Book Synopsis Synthesis and Technique in Inorganic Chemistry by : Gregory S. Girolami
Download or read book Synthesis and Technique in Inorganic Chemistry written by Gregory S. Girolami and published by University Science Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previously by Angelici, this laboratory manual for an upper-level undergraduate or graduate course in inorganic synthesis has for many years been the standard in the field. In this newly revised third edition, the manual has been extensively updated to reflect new developments in inorganic chemistry. Twenty-three experiments are divided into five sections: solid state chemistry, main group chemistry, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and bioinorganic chemistry. The included experiments are safe, have been thoroughly tested to ensure reproducibility, are illustrative of modern issues in inorganic chemistry, and are capable of being performed in one or two laboratory periods of three or four hours. Because facilities vary from school to school, the authors have included a broad range of experiments to help provide a meaningful course in almost any academic setting. Each clearly written & illustrated experiment begins with an introduction that hig! hlights the theme of the experiment, often including a discussion of a particular characterization method that will be used, followed by the experimental procedure, a set of problems, a listing of suggested Independent Studies, and literature references.

Book Synopsis Cycloaddition Reactions of Heterocumulenes by : Henri Ulrich
Download or read book Cycloaddition Reactions of Heterocumulenes written by Henri Ulrich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cycloaddition Reactions of Heterocumulenes reviews cycloaddition reactions, particularly on hetercocumulenes having "four-electron" bonds. This book discusses the chemical relationship among the various classes of heterocumulenes, including their chemical reactivity which ranges from highly reactive species to nearly inert compounds. This text also investigates the nucleophilic reactions of ketenes and isocyanates with suitable substrates, and if possible, correlates available data with the reactivity of these species in cycloaddition reactions. This book also investigates the cycloaddition reactions of carbon suboxide and other aspects of its chemistry due to the presence of many other interrelated reactions. The synthetic organic chemist should also investigate the application of isocyanate reactions associated with the cumulative double bonds. This text investigates carbodiimides as useful reagents for peptide synthesis, and notes that the stability of carbodiimides increases significantly with sterical hindrance around the cumulative double bond system. This book discusses three compounds that have a central electrophilic carbon atom, namely, carbon dioxide, carbonyl sulfide, and carbon disulfide. The book also describes the cycloaddition reactions of sulfenes, of N-sulfinylamines, of N-sulfinylsulfonamides, and of sulfurdiimides. This book can prove useful for researchers, technicians, and scientists whose works involve organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and other related fields of chemistry.

Book Synopsis Some Reactions of Tungsten (VI) Oxide and Molybdenum(VI) Oxide with Liquid Sulfur by : John W. Goodrum
Download or read book Some Reactions of Tungsten (VI) Oxide and Molybdenum(VI) Oxide with Liquid Sulfur written by John W. Goodrum and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In situ generation of species for crystal growth in solution is a relatively undeveloped, but promising technique for preparation of solid state material. In this work a solvent, liquid sulfur, generates species in solution by chemical reduction at high temperatures. Evaluation of this high temperature reduction agent included measurements of qualitative and kinetic parameters for the reactions molybdic oxide - sulfur and tungstic oxide - sulfur as a function of temperature, time, and atmosphere. Temperature effects on reduction rate over the range 125 to 400C were markedly non-linear. Reduction products isolated include Mo(IV) oxide at 250C; Mo(IV) sulfide at 400C; W(IV) sulfide at 400C. The oxidation product detected whenever reduced species were found was sulfur(IV) oxide. Additional evidence of species WO(x)S(y) and polymeric sulfur was found. Results of this study indicate that liquid sulfur can serve as a straightforward reducing agent at high temperatures. The rate or extent of such reduction is easily controlled by varying thermal conditions or duration of reaction, and the products of such reductions may be readily isolated by solution techniques which remove unreacted sulfur.

Book Synopsis Comprehensive Organic Functional Group Transformations by : Alan R. Katritzky
Download or read book Comprehensive Organic Functional Group Transformations written by Alan R. Katritzky and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-21 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vast range of different functional groups is potentially available from the attachment of three or four heteroatoms to carbon. Some of these are abundantly represented in the literature, others are rare, and many have yet to be described. The aim of this volume is to describe the synthesis of examples of known functional groups and to highlight those that are little known or unknown. All possible combinations of heteroatoms have been surveyed, with the exception of complexes in which carbon atoms are bonded only to transition elements. The material is organised in four parts: tetracoordinated carbon atoms bearing three attached heteroatoms are covered in Part 1, and those bearing four heteroatoms in Part II; the synthesis of tricoordinated carbon atoms with three attached heteroatoms is described in Part III; stabilized radicals and carbocations with three attached heteroatoms are covered briefly in Part IV.

Book Synopsis The Chemistry of Carbon by : A. K. Holliday
Download or read book The Chemistry of Carbon written by A. K. Holliday and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Carbon: Organometallic Chemistry is a specialist's selection of certain chapters in Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry comprising five volumes. This book contains corrections and added prefatory material and individual indices. This volume deals with carbon (Chapter 13) and describes organic chemistry of the metallic elements (Chapter 14). Carbon is unique in its ability to form strong chemical bonds with itself or other elements. Graphite and diamonds are some elementary forms of carbon. Chapter 14 discusses the basis for a qualitative, comparative description of the organic chemistry of metals and any inorganic chemistry found common in them. The book uses the covalent model in describing both bondings made in most organometallic compounds and inorganic derivatives. The text also discusses the atoms in molecules, particularly in a molecular ion, as having both ligands X and a central atom M. A table then shows the classification of some common ligands, grouping them according to the number of valence electrons that make up their bonding. The text then explains the general trends in the chemistry of the main group elements of the Periodic Table that contain ns and np orbitals in their valence shells. The book also discusses some atomic properties, their consequences, and the occurrence of unpaired electrons in organo transition metal complexes. This book will be valuable for students and professors dealing with general chemistry, gemologists, molecular scientists, and researchers.
