Book Synopsis A Century of Mathematical Meetings by : Bettye Anne Case
Download or read book A Century of Mathematical Meetings written by Bettye Anne Case and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This features contributions by and about some of the luminaries of American mathematics. Included here are essays based on presentations made during the symposium Celebration of 100 Years of Annual Meetings, held at the AMS meeting in Cincinnati in 1994. The papers in this collection form a vibrant collage of mathematical personalities. This book weaves a tapestry of mathematical life in the United States, with emphasis on the past seventy years. Photographs, old and recent, further decorate that tapestry. There are many stories to be told about the making of mathematics and the personalities of those who meet to share it. This collection offers a celebration in words and pictures of a century of American mathematical life.
Book Synopsis Algorithmic and Quantitative Real Algebraic Geometry by : Saugata Basu
Download or read book Algorithmic and Quantitative Real Algebraic Geometry written by Saugata Basu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithmic and quantitative aspects in real algebraic geometry are becoming increasingly important areas of research because of their roles in other areas of mathematics and computer science. The papers in this volume collectively span several different areas of current research. The articles are based on talks given at the DIMACS Workshop on ``Algorithmic and Quantitative Aspects of Real Algebraic Geometry''. Topics include deciding basic algebraic properties of real semi-algebraic sets, application of quantitative results in real algebraic geometry towards investigating the computational complexity of various problems, algorithmic and quantitative questions in real enumerative geometry, new approaches towards solving decision problems in semi-algebraic geometry, as well as computing algebraic certificates, and applications of real algebraic geometry to concrete problems arising in robotics and computer graphics. The book is intended for researchers interested in computational methods in algebra.

Book Synopsis Complex Analysis Joensuu 1987 by : Ilpo Laine
Download or read book Complex Analysis Joensuu 1987 written by Ilpo Laine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume are for the most part research articles related mainly to the theory of quasiconformal and quasiregular mappings, Riemann surfaces and potential theory. They have resulted from talks delivered at the 13th Nevanlinna Colloquium, which was also a celebration of the 80th birthday of Lars V. Ahlfors: hence many articles in this volume reflect his mathematical interests.
Book Synopsis Emerging Applications of Number Theory by : Dennis A. Hejhal
Download or read book Emerging Applications of Number Theory written by Dennis A. Hejhal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people tend to view number theory as the very paradigm of pure mathematics. With the advent of computers, however, number theory has been finding an increasing number of applications in practical settings, such as in cryptography, random number generation, coding theory, and even concert hall acoustics. Yet other applications are still emerging - providing number theorists with some major new areas of opportunity. The 1996 IMA summer program on Emerging Applications of Number Theory was aimed at stimulating further work with some of these newest (and most attractive) applications. Concentration was on number theory's recent links with: (a) wave phenomena in quantum mechanics (more specifically, quantum chaos); and (b) graph theory (especially expander graphs and related spectral theory). This volume contains the contributed papers from that meeting and will be of interest to anyone intrigued by novel applications of modern number-theoretical techniques.

Book Synopsis Conformal Geometry and Quasiregular Mappings by : Matti Vuorinen
Download or read book Conformal Geometry and Quasiregular Mappings written by Matti Vuorinen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the theory of spatial quasiregular mappings intended for the uninitiated reader. At the same time the book also addresses specialists in classical analysis and, in particular, geometric function theory. The text leads the reader to the frontier of current research and covers some most recent developments in the subject, previously scatterd through the literature. A major role in this monograph is played by certain conformal invariants which are solutions of extremal problems related to extremal lengths of curve families. These invariants are then applied to prove sharp distortion theorems for quasiregular mappings. One of these extremal problems of conformal geometry generalizes a classical two-dimensional problem of O. Teichmüller. The novel feature of the exposition is the way in which conformal invariants are applied and the sharp results obtained should be of considerable interest even in the two-dimensional particular case. This book combines the features of a textbook and of a research monograph: it is the first introduction to the subject available in English, contains nearly a hundred exercises, a survey of the subject as well as an extensive bibliography and, finally, a list of open problems.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Quasiconformal Mappings, Riemann Surfaces, and Teichmuller Spaces, held in honor of Clifford J. Earle, from October 2-3, 2010, in Syracuse, New York. This volume includes a wide range of papers on Teichmuller theory and related areas. It provides a broad survey of the present state of research and the applications of quasiconformal mappings, Riemann surfaces, complex dynamical systems, Teichmuller theory, and geometric function theory. The papers in this volume reflect the directions of research in different aspects of these fields and also give the reader an idea of how Teichmuller theory intersects with other areas of mathematics.
