Können die Internetbekanntschaften etwa zum Ersatz für real eventuell nicht existierende Freundschaften werden? Wodurch kommt es zu dem rasanten Anstieg der „Social Networks“ und wie verändert sich die Sozialstruktur unserer Gesellschaft durch den massenhaften Gebrauch der modernen Kommunikationsmedien? Mit diesen Fragen möchten ich mich in meiner Hausarbeit beschäftigen und das zugrunde liegende soziale Phänomen aus Sicht der analytischen Soziologie entschlüsseln.

Besonders zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt erregen groß angelegte Facebook-Aktionen die Aufmerksamkeit der Öffentlichkeit. Ob das Nutzen der Seite als öffentliche Plattform zur Mobilmachung gegen Menschenrechtsverletzungen („Kony2012“) oder den Protesten von Tierschützern gegen die anstehende Europameisterschaft 2012 in der Ukraine und Polen – verschiedene Interessengruppen versuchen mithilfe des sozialen Netzwerkes im Internet, gesellschaftliche und politische Veränderungen herbeizuführen. Diese Arbeit ist phänomenologisch aufgebaut und beginnt mit dem Beispiel einer Facebook-Gruppe (Kapitel 2), die sich mit dem Ziel gegründet hat, Widerstand gegen die Guerilla-Organisation FARC zu leisten. Im dritten Kapitel wird die zentrale Fragestellung dieser Arbeit erörtert und die These aufgestellt, dass Facebook einen öffentlichen Raum darstellt, in dem Politik stattfindet. Der Hauptteil der vorliegenden Arbeit gliedert sich in drei große Themenblöcke: Soziale Netzwerke, Facebook und Macht. Im Themenblock der sozialen Netzwerke (Kapitel 4) wird zunächst eine Definition von sozialen Netzwerken gegeben, bei der auch auf das „Small World“-Phänomen sowie die Stärke schwacher Bindungen und das durch Netzwerkarbeit entstehende Sozialkapital behandelt wird. Im Folgenden wird näher auf die virtuellen Communities sowie auf Social Network Sites eingegangen. Der nächste große Themenblock ist Facebook gewidmet (Kapitel 5), wobei zunächst auf Daten und Fakten eingegangen wird und darauffolgend die Nutzerstruktur sowie die Funktionen dargestellt werden. Abschließend stellt das Kapitel Facebook und Macht (Kapitel 5.3) eine Überleitung zum letzten großen Themenblock der Macht dar (Kapitel 6). Das sechste Kapitel nähert sich zunächst dem amorphen Begriff der Macht. Darauf aufbauend werden die zwei Sichtweisen von Macht beschrieben, nämlich power to und power over, woran sich im folgenden Punkt der Begriff des Empowerment anschließt. Die anthropologischen Grundlagen der Macht nach Popitz sind Thema des nächsten Kapitels. Nachfolgend wird die Organisationsmacht dargestellt. Arendts Begriff der Macht ist der letzte Teil dieses Themenkomplexes. Das siebte Kapitel bildet eine Zusammenfassung der genannten Theorien in Bezug auf das eingangs beschriebene Beispiel der Facebook-Gruppe. Das abschließende Kapitel 8 beschäftigt sich mit den Erkenntnissen und möglichen Folgen für die Soziale Arbeit.
