Download or read book Seismic soil structure interaction of navigation locks written by Maltidis, Georgios and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work handles the seismic soil- and water structure interaction of navigation locks in the field of elastodynamics. The investigation is based on numerical analysis with the finite element method. The findings extend the results of available theories and studies and allow for a more precise analysis and design of such structures. Suggestions about the numerical analysis of such problems are also presented. The results can be used also for quay and retaining walls.
Book Synopsis Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization by : Cornelius T. Leondes
Download or read book Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization written by Cornelius T. Leondes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-02 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finite element, an approximation method for solving differential equations of mathematical physics, is a highly effective technique in the analysis and design, or synthesis, of structural dynamic systems. Starting from the system differential equations and its boundary conditions, what is referred to as a weak form of the problem (elaborated in the text) is developed in a variational sense. This variational statement is used to define elemental properties that may be written as matrices and vectors as well as to identify primary and secondary boundaries and all possible boundary conditions. Specific equilibrium problems are also solved. This book clearly reveals the effectiveness and great significance of the finite element method available and the essential role it will play in the future as further development occurs.

This book was released on 2009-05-12 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, dedicated to Professor Dimitri Beskos, contains contributions from leading researchers in Europe, the USA, Japan and elsewhere, and addresses the needs of the computational mechanics research community in terms of timely information on boundary integral equation-based methods and techniques applied to a variety of fields. The contributors are well-known scientists, who also happen to be friends, collaborators as past students of Dimitri Beskos. Dimitri is one the BEM pioneers who started his career at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, USA, in the 1970s and is now with the University of Patras in Patras, Greece. The book is essentially a collection of both original and review articles on contemporary Boundary Element Methods (BEM) as well as on the newer Mesh Reduction Methods (MRM), covering a variety of research topics. Close to forty contributions compose an over-500 page volume that is rich in detail and wide in terms of breadth of coverage of the subject of integral equation formulations and solutions in both solid and fluid mechanics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The JUT AMlIACM Symposium on Discretization Methods in Structural Mechanics was nd th held in Vienna, Austria, from 2 to 6 June 1997. The site of the Symposium was the "Theatersaal" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The Symposium was attended by 71 persons from 23 countries. In addition, several Austrian graduate students and research associates participated in the meeting. In the 5-day Symposium a total of 48 papers were presented. All of them were invited and accorded equal weight in the programme. The following topics were covered: • Error-controlled adaptivity of finite element methods • Large deformations and buckling, including inelastic deformations • Inelastic brittle or ductile localization, phase transition and system failure, resulting from monotonic, cyclic or impact loading • Sensitivity analysis and inverse problems with special emphasis on identification of material parameters • Development of linear and nonlinear finite element methods for thin-walled structures and composites • Implicit integration schemes for nonlinear dynamics • Coupling of rigid and deformable structures; fluid-structures and acoustic-structure interaction • Competitive numerical methods (finite element methods, boundary element methods, coupling ofthese two methods) • Identification of material and structural data. Comments on details of the treatment of these topics are contained in the Concluding Remarks. The Editors would like to express their appreciation to E. Stein who has prepared these Concluding Remarks.

Book Synopsis Advanced Computational Methods and Geomechanics by : Shenghong Chen
Download or read book Advanced Computational Methods and Geomechanics written by Shenghong Chen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is intended, through parallel expounding, to help readers comprehensively grasp the intrinsic features of typical advanced computational methods. These methods are created in recent three decades for the understanding of the post-failure of geo-materials accompanied with discontinuous and finite deformation/dislocation, as well as the violent fluid-structure interaction accompanied with strong distortion of water surface. The strong points and weak points of the formalisms for governing equations, the discretization schemes, the nodal interpolation /approximation of field variables, and their connectivity (via support domains, covers, or enrichments), the basic algorithms, etc., are clarified. Being aware of that the differences in these methods are not so large as at the first glance, this book will help readers to select appropriate methods, to improve the methods for their specific purpose, and to evaluate the reliability/applicability of the outcomes in the hazard evaluation of geotechnical (hydraulic) structures beyond extreme work situation. This book may be looked at as an advanced continuation of “Computational Geomechanics and Hydraulic Structures” by the author (2018) (Springer-Verlag, ISBN 978-981-10-8134-7) which elaborates the fundamental computational methods in geomechanics for the routine design of geotechnical (hydraulic) engineering.

Book Synopsis Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods XLIV by : A. H.-D. Cheng
Download or read book Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods XLIV written by A. H.-D. Cheng and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The maturity of BEM over the last few decades has resulted in a substantial number of industrial applications of the method; this demonstrates its accuracy, robustness and ease of use. The range of applications still needs to be widened, taking into account the potentialities of the Mesh Reduction techniques in general. Theoretical developments and new formulations have been reported over the last few decades, helping to expand the range of boundary elements and other mesh reduction methods (BEM/MRM) applications as well as the type of modelled materials in response to the requirements of contemporary industrial and professional environments. As design, analysis and manufacture become more integrated, the chances are that software users will be less aware of the capabilities of the analytical techniques that are at the core of the process. This reinforces the need to retain expertise in certain specialised areas of numerical methods, such as BEM/MRM, to ensure that all new tools perform satisfactorily within the aforementioned integrated process. The papers included were presented at the 44th International Conference on Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods and report advances in techniques that reduce or eliminate the type of meshes associated with finite elements or finite differences.
