Download or read book Solute Diffusion in Liquid Metals written by B. N. Bhat and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gas model of diffusion in liquid metals is presented. In this model, ions of liquid metals are assumed to behave like the molecules in a dense gas. Diffusion coefficient of solute is discussed with reference to its mass, ionic size, and pair potential. The model is applied to the case of solute diffusion in liquid silver. An attempt has been made to predict diffusion coefficients of solutes with reasonable accuracy.

Book Synopsis A TEXTBOOK OF METALLURGICAL KINETICS by : AHINDRA GHOSH
Download or read book A TEXTBOOK OF METALLURGICAL KINETICS written by AHINDRA GHOSH and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical kinetics constitutes one of the basic subjects for Metallurgical Engineering. This well-written book presents the subject of kinetics of metallurgical processes in a compressive fashion. Organized into 14 chapters, the book begins with an introduction of the broad basic concepts. It then discusses the kinetics of homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions with some real-life examples from the metallurgical field. The book adequately covers the concepts of diffusion, convective mass transfer and mixing in fluids, as well as mass transfer in fluids adjacent to a solid surface. Several important processes in metallurgical and materials engineering involve reactions of porous solids with gases. The book discusses this with the help of two important reactions, namely, reduction of iron ores and gasification of carbon. It also deals with mass transfer among two fields and presents the kinetics of electrochemical reactions and phase transformation in a simple manner. The book also contains plenty of numerical worked-out examples and problems, some of which involve computer programs. The Appendix gives some important data useful for solving problems in kinetics. The book is designed for one-semester course for undergraduate students of metallurgical discipline.

Download or read book The Theory of Transformations in Metals and Alloys written by John Christian and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2002-12-10 with total page 1202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a classic reference text for metallurgists, material scientists and crystallographers. The first edition was published in 1965. The first part of that edition was revised and re-published in 1975 and again in 1981. The present two-part set represents the eagerly awaited full revision by the author of his seminal work, now published as Parts I and II. Professor Christian was one of the founding fathers of materials science and highly respected worldwide. The new edition of his book deserves a place on the bookshelf of every materials science and engineering department. Suitable thermal and mechanical treatments will produce extensive rearrangements of the atoms in metals and alloys, and corresponding marked variations in physical and chemical properties. This book describes how such changes in the atomic configuration are effected, and discusses the associated kinetic and crystallographic features. It deals with areas such as lattice geometry, point defects, dislocations, stacking faults, grain and interphase boundaries, solid solutions, diffusion, etc. The first part covers the general theory while the second part is concerned with descriptions of specific types of transformations.
