Book Synopsis Whole Slide Imaging by : Anil V. Parwani
Download or read book Whole Slide Imaging written by Anil V. Parwani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-29 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides up-to-date and practical knowledge in all aspects of whole slide imaging (WSI) by experts in the field. This includes a historical perspective on the evolution of this technology, technical aspects of making a great whole slide image, the various applications of whole slide imaging and future applications using WSI for computer-aided diagnosis The goal is to provide practical knowledge and address knowledge gaps in this emerging field. This book is unique because it addresses an emerging area in pathology for which currently there is only limited information about the practical aspects of deploying this technology. For example, there are no established selection criteria for choosing new scanners and a knowledge base with the key information. The authors of the various chapters have years of real-world experience in selecting and implementing WSI solutions in various aspects of pathology practice. This text also discusses practical tips and pearls to address the selection of a WSI vendor, technology details, implementing this technology and provide an overview of its everyday uses in all areas of pathology. Chapters include important information on how to integrate digital slides with laboratory information system and how to streamline the “digital workflow” with the intent of saving time, saving money, reducing errors, improving efficiency and accuracy, and ultimately benefiting patient outcomes. Whole Slide Imaging: Current Applications and Future Directions is designed to present a comprehensive and state-of the-art approach to WSI within the broad area of digital pathology. It aims to give the readers a look at WSI with a deeper lens and also envision the future of pathology imaging as it pertains to WSI and associated digital innovations.

Book Synopsis Slide Interpretation in Oral Diseases by : Crispian Scully
Download or read book Slide Interpretation in Oral Diseases written by Crispian Scully and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lesions affecting the face and mouth are of great diagnostic value providing important information to the clinician. In addition to the oral diseases which have oral symptoms, many systemic diseases have oral manifestations, and the patient may turn to either the dental or medicalpractitioner. Many examinations, including the BDS and postgraduate qualifications in medicine and dentistry (MRCP, contain a section on slide interpretation to measure the student's ability to manage clinical problems in an examination format. This book contains over 100 slide interpretationquestions, divided into two sections. The first section covers lesions by location and the second, lesions by presentation. This book is ideal for students to test their knowledge of oral diseases and the oral manifestations of systemic disease. The questions are graded into three levels ofdifficulty and there are answers and accompanying explanatory notes at the end of each chapter. In full colour, the pictures range from the common to the more exotic, to test the basic level of knowledge required and to help revision, and to expand the student's awareness and encourage self-directedlearning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of precision medicine, physicians are increasingly in need of more definitive diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information derived from small biopsy specimens such as cytology samples in order to guide effective patient care. Cytopathology is well poised to meet this challenge. Whilst the traditional cytomorphologic component of cytology practice is still valid, enormous advances have been made in the field of cytopathology thanks to transformative technology and innovative individuals that have augmented the cytologists' ability to meet the demands of modern medicine. The purpose of this book is to describe, illustrate, and review many of the most recent developments regarding modern techniques employed in cytopathology. This latest monograph is intended for all cytologists including cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, cytology lab assistants, trainees, research scientists, and anyone who is interested in the field of cytopathology. We have invited pioneering experts in their respective fields to author these chapters. This book is not only the culmination of their groundbreaking work and effort but also presents a critical review of the current literature. We have attempted to provide readers with an informative and comprehensive aid so that they may better appreciate how emerging technology has been applied to cytology. Each chapter in this book presents a stand-alone contemporary review of emerging topics in cytopathology. We hope that you will find this monograph thought-provoking and a valuable reference for your practice.

Book Synopsis Cognitive Processes in the Interpretation of Microscope Slides in Histology by : Julia H. Chariker
Download or read book Cognitive Processes in the Interpretation of Microscope Slides in Histology written by Julia H. Chariker and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a naturalistic study of the cognitive processes involved in microscope slide interpretation in histology, a complex visual domain. Histology is the microanatomy of biological tissue and is a fundamental course in biology and medicine. This investigation demonstrated that identification of histological structures in a microscope is an extremely challenging task. Individual differences among the participants are large. In addition, identification of histological structures in a microscope is remarkable for the degree to which it forces integration between the use of visual knowledge, anatomical knowledge, and reasoning. Visual knowledge comes in the form of holistic recognition of patterns and the analytical understanding of the structure of tissue on slides. Anatomical knowledge comes in the form of an analytical understanding of the composition and the taxonomic organization of tissues. Expert performance includes a close mapping between visual and anatomical knowledge. When recognition of the slide is not complete, reasoning is used to combine visual and anatomical knowledge in an effort to work toward identification. Effective skill in reasoning is one of the primary tools of the developing histologist.
