She becomes rebellious at school and at her foster homes, so she is returned to Los Nios. Finally, a school friend invites her to live with her family and her existence becomes more pleasant. She eventually graduates from college with a teaching credential and soon marries her prince charming. Another story deals with a hate-love feud between classmates that ends up in matrimony. In the next two stories, children and adults are taught that heeding advice can help avoid unpleasant consequences. Finally, the anecdotes and the poems listed are mainly personal experiences expressed in prose or in simple rhyme for everyone to fully understand and enjoy.

Book excerpt: In 1995, the school diagnostician called a seven-year-old "the worst child seen in 20 years of teaching." Can a child's fate be sealed by such a diagnosis? Well, in 2018, that boy received a Ph.D. from Oxford University. Do you have a child struggling with reading? What labels has your child been given? How do you feel they will progress through school? This is a story for you. --- Every parent has high hopes for their children. When Lois Letchford learns her son has been diagnosed with a low IQ at the end of grade one, she refuses to give up on his future. After thorough testing, Nicholas proves to have no spatial awareness, limited concentration, and can only read ten words. Although discouraged, Lois knows things have to improve. After all, her son is young, and every child learns at their own pace. But once Nicholas is labeled "learning disabled," a designation considered more derogatory than "dyslexia," the world of education is quick to cast him aside. Determined to prove them all wrong, Lois temporarily removes her son from the school system and begins working with him one-on-one. She has no formal reading education herself, and no one to guide her. But she has hope and the strength of will to persevere. And sometimes that's all you need. What happens next is a journey--spanning three continents, unique teaching experiments, never-ending battles with the school system, a mother's discovery of her own learning blocks, and a bond fueled by the desire to rid Nicholas of the "disabled" label. "Reversed" is a memoir of profound determination that follows the highs and lows of overcoming impossible odds, turning one woman into a passionate teacher for children who have been left behind. Nothing is impossible when one digs deep, and looks at students through a new lens.

Book excerpt: In a starred review Publishers Weekly raves: "It’s an avant-garde, surrealist story with a Hollywood-style tearjerker lurking within—and a surprisingly charming and affecting one at that." Award-winning poet Matthea Harvey and illustrator extraordinaire Giselle Potter team up to create an indescribably unique picture book about wanting to be normal, then coming to appreciate being different. Ruby would love to be like everyone else—not easy when you have a tiara-wearing mother and a father who spends his time trimming outrageous topiary. She'd also like to get a nice normal pet, maybe a dog. Then, on a family vacation to Norway, she finds herself adopted by a small, affectionate glacier. How Cecil, as the ice pet is named, proves himself to Ruby—risking his own meltdown—is a story sure to thrill and delight young readers.

There was once a little boy called Willie. I never knew his other name, and as he lived far off behind the mountain, we cannot go to inquire. He had fair hair and blue eyes, and there was something in his face that, when you had looked at him, made you feel quite happy and rested, and think of all the things you meant to do by-and-by when you were wiser and stronger. He lived all alone with the tall aunt, who was very rich, in the big house at the end of the village. Every morning he went down the street with his little goat under his arm, and the village folk looked after him and said, "There goes Master Willie." The tall aunt had a very long neck; on the top of it was her head, on the top of her head she wore a white cap. Willie used often to look up at her and think that the cap was like snow upon the mountain. She was very fond of Willie, but she had lived a great many years and was always sitting still to think them over, and she had forgotten all the games she used to know, all the stories she had read when she was little, and when Willie asked her about them, would say, "No, dear, no, I can't remember; go to the woods and play." Sometimes she would take his face between her two hands and look at him well while Willie felt quite sure that she was not thinking of him, but of someone else he did not know, and then she would kiss him, and turn away quickly, saying, "Go to the woods, dear; it is no good staying with an old woman." Then he, knowing that she wanted to be alone, would pick up his goat and hurry away. He had had a dear little sister, called Apple-blossom, but a strange thing had happened to her. One day she over-wound her very big doll that talked and walked, and the consequence was quite terrible. No sooner was the winding-up key out of the doll's side than it blinked its eyes, talked very fast, made faces, took Apple-blossom by the hand, saying, "I am not your doll any longer, but you are my little girl," and led her right away no one could tell whither, and no one was able to follow. The tall aunt and Willie only knew that she had gone to be the doll's little girl in some strange place, where dolls were stronger and more important than human beings. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this book of short stories with love, for children, and adults of all ages who still remember to laugh, play and dream because their inner child is still alive in their hearts. These stories blend reality and fantasy, as they are two important ingredients of our daily life. The separation line between them is so subtle that they are often confused and impossible to determine. Who can say when a dream stops being a castle in the sky to become a real experience, or when a fact seems fiction and hides a poem among its details? The Green Star tells us about a dream become true, while Letter From A Tiger warns about the hazards that our planet is suffering. Suzie explains what it means to be a Guide Dog, and the mischievous Gino invites us to travel in outer space. The Grammarian's lesson shows how funny can be to play with words, and tomorrow is a story based on a poem. Stories to read, laugh, sing, think and tell, remind us that life is a surprising book, a play in many acts, a sweet melody, a riddle to decipher, a joke to chuckle and a truth worth to share with our dear ones. The purpose of these stories is to entertain and teach, to discover secrets and to inspire, to expand horizons, open doors and show you that the limit of your dreams is the sky. By all means, this is a book for the entire family, where everybody regardless of age can find something of interest because this book is versatile and flexible. Parents and children can learn together. Mom and Dad can read to the entire family and explain to their kids what they don't understand, and older siblings can read to the little ones. Grace Franchi, the author of Dear Suzie, a memoir, Rivers Of Light, a book of prayers, Annie's Journal, the story of her second Guide Dog, The Fruit Contest, a book for children, Alphazoo, The Learning Lesson, a children's book, The Hidden Path, a collection of short stories for aduld, and Suzie Forever, the life of a guide dog from her perspective, is a woman of great inspiration as a poet, writer and religious thinker. Assiduous in her writing activity, as well as in the field of natural healing and diverse cultural interests, writes poetry, short stories for adults and children, and non-fiction about natural healing and vegetarianism. She was born in a family of writers and painters, and has been writing since childhood. She advocates for human rights, animal rights, natural healing ways, vegetarianism and the environment. Grace lives in Florida with her two dogs, Darla, a loving black Labrador Seeing Eye, and Kristian, a mischievous white toy Poodle. Grace speaks several languages, likes to play domino and other games, grows plants and is interested in animals, the environment, music, books, arts, computers and volunteer work. In addition to the above, the author is a competent nutritionist who has helped many people strengthens their health and living closer to nature. She is also an enthusiastic Esperanto-speaker for many years. For more information about this book and the author, visit: http: //www.greenpathtowellness.com/

