These are just some of the questions addressed in The Wisdom of Tantra. Based on the teachings of Shrii Shrii Anandamurti, a guru and philosopher who is considered one of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth century, The Wisdom of Tantra begins with the origins of Tantra and yoga and proceeds to unravel the mysteries of cosmology, the nature of the mind, the eight limbs of yoga, chakras, dharma, and reincarnation, as well as explaining how spirituality can provide solutions to the most pressing social, economic, and political challenges of our times. The Wisdom of Tantra is a clear and concise summary of the key concepts of Tantra yoga. Many of my students have used this book as their introduction to the philosophical foundations of their yoga practice. Bruce Viveka McEwen, PhD. The author has very ably reconstructed the history and metaphysics of the system after rummaging through relevant literature, both in print and manuscript form. The krama philosophy, Sakta esotricism and the Tantric synoptic view are seen. In this first of the two volumes, the author has given a general and historical survey in seven chapters-Karma as a distinct system, mutual exchange from allied system, different traditions and sub-schools, sources and literature and karma`s place in Kashmir Saivism. Contains chronological table of Karma author`s classified Bibliography and indexes.

Book excerpt: The movement known as Hindu Resurgence, Hindu Awakening or Hindu Renaissance has become increasingly noticeable, and there is a distinct effort to liberate Hinduism from the definitions andlimitations imposed by the domination of hostile outsiders. However, confusion and lack of proper information are still serious obstacles on the path of proper understanding and realisation. India, or as it was called in ancient times, Bharata Varsha, has an immense potential that can be materialised simply by returning to the correctoriginal perspective of the golden Vedic civilisation that is the natural heritage of all Indians and in fact of all human beings. The Rig Veda samhita (9.63.5) points us in the correct direction: Krinvanto visvam aryam, "Let everyone become arya"

Book excerpt: Contemporary debates on “mansplaining” foreground the authority enjoyed by male speech, and highlight the way it projects listening as the responsibility of the dominated, and speech as the privilege of the dominant. What mansplaining denies systematically is the right of women to speak and be heard as much as men. This book excavates numerous instances of the authority of female speech from Indian goddess traditions and relates them to the contemporary gender debates, especially to the issues of mansplaining and womansplaining. These traditions present a paradigm of female speech that compels its male audience to reframe the configurations of “masculinity.” This tradition of authoritative female speech forms a continuum, even though there are many points of disjuncture as well as conjuncture between the Vedic, Upanishadic, puranic, and tantric figurations of the Goddess as an authoritative speaker. The book underlines the Goddess’s role as the spiritual mentor of her devotee, exemplified in the Devi Gitas, and re-situates the female gurus in Hinduism within the traditions that find in Devi’s speech ultimate spiritual authority. Moreover, it explores whether the figure of Devi as Womansplainer can encourage a more dialogic structure of gender relations in today’s world where female voices are still often undervalued.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychology, for the author, is a developing science which is considered to be a part of philosophy. Traditionally philosophy has included the branches of ontology, metaphysics, ethics and epistemology, but Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii has expanded the scope of philosophy to include psychology and spiritual practices. In fact, this is one of the features which makes Ananda Marga spiritual philosophy unique.Regarding the scope of philosophy and psychology, in "Our Philosophical Treatise" (Tattva Kaomudii Part 2, 1969), the author writes: In Western philosophy there is no mention of spiritual practice, because Western philosophers had no opportunity to learn such a practice. The main reason is that, in the theology prevalent in the West, there is no concrete spiritual practice.According to general belief, psychology is a part of general science, and should therefore not be included as a part of philosophy. Thus psychology has been accepted as a branch of science in the West. But in Ananda Marga, psychology has been included as a part of philosophy. Moreover, according to Ananda Marga, the scope of psychology is wider than what is usually accepted by psychologists.Yoga psychology, though a part of philosophy, is also a science, but is not restricted to the materialistic paradigm which characterizes Western philosophy and psychology. It is the science by which spiritual aspirants can acquire knowledge and mastery of themselves in their quest for Self-realization. Knowledge of yoga psychology is essential for spiritual practices; without this knowledge, aspirants will not achieve success in their spiritual endeavours.

Book excerpt: A collection of fascinating essays which which attempt to find a synthesis between science, sociology and spirituality; East and West; materialism and mysticism. Using the ideas of the twentieth century polymath and mystic P. R. Sarkar as a base, the author weaves together the best of the scientific and mystical traditions, and searches for a point upon which they can meet and enrich each other instead of collide, thus also enriching our shared human experience. Comparisons are made with thinkers such as Thomas Kuhn ('The Structure of Scientific Revolutions'), Maturana, Verela, Sheldrake and Ken Wilber, among others. The essays discuss the idea of a paradigm shift within science, which will lead us beyond the materialist paradigm; the possible synthesis between Tantric metaphysics with modern physics and psychology; the layers and functions of mind and consciousness, with tantric and yogic practices being considered and a science of intuition and expansion of mind; and the idea of 'science with heart' which, without abandoning the scientific method, can incorporate the fact that we are not only physical entities, but also emotional and spiritual ones, seeking purpose and meaning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understand the life and teachings of Osho, one of the twentieth century’s most unusual gurus and philosophers, in Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic. In 1990, Osho prepared for his departure from the body that had served him for fifty-nine years—in the words of his attending physician—“as calmly as though he were packing for a weekend in the country.” Who was this man, known as the Sex Guru, the “self-appointed bhagwan” (Rajneesh), the Rolls-Royce Guru, the Rich Man’s Guru, and simply the Master? Drawn from nearly five thousand hours of Osho’s recorded talks, this is the story of his youth and education, his life as a professor of philosophy and years of travel teaching the importance of meditation, and the true legacy he sought to leave behind: a religion-less religion centered on individual awareness and responsibility and the teaching of “Zorba the Buddha,” a celebration of the whole human being. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

Book excerpt: A brave and fascinating attempt to compare and bring about a constructive synthesis between Western science and psychology and Eastern spirituality and metaphysics. This book belongs in some sense to the tradtition of Fritjof Capra and 'the Tao of Physics', but is more modern, braver and comprehensive. Taking of from P. R. Sarkars tantric science of mind, creation and microvita, comparisons are made with Kuhn's theories of scientific revolution and paradigm shifts, with Sheldrake, Wilber, Maturana, and many other prominent thinkers. A must for anyone one interested in expanding the domains of bothe science and consciousness.
