Book excerpt: Sleeping under the Tree of Life evokes the realm of ancestral knowledge with a deep respect for the natural world, a love of language, and an invitation--for survival, and asks: Who survives without being transformed? Beneath luminous layers of imagery and mythology, science and nature, fantasy and the recounting of history, is the grace and tenderness of a poet's heart, the unwavering gaze of an oracle's vision, and the dreamlike whimsy of a storyteller's mind. Hope, love, and hard truths spring from these pages of a writer whose imagination conjures an unforgettable journey. Readers enter these poems and stories the way some souls enter church, a quiet garden, or a stand of trees--for rest, for the blessing of silence and reverie, for beauty if not redemption.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who wrote the Gospel of John? The author identifies himself only as "the disciple whom Jesus loved," and Christian tradition tells us that this disciple was the apostle John. However, during the past century, scholars have increasingly come to doubt that attribution. In 1902, Rudolf Steiner wrote that the author of the Gospel of John was in fact Lazarus. Steiner's position stemmed from his insight that Lazarus's encounter with death involved far more than people realized --an initiation into higher spiritual realities that uniquely qualified him to write this gospel. Edward Smith takes up this argument and shows that subsequent research has tended to favor Lazarus for reasons grounded in John's Gospel itself. More important, Smith shows that subsequent discoveries at Nag Hammadi and Mar Saba corroborate Steiner's reasoning about the nature of the raising of Lazarus, pointing to Lazarus as "the rich young ruler" of Mark's Gospel.

Book excerpt: Home at the Tree of Life is a groundbreaking book that sheds light on the mysteries of consciousness, life and death, and the underlying causes of many physical and mental conditions. It presents four people's extraordinary journeys of self-discovery and healing from severe disorders (depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, insomnia) attained without prescription medication. Dr. Gabor's pioneering techniques for exploring the subconscious and superconscious levels of the mind helped her clients open new and unexpected doors into the fascinating realms of past lives and the afterlife, and to gain access to the universe where all souls are originated from (referred to as Home in this book) and to the Source of Life. In this book you will find answers to questions such as: Who are we? Why don't we remember where we came from? What is our purpose on Earth? What are diseases and how can we heal ourselves? Why is there suffering on Earth? What happens during sleep? Where do we go after the physical death, what does that universe look like and what do we do there? What is the difference between soul and spirit? Who are Spiritual Guides and what is their purpose? Who or what is The Source or God and how can we access God? Where does the increased number of souls come from? What is the future of our planet? "This is a brilliant book. Not only is it a therapeutic work that is infinitely helpful in showing you how to heal and remove significant life obstacles, but it is also a book of cosmic wisdom, the proportions of which give you answers to the most important issues of human existence." -Marilyn Gordon, B.C.Ht and author of Realize your Greatness "Dr. Gabor's book is one of the most honest books on healing, reincarnation and the afterlife." -Theodoros Kousouli, D.C., C.Ht. "This enlightening book is an inspiration to all who seek eternal truth and purpose. If you enjoyed the books written by psychiatrist Brian Weiss, M.D. and psychologist Michael Newton, Ph.D. you will love this book!" -John Sanders, Psy.D.t, C.Ht.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parables from the Tree of Life depicts to us how nature often shows us the way. The story (somewhat autobiographical) follows a little girl growing up to become a young woman, learning spiritual lessons from reflections of the trees and with direction of her spiritual guide within. The book constitutes a narrative between the girl and the tree of life as she encounters the many trials and tribulations and occasionally triumphs in life, growing up in a large family in a culturally diverse setting. The 'tree of life' is the English name for arborvitae. The trees cover the Door County Wisconsin shoreline for many miles. They are not indigenous to North America, but were brought to us by sailors who made tea from their leaves to prevent scurvy. Thus they were truly named 'tree of life'. The story starts with the young girl growing up in central Illinois with frequent visits to North eastern Wisconsin. With a unique photograph of the adaptation of trees with each chapter coupled with the wisdom of the spirit, this book presents an inspirational and encouraging portrayal of contending with the many vicissitudes of life. The book is especially directed to those who live with depression and other forms of chronic pain, bravely keeping a smile on their faces and battling on with honest questioning and attempted integrity in life's situations. These stories show the girl encountering a number of religions and peoples, all the while striving to find a true course. Scars, and breaks and various anomalies of tree growth are viewed through the eyes of the spirit as positive and educational, though rarely easily acquired. This little book can help people on their life journey just as this little girl found her way from a young child into womanhood,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An African Tree of Life demonstrates how mission involves not only a "bringing-to" a people, but a "discovering-of" those deep symbols in human culture and God's creation that, in the light of the gospel, draw humanity to Christ. This book, in a scholarly yet intriguing way, explores the stories and rituals of the Gbaya people of the Cameroon and the Central African Republic. These deep symbols are typically centered not in the esoteric or exotic but in the familiar and everyday. Christensen focuses on the especial importance of the peace-bringing tree of life--the sore tree--central to the lives and worship of the Gbaya. "Gbaya Christians," says Christensen, "offer to North American Christians fresh and hope-filled images, rich metaphors, new and yet familiar to us." Thus, An African Tree of Life is an important book not only for theologians, missiologists, and Africanists but for all those concerned with issues of contextualization and seeking life-giving symbols in the quest to communicate the gospel message.

Book excerpt: Charlotte lives with her grandfather in a house with a secret: The Tower Room. It is the one room in which she’s been forbidden to snoop. Charlotte, however, is eleven years old and has a mind of her own, and when she and her friend Henry hide beneath the table of the Tower Room one afternoon in May, they overhear part of a conversation they were not meant to hear and are drawn into an adventure they could scarcely have imagined. Thrown back in time sixty years, they find themselves unwittingly involved in the imminent disappearance of a family heirloom with a colourful and uncertain past. But families too have their secrets, and the reasons behind them are rarely straightforward, and it is unclear what role Charlotte and Henry are meant to play if they are ever to return to their own time. A fascinating portrait of Toronto in the spring of 1939, The Tree of Life explores the nature of family, loss, and what it means to find one’s place in the world.

That the terms "fish" and "invertebrates" do not indicate scientific groupings? All this is the result of major changes in classification. This book diagrams the tree of life according to the most recent methods of this system.