Book excerpt: This book is full of poetry and short story poems I hope will be enjoyed by all ages. My mother used to read to me and then explain the morals, etc. Some of these poems have morals, others are just plain silly, but almost all are memories from my childhood and stories my mother and aunts passed down. So if youre a parent or grandparent or even if you read with your loved little ones there is something for all. I believe that literature is something that is passed down through generations. It shouldnt be taught only in schools, for in schools the whole meaning is lost. I believe it is the connection between adult to child that makes the differenceas it was in my life and the lives of my grandchildren and children. After all it never hurts to pick up a good book instead of investing in the television set or computer does it?

Written in the mid-19th century, this collection of cautionary tales features vivid illustrations and humorous rhymes that depict misbehaving children facing consequences for their actions. The book's playful yet morally-driven stories were a departure from traditional children's literature of the time, setting a new standard for engaging and thought-provoking storytelling. Hoffmann's simple yet effective literary style appeals to both young readers and adults alike, making it a timeless classic in the genre of children's literature. Heinrich Hoffmann, a German psychiatrist and author, wrote 'Struwwelpeter' as a gift for his young son, shaping the book's content around the moral lessons he wanted to impart. Hoffmann's background in psychology is evident in the way he uses storytelling as a tool for teaching and shaping behavior, making the book not only entertaining but also educational. I highly recommend 'Struwwelpeter: Merry Stories and Funny Pictures' to readers of all ages who appreciate clever storytelling with a moral compass. This book's enduring popularity and impact on children's literature make it a must-read for those interested in the evolution of the genre.

Book excerpt: “It’s a grand experience, this set of poems, this rumination on the cat and the human condition” (School Library Journal). Boris is a big gray cat who loves sleeping and playing and exploring and hunting. And his owner loves him for all of his simple cat ways. But Boris, typical as he may be, is part of a much larger story in this moving exploration of love, longing, compassion, and most of all, the continuous give-and-take of companionship. Newbery Medal recipient Cynthia Rylant’s powerful collection of poems is sure to find its place in the hearts of readers of all ages, especially those who have been lucky enough to experience the many joys and hardships that come with true friendship. “Makes a great introduction for readers not comfortable with poetry. The poems tell an accessible, compelling story . . . Warm and tender.” —The Horn Book “With characteristic sensitivity, Rylant addresses one of her cats in a set of conversational free-verse poems—recalling the day she brought him and his sister home from the humane shelter, warning him about predatory eagles, congratulating him on bonding rather than battling with a new neighbor’s cat and on surviving a solitary jaunt into the surrounding woods.” —Kirkus Reviews “This can be appreciated for the sway of the writing or for its celebration of cats.” —Booklist

