Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simulation model of integrated voice and data is developed. The data packets are transmitted during voice inactivity (i.e. silence duration). A statistical model of voice (talkspurt) and silence duration is generated. inter-arrival time between data packets is modeled using geometrical distribution. The data traffic statistics is simulated for a given voice activity model and various data packet arrival rates. Four important results are obtained by performing this simulation: 1. Average data packet delay versus arrival rate. 2. The optimal ratio of data packet arrival rate to average data packet delay. 3. Probability of wait time for various data packet arrival rates. 4. Probability of zero waiting time versus arrival rate. These results can be utilized to optimaUy select the data traffic intensity. Several plots have been generated to provide more insight of the voice and data integration.

Book excerpt: Annotation Voice/Data Integration on Cisco Networks is both a conceptual reference and a practical how-to book that bridges the gap between existing telephony networks and the new world of packetized voice over data networks. Technologies are explained in a context that gives the reader a holistic understanding of voice/data integration. Reader can then follow a complete process to design and implement a variety of network scenarios, leveraging the author's experience with real voice/data networks. The audio accompaniment on CD-ROM will be an excellent companion to demonstrate the expected voice quality using different voice/data networking scenarios. This will allow professionals in the field to demonstrate different sound quality levels to customers.

Book excerpt: The primary question to be addressed in this thesis is, What is the best switching approach, with or without voice and data integration, that will maximize mission essential needs of DOD communications? This question can be answered by modeling integrated voice and data networks and separate voice and data networks. Included in this modeling will be the analysis of different switching techniques to determine the best switching approach. Mathematical analysis results are used to verify a simulation model. This simulation model is used to analyze different possibilities of meeting DOD requirements. These DOD requirements and performance criteria for switching are defined and presented in Chapter II. Specific conditions are set to insure performance changes are based on the switching techniques, and the percentages of voice and data in a system. The approach taken in this research was to use analytical techniques and to develop a simulation model for analyzing different voice and data integrated and nonintegrated environments.

Book excerpt: This book describes, analyzes, and recommends traffic engineering (TE) and quality of service (QoS) optimization methods for integrated voice/data dynamic routing networks. These functions control a network's response to traffic demands and other stimuli, such as link failures or node failures. TE and QoS optimization is concerned with measurement, modeling, characterization, and control of network traffic, and the application of techniques to achieve specific performance objectives. The scope of the analysis and recommendations include dimensioning, call/flow and connection routing, QoS resource management, routing table management, dynamic transport routing, and operational requirements. Case studies are included which provide the reader with a concrete way into the technical details and highlight why and how to use the techniques described in the book. Includes Case Studies of MPLS and GMPLS Network Optimization Presents state-of-the-art traffic engineering and quality of service optimization methods and illustrates the tradeoffs between the various methods discussed Contains practical Case Studies based on large-scale service provider implementations and architecture plans Written by a highly respected and well known active expert in traffic engineering and quality of service

Book excerpt: This report gives the results of preliminary background investigations into the problem of voice/data integration in mobile radio networks. The nature of these networks creates a totally new environment, in which the problems of voice/data integration have scarcely been addressed. We review the basics of the voice/data integration problem, and we discuss some of the approaches that have been developed in recent years. Few accurate models are available for optimization and control, and these have generally been limited to operation at a single network node. The problem of overall network operation and control is extremely complicated, even when issues related to mobile radio network operation are not addressed. We outline our future research plans for this basic research task, which will stress the development of accurate analytical models for performance evaluation and control. Optimization models will be developed by using techniques such as Markovian decision process models. An important goal of this study is the development of a framework for overall network modeling. Toward this goal we plan to develop new network models based on the use of discrete event dynamic systems techniques. (rrh).

Book excerpt: Abstract: "Integrating voice and data service on the same network is gaining more and more attention. The voice and data traffics have different characteristics. An efficient channel access protocol is crucial in effectively utilizing the channel. In this paper, we propose an improved integration scheme over the FASNET protocol which is based on the unidirectional twin bus architecture. The protocol is robust and reliable. As shown by the simulation results, the scheme can deliver higher channel utilization and shorter packet delay than the origional FASNET protocol."

Book excerpt: In recent years, scientific research and translation medicine have placed increased emphasis on computational methodology and data curation across many disciplines, both to advance underlying science and to instantiate precision-medicine protocols in the lab and in clinical practice. The nexus of concerns related to oncology, cardiology, and virology (SARS-CoV-2) presents a fortuitous context within which to examine the theory and practice of biomedical data curation. Innovative Data Integration and Conceptual Space Modeling for COVID, Cancer, and Cardiac Care argues that a well-rounded approach to data modeling should optimally embrace multiple perspectives inasmuch as data-modeling is neither a purely formal nor a purely conceptual discipline, but rather a hybrid of both. On the one hand, data models are designed for use by computer software components, and are, consequently, constrained by the mechanistic demands of software environments; data modeling strategies must accept the formal rigors imposed by unambiguous data-sharing and query-evaluation logic. In particular, data models are not well-suited for software-level deployment if such models do not translate seamlessly to clear strategies for querying data and ensuring data integrity as information is moved across multiple points. On the other hand, data modeling is, likewise, constrained by human conceptual tendencies, because the information which is managed by databases and data networks is ultimately intended to be visualized/utilized by humans as the end-user. Thus, at the intersection of both formal and humanistic methodology, data modeling takes on elements of both logico-mathematical frameworks (e.g., type systems and graph theory) and conceptual/philosophical paradigms (e.g., linguistics and cognitive science). The authors embrace this two-sided aspect of data models by seeking non-reductionistic points of convergence between formal and humanistic/conceptual viewpoints, and by leveraging biomedical contexts (viz., COVID, Cancer, and Cardiac Care) so as to provide motivating examples and case-studies in this volume. Provides an analysis of how conceptual spaces and related cognitive linguistic approaches can inspire programming and query-processing models Outlines the vital role that data modeling/curation has played in significant medical breakthroughs Presents readers with an overview of how information-management approaches intersect with precision medicine, providing case studies of data-modeling in concrete scientific practice Explores applications of image analysis and computer vision in the context of precision medicine Examines the role of technology in scientific publishing, replication studies, and dataset curation
