Book Synopsis Soils and Geomorphology by : Peter W. Birkeland
Download or read book Soils and Geomorphology written by Peter W. Birkeland and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1999 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soils and Geomorphology, now in its third edition, remains popular among soil scientists, geomorphologists, geologists, geographers, and archaeologists. While retaining the useful "factors of soil formation format," it has been extensively revised, incorporating a considerable amount of new research and offering a greater number of topics and examples -- particularly in the chapters "Weathering and Soil Development with Time" and "Topography: Soil Relations with Time in Different Climatic Settings." Greater emphasis is placed on the role of dust in pedogenesis, and new data are included on tropical soil development, global soil-loess relations, neotectonics, and reduction processes. The text discusses field applications such as the use of soils in recognizing climate change, estimating the age of geological deposits, and dealing with environmental problems such as acid rain. New "how-to" appendices on soil descriptions and calculating the profile development index are also included. Soils and Geomorphology is an ideal text for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in courses on pedology, soil science, Quaternary geology, archeology, and sedimentary petrology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil geomorphology is the accurate assessment of the genetic relationship of soils and landforms, which is possible only if their interdependence is recognized. This book provides an integration of geomorphology and pedology. Students and scientists in many disciplines should find this book highly relevant to their interests.

Book Synopsis Digital Soil Morphometrics by : Alfred E. Hartemink
Download or read book Digital Soil Morphometrics written by Alfred E. Hartemink and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about digital soil morphometrics which is defined as the application of tools and techniques for measuring, mapping and quantifying soil profile properties, and deriving depth functions of soil properties. The book is structured along four research topics: (i) Soil profile properties, (ii) Soil profile imaging, (iii) Soil depth functions, and (iv) Use and applications. The pedon is at the heart of digital soil morphometrics. The use of digital soil morphometrics exceeds the pedology and soil classification purpose that it currently serves – it is used in rapid soil assessment that are needed in a range of biophysical studies. Digital soil morphometrics has the potential to enhance our understanding of soils and how we view them. The book presents highlights from The IUSS Inaugural Global Workshop on Digital Soil Morphometrics held in June 2015 in Madison, USA.

Book Synopsis The Canadian System of Soil Classification by : Canadian Agricultural Services Coordinating Committee. Soil Classification Working Group
Download or read book The Canadian System of Soil Classification written by Canadian Agricultural Services Coordinating Committee. Soil Classification Working Group and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatise begins with an introduction on the history of soil classification in Canada and discussion of the rationale for soil taxonomy. It then defines such terms as soil, pedon, and soil horizons before outlining the classification system along with identification keys. Chapters 4 through 13 describe the characteristics of the various soil orders and include information on distinguishing soils of one order from soils of other orders. Chapter 14 outlines criteria & guidelines used in differentiating classes in soil families and soil series categories. Chapter 15 provides information on distinguishing soil phases. Chapter 16 correlates Canadian soil taxonomy with other classification systems. Chapter 17 summarizes the main terminology used to describe soils at the landscape and pedon scales. The final chapter provides a system of landform classification for soil mapping.

Book Synopsis The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle by : Jai Krishna
Download or read book The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle written by Jai Krishna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-11 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews and summarizes the Indian Mesozoic geological evolution in an innovative alternative perspective of sequence stratigraphy. It mainly focuses on the Jurassic interval, but also concisely discusses the preceding Triassic and Cretaceous geological records. The key to the study is primarily held in the recently developed ammonoid based high resolution scales in the Triassic and Jurassic period. The Indian Jurassic record is thus elevated to a high resolution pedestal. The large intra-Jurassic stratigraphic gap in Kachchh, with increase in duration from margin to basin, has been précised in different sections, along with radical revision of its long held interpretation from sub-aerial to sub-marine all over from Arabia to Australia. Other significant gaps are also differentiated into sub-aerial and sub-marine. The Indian Late Precambrian – Neogene record is organized into five mega-sequences. Among these, the fourth – also the most important one – includes the intra-Permian to Early Eocene interval from the origin to the closure of the Neotethys. Based on multidisciplinary integration of the Indian Mesozoic geological record and comparison with hydrocarbon producing basins on east and west of India, a highly positive scenario of the hydrocarbon source/reservoir sediment perspective is outlined in the book in sequence stratigraphic backdrop as an edifice for future elaborate evaluation.
