Book excerpt: After the birth of the Jewish nation, but before the brutal string of invading Pagan armies, there arose an Israel a king whose splendor was so rich, his very name is still spoken with awe: Solomon. Inheriting and expanding a magnificent kingdom from his father, King David, Solomon, attained both spiritual and material wealth, confounding his enemies and thrilling his own people. The Bible claims there will never be another like him. His legacy includes three canonical works that flowed from God to his pen - Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Strangely, these three books are rarely examined by modern scholars, but longtime author and defender of the faith, the late Henry Morris, provided an invaluable commentary. His examination of Solomon's life, and the insights into the writings themselves, give the Bible student a worthy tour through the life of a most remarkable man. 240 pages • 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 • Trade paper

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once upon a time there was a wise Israelite who spoke many parables and proverbs, and who rode into Jerusalem upon a mule and presented himself as king. That man was Solomon, son of David, who lived nearly a thousand years before Jesus. According to the Old Testament, King Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs. The Bible contains less than half of this material. Herein, you will find more of Solomon's proverbs and wise sayings, for centuries hidden from the general population. Should biblical scholars ever come together over a few stiff drinks, they just might agree that the contents of this book may be deemed tantamount to holy scripture. Until then, it is just an agglomeration of passages that sound dogmatic and may ostensibly be ascribed to one of the wisest figures in human history. Let the reader be forewarned: Wisdom does not appeal to everyone, and seldom is its delivery ingratiating. Although eloquent in any language, it can reveal the philistine heart that encumbers the soul of even the most virtuous seeker.

Book excerpt: We have all experienced a disconnect between God's promises to us and our everyday reality. We wait, without understanding why. We want to know God's plan so that we can trust it--but God so often hides his plan so that we will trust him. What can we do in the meantime as we are waiting for an answer, a change, or a miracle? With deep compassion, Wayne Stiles helps readers understand why God makes them wait. Unpacking the Old Testament story of Joseph, Stiles shows readers how to find comfort and opportunity in the time between God's promises and his answers, revealing the perspective-altering truth that sometimes when we think we are waiting on God, he is actually waiting on us. Anyone who has felt a disconnect between God's promises and their reality, who doesn't know what God wants them to do next, or who struggles with the brokenness of their world will find in Wayne Stiles a wise and trustworthy guide to finding peace in the pauses.

Book excerpt: The Words of Solomon is an in depth study of the first nine chapters of Solomons Proverbs, as recorded by the Old King James Bible. These are the chapters which provide a continuous narrative that is told from the perspective of a Hebrew father instructing his son to pursue Wisdom through obedience to Gods law. The remaining chapters of Proverbs go on to address a wider array of random godly principals and their practical application to human life on earth. In an effort to better understand these ancient teachings, the father/son relationship between Solomon and David is first examined, and found to be lacking. Like many fathers of today, King David was a very complex and busy man, but he was also the only man described by God as a man after my own heart. The Proverbs show us that Solomon had devoured his fathers own writings, the psalms, and incorporated them into an easier understood text, which was then chronologically arranged as a manual for a functional father/son relationship. It should be no surprise that Israels wisest king wrote a literary masterpiece capable of being interpreted on multiple levels of understanding. Solomons hidden nuggets of precious wisdom, written three thousand years ago, are brought to the surface to transcend the boundaries of time, for a twenty-first century application. Reading this book will convince all of Wisdoms students that mining Solomons gold is a very worthy pursuit.

Book excerpt: We live in a visual culture. Today, people increasingly rely upon visuals to help them understand new and difficult concepts. The rise and stunning popularity of the Internet infographic has given us a new way in which to convey data, concepts and ideas. But the visual portrayal of truth is not a novel idea. Indeed, God himself used visuals to teach truth to his people. The tabernacle of the Old Testament was a visual representation of man's distance from God and God's condescension to his people. Each part of the tabernacle was meant to display something of man's treason against God and God's kind response. Likewise, the sacraments of the New Testament are visual representations of man's sin and God's response. Even the cross was both reality and a visual demonstration. As teachers and lovers of sound theology, Challies and Byers have a deep desire to convey the concepts and principles of systematic theology in a fresh, beautiful and informative way. In this book, they have made the deepest truths of the Bible accessible in a way that can be seen and understood by a visual generation.

Book excerpt: Paul Solomon (1939-1994) was one of the most inspired and illuminating teachers of life's sacred mysteries. He was a scholar of comparative religion, sacred scriptures and the Qabalah, plus arcane wisdom and ancient mystery traditions. He was a leader in the field of altered states of consciousness, and many people called him "the modern-day Edgar Cayce." Paul was uniquely skilled in making complex concepts understandable and applicable, while still allowing for deep understanding. Through his lectures and channeled readings, he made universal laws and esoteric doctrines practical to daily life for people around the world. Through lectures, workshops and residential programs, Paul sought to bring together people of diverse nationalities, races and religions under one roof, believing that perfect love, beginning with oneself, is humankind's only appropriate response to the world's challenges. His primary focus was the establishment of a worldwide family - plus the empowerment of individuals toward their full potential, enhanced through an intimate and interactive relationship with the source of their being. Until his death in 1994, he continued to share the message that each of us can choose love over fear every moment of the day, thus making the choice to live in heaven on earth, on both a personal and global level. The Wisdom of Solomon is a collection of Paul's teachings on spirituality and religion, mysticism and occultism, prayer and meditation, reincarnation, channeling, dreams and the mind-body connection. Paul's vast knowledge base, combined with his gift for simplifying issues and spelling out practical steps toward transformation, make The Wisdom of Solomon unique.

Book Synopsis The Testament of Solomon by : King Solomon

Download or read book The Testament of Solomon written by King Solomon and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-15 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the Testament of Solomon is a complete and accurate reprint of the original translation of ancient manuscripts by F.C. Conybeare first printed in 1898. It contains all Conybeare's original notes and commentary, including the Greek characters he footnoted for the reader's consideration. Beware of other editions of this work that do not contain all the original text. The Testament of Solomon is a pseudepigraphical work attributed to King Solomon the Wise of the Old Testament. Written in the first-person narrative, the book tells the story of the creation of the magical ring of King Solomon and how Solomon's ring was used to bind and control demons, including Beelzebub. In this book of King Solomon, the discourses between the King and the various spirits are told, and the story shows how Solomon uses his wisdom to withstand the demons' tricks and guile and enlist their aid in the building of his temple. The spells and seals of Solomon used by the King to bind the spirits are detailed, which makes this work a book of Solomon's magic, similar in nature to the Lesser Key of Solomon the King and the Greater Key of Solomon the King, which both are King Solomon books of magic and contain various talismans of Solomon, including the secret seal of Solomon. The manuscripts from which this work was discovered date from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. All were written in Greek. This dating makes most experts believe that the work is medieval. But some scholars, including D.C. Duling, argue that it is likely that the work comes from the 5th or 6th centuries. The various manuscripts used to source the work all date to medieval times, but the text itself, as well as references to other works, indicate the Testament is much older. For example, in the Dialogue of Timothy and Aquila, there is a direct reference to the Testament of Solomon. The Dialogue purports to have been written during the Archbishopric of Cyril in 444 C.E., and therefore, its reference would date the Testament before that time. Similarly, in the early 4th century Gnostic text On the Origin of the World, references to the book of Solomon and his 49 demons are made. No matter the date, the text provides an immensely interesting description of how King Solomon tamed various demons to build his temple. The text includes predictions of the coming of Christ, as one demon explains to Solomon that while he may be bound, the only thing that can truly take his power away is the man born from a virgin who will be crucified by the Jews.
