Download or read book Sincerely, Me Volume 1 written by Matthew Garcia and published by Matthew Garcia. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remember on the playground of your elementary school when someone would yell out, “Reeeeedo!” Or how in Hollywood multiple takes of the same scene are shot in order to select the best one? And now you can also snap endless pictures of yourself before you post the perfect #Selfie you want everyone to “like.” Life however, is not lived in this way. Oftentimes soon after a mistake is made or an experience is lived, we feel we could have done things differently or better. We wish for a redo. But what if you could go back? What if you could take the knowledge you have now and share it with yourself at a younger age? Would you have done things the same? Matthew Garcia, (IAmMatthewGarcia.com) founder and owner of Respect The Art Media (RespectTheArt.com), set out on a quest to collect a series of letters written by one generation to the next generation. Writing to younger versions of themselves, the authors share insights from their life experiences conveyed in a way that the younger versions of themselves would have actually listened. This book is a chance for the current and next generation to read their stories and learn from their trials and victories. - See more at: http://www.sincerelymethebook.com

Anyway, as an apology, God lets me draw five Cards of Fate that are supposed to grant me superpowers in my next life. My first four draws are amazing—stuff like magic and an infinite inventory. But everything changes with the fifth card: a “curse” that turns me into whatever killed me. I thought I was gonna end up a truck, but now I’m an apple! Luckily, I’ve made a friend who can teach me how to move around. I also end up saving a wannabe adventurer who just might be willing to take me along for the ride. Time for this overpowered apple to get rollin’!
Book Synopsis Mary Elizabeth Barber: Growing Wild by : Alan Cohen
Download or read book Mary Elizabeth Barber: Growing Wild written by Alan Cohen and published by BASLER AFRIKA BIBLIOGRAPHIEN. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Elizabeth Barber (1818–1899), born in Britain, arrived in the Cape Colony in 1820 where she spent the rest of her life as a rolling stone, as she lived in and near Grahamstown, the diamond and gold fields, Pietermaritzburg, Malvern near Durban and on various farms in the eastern part of the Cape Colony. She has been perceived as ‘the most advanced woman of her time’, yet her legacy has attracted relatively little attention. She was the first woman ornithologist in South Africa, one of the first who propagated Darwin’s theory of evolution, an early archaeologist, keen botanist and interested lepidopterist. In her scientific writing, she propagated a new gender order; positioned herself as a feminist avant la lettre without relying on difference models and at the same time made use of genuinely racist argumentation. This is the first publication of her edited scientific correspondence. The letters – transcribed by Alan Cohen, who has written a number of biographical articles on Barber and her brothers – are primarily addressed to the entomologist Roland Trimen, the curator of the South African Museum in Cape Town. Today, the letters are housed at the Royal Entomological Society in St Albans. This book also includes a critical introduction by historian Tanja Hammel who has published a number of articles and published a monograph (2019) on Mary Elizabeth Barber.

Book Synopsis The Life and Letters of William Sharp and "Fiona Macleod". Volume 1: 1855-1894 by : William F. Halloran
Download or read book The Life and Letters of William Sharp and "Fiona Macleod". Volume 1: 1855-1894 written by William F. Halloran and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Sharp (1855-1905) conducted one of the most audacious literary deceptions of his or any time. Sharp was a Scottish poet, novelist, biographer and editor who in 1893 began to write critically and commercially successful books under the name Fiona Macleod. This was far more than just a pseudonym: he corresponded as Macleod, enlisting his sister to provide the handwriting and address, and for more than a decade "Fiona Macleod" duped not only the general public but such literary luminaries as William Butler Yeats and, in America, E. C. Stedman. Sharp wrote "I feel another self within me now more than ever; it is as if I were possessed by a spirit who must speak out". This three-volume collection brings together Sharp’s own correspondence – a fascinating trove in its own right, by a Victorian man of letters who was on intimate terms with writers including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Walter Pater, and George Meredith – and the Fiona Macleod letters, which bring to life Sharp’s intriguing "second self". With an introduction and detailed notes by William F. Halloran, this richly rewarding collection offers a wonderful insight into the literary landscape of the time, while also investigating a strange and underappreciated phenomenon of late-nineteenth-century English literature. It is essential for scholars of the period, and it is an illuminating read for anyone interested in authorship and identity.

Book excerpt: Enter the dark, magical world of the House of Night series by bestselling authors P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. One minute, sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is a normal teenager dealing with everyday high school stress: her cute boyfriend Heath, the school's star quarterback who suddenly seems more interested in partying than playing ball; her nosy frenemy Kayla, who's way too concerned with how things are going with Heath; her uber-tough geometry test tomorrow. The next, she's Marked as a fledgling vampyre, forcing her to leave her ordinary life behind and join the House of Night, a boarding school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. That is, if she makes it through the Change—and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint with Heath, who just doesn't know how to take "no" for an answer. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: when she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