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty Days and One Night is a compilation of poems intended to be used as a motivational aid in the writings of other poets from the novice on up. This collection is a sample of examples of different poetry types and styles. Rhyming, non-rhyming, happy, sad, simple, complex (multiple rhyming schemed), haiku, romantic, faith based, and story poems are the bulk of this set of examples. The straightforward eight syllable poem or "eight syllablur" has been included to point out how simple and repetitive this form can be. Complex multiple rhyming schemed poems are the highlight of this collection and are each very different from one another. The intent here is to encourage poets to be original and explore new and unique writing styles. A well written poem should compare to the sounds of children playing, the wind in the trees, and the music made by tires on a distant highway. These sounds and others should bring pen to paper inspiring one to turn black and white into a vibrant rainbow of words. As there is/are good and bad music, stories, and feelings, there are also good and bad poems. Write, rewrite, read, and reread, don't be satisfied with average or mediocre writings. The poet is the writers writer specializing in arranging words in more than just a readable format but in a vividly colorful and musical way without the paint brush or the orchestra. When a poem is completed it should be flawless and fulfilling to the author. Feelings will flow as well as the words. This collection consists of three groups of poems. The first is a set of eighteen poems titled "A Love Story". Inspired by life's rollercoaster ride through love and heartbreak. It classically begins with boy meets girl and a shared romantically passionate love. A love filled with hopes and dreams that could last forever if not for the promiscuous desires of a selfish young man. The pain and anguish felt by him is heart wrenching and ends with him as a lonely old man filled with fond memories and a relentless quest for love and passions of the heart. A life filled with good intentions, selfish mistakes, and a lust for love tainted at times leaving this man old and lonely. Throughout his life's story death is mentioned in seven of the eighteen poems, he is heartbroken to the point of suicidal contemplations, yet he drives onward. Though at times life can sometimes seem like a downward spiral there is always something to live for or look forward to and thankfully he realizes this before it is too late. Part two is a set of worldly writings with an emphasis on the wide variety of topics to pen poems about. There are so many inspirations, yet so little time. Easily an entire volume could be written about God or love but, expand the imagination into a world of talking frogs, children playing, flowing waters, disease, and laughter. Put yourself in the shoes of a man being released from prison or a poor rich man walking home in the rain. Dream, imagine, feel. Express all of this and more with the mere stroke of a pen. Give this magical, mystical form of self expression to the world, responsibly and lovingly. Share what is within you with those who surround you. Finally, we all believe in something and so our beliefs are written so that they may be shared with others. We write about what we believe in hopes that some good will come of it and so I share my faith both lovingly and passionately. I believe what I believe as well as you believe what you believe. My intentions aren't to push you or persuade you into, or convince you to change what or who you are. I am only sharing what I have faith in. I will admit though that I do hope and pray the best for everyone and that these poems of faith were written for all of you as well with that intent. I love you all and I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Book excerpt: About Book: If there is a book that throws light on the quirks, beliefs and vanities of humans in a style that’s refreshingly new, impactful, thought-provoking and then this is it. Fireflies at 3 am. The book gives birth to a new genre of writing, ‘Shoetry’. Where you experience the flow of poetry and the ebb of stories in one book. All in all, every title is short, simple and insightful. Many of them will linger with you, like the taste of the finest single malt whiskey or the first kiss, for a long time to come. About the Author: As a child, Danii was known to cook up stories to save his little ass or to pass his exams. Then he grew up a bit, only in age and size, and went to college. There, he wrote plays, won a few awards and was told to try his luck in advertising. Some kind soul, who had limited knowledge about advertising, told him that this field was all about wearing jeans to work and late-night parties. He needed no further persuasion, and without losing any more time, got into advertising. Over the last 18 years, he got to work on big brands, made some memorable ads, won international recognition for his work, and learned how to manage acid reflux. Life was OK, but he decided to complicate it by writing a book. People nowadays avoid him like the plague lest he ask them to review his work. His children have started studying harder and his wife has taken up baking so that they can escape his nagging requests, every now and then, to read what he’s written. But all said and done, none of that has dampened his spirits. Currently, he is looking forward to selling over a million copies and is busy convincing each of his friends to buy more than 3 copies of the book.

He had a lot of fun writing them and he really hopes you have fun reading them. However, spoiler alert, they’re not for everyone. If you’re a humourless sour grumpy-pants, whose face would split in two if you attempted to smile or laugh, then, whatever you do, don’t read this book! Also, since it is sure to induce giggles, it is best not to read it out loud. After all, humour is contagious, so if you start laughing, you could cause of a charge of chuckles, even a gush of guffaws. We’re sure you wouldn’t want that on your conscience. By the end of the book, you may think the author is a very silly person. You’d be right, too, but at least he’s not a humourless grumpy-pants. Warning: Open this book at your peril! You are about to enter the untamed wilds of Bill Condon’s imagination. Jokes, gags, twisted rhymes, outrageous puns, riotous characters and all the things you least expect lie in wait around every corner. Be prepared to smile, giggle, laugh, groan and guffaw.
