Events are chronicled in a narrative rather than in a controversial form, and truth gleaned in a hundred sources has been condensed in order to make it a valuable work for the future and present generations. It is submitted to a generous and intelligent people in the belief that it will meet their approval. The labor of the author was shared by many residents of the township, indeed Wm. W. Wile has our sincerest thanks for his cheerful information we received and gleaned from his own lips. The labor was also shared by R. R. Hangey, Wm. S. Hemsing, H. K. Godshall, H. K. Hackman, R. R, Hartzel, I. C. Barndt and others. We finally extend our sincerest thanks for their co-operation and cheerful information. This little work was never intended to be published in book form at the beginning, but were hastily written to meet each week's publication of the Weekly News, and, therefore we do not claim for them any measures of literary merit. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania and else where.
