This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Six Years a Priest and a Decade a Protestant It is impossible for a really Protestant mind not to feel a respect for those religious catholics who retain the title only from the accidents of birth and education, and not from ill-feeling toward the evangelical church, or on account of any sin or error of their own. There are a number of these to be found, both in Europe and America, in the present day; and, for my part, I entertain an esteem and regard for them, and should be happy to have it in my power, under any circumstances, to enlighten and console them. Since I have been lecturing on Romanism many Roman Catholics called upon me, either in person or by letter, asking for advice. I attended to their Spiritual wishes and shall most cheerfully comply with them hereafter. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis From Celibate Catholic Priest to Married Protestant Minister by : Stephen Joseph Fichter
Download or read book From Celibate Catholic Priest to Married Protestant Minister written by Stephen Joseph Fichter and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Celibate Catholic Priest to Married Protestant Minister: Shepherding in Greener Pastures describes a previously unstudied population of celibate Catholic priests who left the priesthood and eventually became married Protestant ministers. Stephen Fichter alternates from narrative to descriptive as he follows the lives of three of his study participants before, during, and after their dual transition. The descriptive sections include a history of religiously motivated celibacy and a review of the four leading forerunners in the field of Catholic clergy research. This scholarly study is the first time that these transitional clerics have candidly explained their difficult journeys of discernment. Religion, love, loss, and commitment are all analyzed in the context of this unique group of men, and the profiles in this book are memorable not only for the richness of their content, but also—and maybe most importantly—for their humanity. Lessons can be drawn for all people, especially those who have ever suffered a mid-life crisis.

Book Synopsis Religious Transformation in Maya Guatemala by : John P. Hawkins
Download or read book Religious Transformation in Maya Guatemala written by John P. Hawkins and published by University of New Mexico Press. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mayas, and indeed all Guatemalans, are currently experiencing the collapse of their way of life. This collapse is disrupting ideologies, symbols, life practices, and social structures that have undergirded their society for almost five hundred years, and it is causing rapid and massive religious transformation among the K’iche’ Maya living in highland western Guatemala. Many Maya are converting to Christian Pentecostal faiths in which adherents and leaders become bodily agitated during worship. Drawing on over fifty years of research and data collected by field-school students, Hawkins argues that two factors—cultural collapse and systematic social and economic exclusion—explain the recent religious transformation of Maya Guatemala and the style and emotional intensity through which that transformation is expressed. Guatemala serves as a window on religious change around the world, and Hawkins examines the rapid pentecostalization of Christianity not only within Guatemala but also throughout the global South. The “pentecostal wail,” as he describes it, is ultimately an acknowledgment of the angst and insecurity of contemporary Maya.
