to discern his expression in the dark. The paltry amount of light reaching this far into the small cavern glinted off his eyes, giving him the appearance of a demon trying to tempt me into doing something evil. “Yes,” I answered, my own voice a mere whisper, “I trust you.” “Good.” He gave my hand a quick squeeze, and then I was pulled forward into the icy abyss that loomed before us . . . A year ago, Meghan Elam learned that she was Faelorehn, a being of the Otherworld. Immortal. Now she must juggle her life in the mortal world with the one she has started to build in the Otherworld. However, keeping her identity secret from her friends and family while trying to avoid a wrathful Celtic goddess is no easy task. With the help of the intriguing Cade MacRoich, Meghan will learn that not only does she come from a place full of magic and wonder but that she, too, is far more powerful than she ever thought possible.

It starts and ends with the tree.’ Time is running out for the tree weavers of Syluria as an illness takes hold of the sacred Nymet tree. Their only hope seems to lie in a half-whispered legend of a flame-haired girl from beyond the Dreamtime. Charlotte Stone doesn’t feel much like a legend with her life falling apart around her. She is forced to swap her exciting, nomadic lifestyle for a sleepy East Anglian village but Brackenheath is not all it seems – and neither is the lonely old oak on the hill that has been haunting her dreams. Charlotte and the Weaver Tar’sel join forces with some unlikely allies in the form of a straight-laced fairy civil servant and a delinquent elf with a case of ‘brown thumbs’. Together they set out to save the Brackenheath oak and with it, an entire hidden world from destruction. Meanwhile, as the roots of the Nymet Tree begin to loosen their grip, an ancient evil awakens… and it’s closer to home than Charlotte realises. The Children of the Nymet is book one of ‘The Nymet Chronicles’, which follows the adventures of Charlotte Stone as she pieces together the puzzle of how the fates of her family and Syluria are irrevocably entwined. The Lord of the Rings meets Artemis Fowl and Lara Croft in Charlotte Stone and the Children of the Nymet, a new fantasy adventure story laced with old magic for the 12+ age group.

Book excerpt: "The Morrigan is Pagan Ireland's dark goddess. Her name is translated as "phantom queen" or "great queen." The Morrigan is a goddess of war and sexuality, witchcraft and death, protection and retribution. This goddess of justice is classified among the Sidhe-Ireland's fairies-but she may have a mermaid incarnation, as well. The Morrigan dates back at least to Ireland's Iron Age, but she is as modern as she is ancient. With the possible exception of the witch goddess Hekate, the Morrigan is currently the most popular Pagan goddess. This book provides a guide to this complex, mysterious goddess that encompasses practical veneration with modern devotionals, entwined with traditional lore and Irish-Celtic history"--

Cover art and illustrations are by Valerie Herron of Mystic Media. Production of the book has been crowd-funded through a very successful IndieGoGo campaign in 2014, nearly tripling the original goal."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, humans have pondered the question of their existence. In nearly every society, part of the answer has included some form of god or goddess. For the Mayans, one such deity was Ajtzak, who tried to create humans from wood; for the Yorubas of Africa, Shango controlled the thunder and lightning. The Chinese of the Shang dynasty era worshipped Shang Ti. Evil deities were also part of the answer, as in the case of the Kuvera, the Hindu chief of evil in the Vedic period, and Tu, the Persian or Islamic demon of fatal accidents. All of the known ancient gods, many heretofore obscure or known only from mythological literature, are included in this exhaustive reference work. The focus is on their origins, histories, and functions. The people who believed in each deity are identified, along with alternate names or spellings both old and modern. The descriptions that follow are of the functions, origins and physical nature of the deities. Extensive cross references are provided for alternate spellings and names.

But what would be the origin of all these stories that turned a war leader into a king, an emperor, a legend... even a god? What if Arthur was really a deity similar to Zeus and Odin, with his roots in the rich Celtic mythology of the British Isles? A study of Arthurian myths reveals Britain's most legendary king as an ancient Sun God, known by many different names in the myths of Wales and Ireland. Even his Knights of the Round Table, and his sister Morgan le Fay can all be identified as ancient Gods and Goddesses of earth, sea and sky. Their survival in Arthurian legend stands as a shining testament of a story far more ancient, but by no means lost to us...

Book excerpt: Draoideachta is the Gaelic word for magic in Ireland, a place of mystery, mists, and old gods, the Tuatha Dé Danann. Long ago, the magic practitioner Saint Patrick in a takeover bid banished the Tuatha and locked away all magic, but today his church is dying, hemorrhaging magic. In a comeback play, the old gods send forward in time a man cursed by the Morrigan. Padraic O’Duibh is the long-haired, woad-tattooed son of an Irish god and a human mother. Personally, he’d rather be in hell than champion for the cute-hoor Irish gods. Never take money from a fairy. Mealla O’Conner, a Métis by birthright, half Irish, and half Native American from Canada has a website, Trainingintotemism dot com that also does WICCA. As an entrepreneur not a believer, she now has to learn what she is and what she has to bring to the fight the hard way, while doing. At the sights of holy wells, portal tombs, dolmans, and fairy forts, the veil between worlds is tearing. Practitioner/priests are summoning the dead. With Cork City as collateral damage, a magical free-for-all-feck-a-thon on the mist-shrouded island has begun.

Book excerpt: Focusing on the mythological narratives that influence Irish children's literature, this book examines the connections between landscape, time and identity, positing that myth and the language of myth offer authors and readers the opportunity to engage with Ireland's culture and heritage. It explores the recurring patterns of Irish mythological narratives that influence literature produced for children in Ireland between the nineteenth and the twenty-first centuries. A selection of children's books published between 1892, when there was an escalation of the cultural pursuit of Irish independence and 2016, which marked the centenary of the Easter 1916 rebellion against English rule, are discussed with the aim of demonstrating the development of a pattern of retrieving, re-telling, remembering and re-imagining myths in Irish children's literature. In doing so, it examines the reciprocity that exists between imagination, memory, and childhood experiences in this body of work.
