Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of an increasing interest in radiation embrittlement for aging nuclear reactors, scientists gathered in New Orleans in January 1997 to consider the interests and capabilities of the scientific-testing community and of the commercial light-water-cooled power-reactor industry in terms of improving methods to characterize component integrity. The resulting 37 papers concentrate on the use of unique small and miniature specimens; nondestructive, nonintrusive, and in- situ test techniques for measuring mechanical and fracture properties; the application of tests to irradiation-induced embrittlement; and actual examples of tests to determine material integrity and to evaluate potential component life extension. They consider experimental, analytical, and computational aspects. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Download or read book High Temperature Miniature Specimen Test Methods written by Wei Sun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-10-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Temperature Miniature Specimen Test Methods, for the first time in book format, focuses on a comprehensive and thorough introduction to a range of high temperature, miniaturized test methods at elevated temperatures which are used to obtain “bulk creep or fatigue properties from a small volume of material. Complicated mathematics and modelling are not involved. It is intended to be of use to a wide range of audience of engineers (e.g. designers, manufacturers, metallurgists, stress analysts), researchers (e.g. materials scientists) and students (undergraduate and postgraduate) in the field of high-temperature material and structural integrity assessment. Specific novel features of the book include 1] theoretical basis of each test method; 2], data interpretation method of each test method; and 3] specific application of each test method. Provides the theoretical basis of each test method Includes the data interpretation method of each test method Presents specific applications and the limitations of each test method, along with opportunities for future developments

Book Synopsis Comprehensive Materials Processing by :
Download or read book Comprehensive Materials Processing written by and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2014-04-07 with total page 5485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive Materials Processing, Thirteen Volume Set provides students and professionals with a one-stop resource consolidating and enhancing the literature of the materials processing and manufacturing universe. It provides authoritative analysis of all processes, technologies, and techniques for converting industrial materials from a raw state into finished parts or products. Assisting scientists and engineers in the selection, design, and use of materials, whether in the lab or in industry, it matches the adaptive complexity of emergent materials and processing technologies. Extensive traditional article-level academic discussion of core theories and applications is supplemented by applied case studies and advanced multimedia features. Coverage encompasses the general categories of solidification, powder, deposition, and deformation processing, and includes discussion on plant and tool design, analysis and characterization of processing techniques, high-temperatures studies, and the influence of process scale on component characteristics and behavior. Authored and reviewed by world-class academic and industrial specialists in each subject field Practical tools such as integrated case studies, user-defined process schemata, and multimedia modeling and functionality Maximizes research efficiency by collating the most important and established information in one place with integrated applets linking to relevant outside sources

This book was released on 1992 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miniature sheet-type tensile specimens are currently being used in a variety of radiation damage studies conducted in a number of different reactors. Although these specimens are very small, they have proven successful in addressing issues encountered in both thermal reactors and anticipated fusion reactors. This paper reviews the results of a number of recent studies that illustrate the range of applicability of these small specimens. When combined with other types of specimens and other types of measurements made prior to tensile testing, miniature tensile specimens have been found to serve as very useful tools for application to both fundamental studies and alloy screening studies.
Book Synopsis Small Specimen Test Techniques for Estimating the Tensile Property Degradation of Mod 9Cr-1Mo Steel on Thermal Aging by : V. Karthik
Download or read book Small Specimen Test Techniques for Estimating the Tensile Property Degradation of Mod 9Cr-1Mo Steel on Thermal Aging written by V. Karthik and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The degradation in mechanical properties of modified (mod) 9Cr-1Mo steel on thermal aging at 923 K has been studied using the small specimen test techniques?shear-punch and ball-indentation tests. Small volumes of material required for these test techniques make them unique tools for the assessment of service related degradation and failure analysis of structural components. A variety of heat treated microstructural conditions of mod 9Cr-1Mo steel is generated on which both conventional tensile test and shear-punch/ball-indentation tests are carried out. The relationship between conventional tensile properties and small specimen test results is established from these standardization experiments. Small specimens of Mod 9Cr-1Mo steel in the thermally aged conditions are tested using both shear punch and ball-indentation techniques and the tensile property changes are determined. Both these tests identically reflect and quantify the changes in the tensile properties with aging time which correlates well with the microstructural changes observed using optical and electron microscopic studies.
