Book Synopsis Whitetail Savvy by : Leonard Lee Rue
Download or read book Whitetail Savvy written by Leonard Lee Rue and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wildlife author and photographer of more than thirty books (including The Encyclopedia of Deer, The Deer Hunter’s Illustrated Dictionary, and Whitetails), Leonard Lee Rue III provides the most comprehensive reference on whitetail deer ever published. This book will appeal to anyone remotely interested in whitetails and other deer: nature buffs, deer lovers, deer haters, gardeners, farmers, photographers, biologists, mammalogists, highway troopers, and––not least––deer hunters, who will find a wealth of material that will improve their understanding and appreciation of their quarry. In spite of the manuscript's astounding thoroughness, Rue keeps the text short and clear to allow room for hundreds of his extraordinary photos, illustrating virtually every aspect of whitetail behavior, physiology, and more. Outdoors author Neil Soderstrom “[has] never encountered a manuscript as interesting and comprehensive on whitetails or any other species. Most information in this book is entirely new….This is a very good read, its factual material gracefully presented and richly enlivened by [Rue’s] personal observations and good humor.” Even if your bookshelf is already full of titles about whitetails, this new addition has breaking research that is necessary for anyone interested in whitetail deer.

Book Synopsis Effects of Hunter Movement and Habitat Use on Observation Rate of White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginianus) by : Alyssa N. Meier
Download or read book Effects of Hunter Movement and Habitat Use on Observation Rate of White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginianus) written by Alyssa N. Meier and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunting by humans is the primary tool for population control for many ungulate species across the United States, including white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). Previous research has focused primarily on the effects of hunting on prey behavior while neglecting the potential effects hunter behavior has on the probability of harvest success. I examined the influence of hunter movement and habitat use across the landscape on observation rate of white-tailed deer. During the 2008 and 2009 Oklahoma hunting seasons, we recorded GPS and observation data of 83 individual hunters over 487 total hunts. Hunters that moved non-linearly through forested cover at a moderate pace had an increased probability of observing deer. Because deer have been shown to increase use of forested cover and decrease movement during the hunting season, hunters that overlapped habitat use and moved more regularly were more likely to observe deer. Possessing information on what hunter behaviors lead to greater harvest success in an area can be a powerful educational tool for agencies to recruit and retain new hunters, thereby maintaining hunting as a viable management option.
