A noi interessa questo: ascoltare il Padre Nostro, cercando di avvicinarci ai termini che Cristo può aver utilizzato, per comprenderlo meglio, per percepirne meglio le ricchezze nascoste, non per esporne o svilupparne gli insegnamenti e senza aggiungervi nulla o rivoluzionare il pensiero o l'insegnamento della Chiesa. Perché c'è un fatto sorprendente: i Padri della Chiesa ed i teologi, pur non conoscendo l'ebraico e pur non avendo in molti casi una formazione filologica molto approfondita, erano guidati da una fede assai ferma e lucida, la quale li preservava da molti errori e li teneva in generale sulla buona strada. Così, la filologia più moderna giunge spesso a posizioni adottate d'istinto dagli autori antichi, cui apporta unicamente la garanzia di nuove prove e l'accuratezza di metodi più scientifici. Il nostro, in definitiva, è un ritorno alle origini, per apprezzare l'originalità del Padre Nostro e la veridicità del suo insegnamento attraverso la dottrina della Chiesa.

The treatise on the Resurrection of the Dead, the first complete exposition of the doctrine in Christian literature, was written later than the Apology, to which it may be considered as an appendix.
