Book Synopsis Lexical and Semantic Aspects of Proverbs by : Čermák, František
Download or read book Lexical and Semantic Aspects of Proverbs written by Čermák, František and published by Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2019-09-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of paremiology is traditionally an interdisciplinary one starting with folklore, paremiology, language, literature, history, and other fields, their mutual influence being a peculiar and highly valued feature for all. This book is linguistic in nature, offering a number of aspects of contemporary languages and their proverbs studied, though mostly on lexical, semantic and pragmatic aspects, based on language corpora findings, subsequently leading to proverb minima. Apart from selected proverb data excerpted from tens of languages, there is an effort to arrive at a system of proverbs having a wider orientation based on the goal set to map proverbs in a language in a systematic and reliable way, showing proverbs and their use in large, multimilion language corpora. Next to its academic goals covering proverb theory of use and system, the book may be used by lexicocographers, monolingual and comparative, and language teachers in their textbook compilation.
Book Synopsis Dictionary of the Prague School of Linguistics by : Josef Vachek
Download or read book Dictionary of the Prague School of Linguistics written by Josef Vachek and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2003-06-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first English version of a text out of print for more than 40 years, summarising the positions and key concepts of an influential stream of linguistic thought. Using quotations as entries, J. Vachek (1909-1997), a leading advocate of the Prague School, employed more than 160 sources, papers and monographs, by well over 30 representatives of the school (Mathesius, Trnka, Skalička, Daneš, Dokulil, Mukařovský, Jakobson, Trubetzkoy, Isachenko, and others). The dictionary both captures the pioneering efforts and achievements of the school from its foundation in 1926, and provides a framework for assessing the current state of affairs, attesting to its originality and serving as a preventive to treading paths already explored. The headword concepts are provided with French, German and Czech equivalents and Vachek's original preface is supplemented by a foreword which traces the development of the school up to the present date and puts it into perspective.
Download or read book Language Periphery written by and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A full-length study of monocollocable words, i.e. words whose usage is severely restricted to one or a few combinations only (such as English ado in without much/further ado), that brings together corpus-based data from the four languages along with studies analysing, along both general and language-specific lines, monocollocable words in terms of their frequency, lexical as well as morphosyntactic behaviour, and various facets of their peripheral status. Each of the four langauges covered, namely, English, Italian, German and Czech also offers a short introduction of the respective languages written in English, Italian, German and Czech. A rare contribution to our knowledge of an as yet little studied field, the book will attract the attention of, and stimulate a new interest in, all who are ready to acknowledge that collocation is a core phenomenon of language – lexicologists, lexicographers with a focus on phraseology, language typologists, linguists with a contrastive and historical agenda, and language teachers alike.
Book Synopsis Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography by : Rufus Gouws
Download or read book Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography written by Rufus Gouws and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 1596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basis for this additional volume are the three volumes of the handbooks Dictionaries. An International Encyclopedia of Lexicography (HSK 5.1–5.3), published between 1989 and 1991. An updating has been perceived as an important desideratum for a considerable time. In the present Supplementary Volume the premises and subjects of HSK 5.1–5.3 are complemented by new articles that take account of the practice-internal and theoretical developments of the last 15 years. Special attention has been given to the following topics: the status and function of lexicographic reference works, the history of lexicography, the theory of lexicography, lexicographic processes, lexicographic training and lexicographic institutions, new metalexicographic methods, electronic and, especially, computer-assisted lexicography.
Book Synopsis Computational Phraseology by : Gloria Corpas Pastor
Download or read book Computational Phraseology written by Gloria Corpas Pastor and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you wish to deliver on a promise, take a walk down memory lane or even on the wild side, phraseological units (also often referred to as phrasemes or multiword expressions) are present in most communicative situations and in all world’s languages. Phraseology, the study of phraseological units, has therefore become a rare unifying theme across linguistic theories. In recent years, an increasing number of studies have been concerned with the computational treatment of multiword expressions: these pertain among others to their automatic identification, extraction or translation, and to the role they play in various Natural Language Processing applications. Computational Phraseology is a comparatively new field where better understanding and more advances are urgently needed. This book aims to address this pressing need, by bringing together contributions focusing on different perspectives of this promising interdisciplinary field.

Book Synopsis Multiword expressions in lexical resources by : Voula Giouli
Download or read book Multiword expressions in lexical resources written by Voula Giouli and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2024-06-17 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains chapters that paint the current landscape of the multiword expressions (MWE) representation in lexical resources, in view of their robust identification and computational processing. Both large-size general lexica and smaller MWE-centred ones are included, with special focus on the representation decisions and mechanisms that facilitate their usage in Natural Language Processing tasks. The presentations go beyond the morpho-syntactic description of MWEs, into their semantics. One challenge in representing MWEs in lexical resources is ensuring that the variability along with extra features required by the different types of MWEs can be captured efficiently. In this respect, recommendations for representing MWEs in mono- and multilingual computational lexicons have been proposed; these focus mainly on the syntactic and semantic properties of support verbs and noun compounds and their proper encoding thereof.
