Kimberla Lawson Roby admits that for years, she wasn’t being the real woman God created her to be. Yes, she has always loved God and tried her best to honor Him, but what she eventually discovered was that building and maintaining her own personal relationship with God—and making Him her top priority—was the key to finding joy in all areas of her life. Now, in The Woman God Created You to Be, Kimberla has bravely—and transparently—written about her flaws, fears, and failures, as well as her faith, courage, and successes. From experiencing divorce to marrying her soulmate of twenty-nine years…from hopelessly searching for the perfect job to becoming a New York Times bestselling author…from suffering in silence with anxiety to concentrating on self-care…from struggling with the loss of her mom to finding strength, comfort, peace. and understanding—Kimberla takes you on a journey that will help you do the following: ● Become the Best Spiritual You (Seven Days Per Week) ● Become the Best Personal You (Mentally, Emotionally, and Physically) ● Become the Best Professional You (Without Jeopardizing Your Faith) Kimberla reminds us that when we trust and depend on God—heart, mind, and soul—He will empower us to do more than we ever thought imaginable. He will help us see that we are more than enough, and that He has already given us everything we need to become the women He created us to be—spiritually, personally, professionally…and beyond.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I personally don't like "tell all" books. They seem to seek to uncover and tarnish the reputations of those we admire, when we already know of their humanity. It usually speaks more about the insecurity of the author than it does of their subject. What makes matters worse, is that the person written about is no longer around to defend or explain themselves. But that is not the nature of Daughter of Destiny. Not in the least. I walked away with an even greater respect for this woman of God-with the hope that God could use me, too. I think that was probably the reason she wanted the whole truth to be told. To give all of us hope. Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, Redding, CA, Author of Born for Significance and The Way of Life It is impossible to write about Kathryn Kuhlman without writing about God. Her life was not her own. In a very real way, she was a daughter of destiny. Chosen. Ordained to be His special handmaiden. Jamie Buckingham Wherever Kathryn Kuhlman went, people who once thought miracles impossible learned to believe in miracles. Before she died, she asked that only Jamie Buckingham be allowed to write her official biography-withholding nothing. Here, then, is the story, not of a plaster saint, but of a very human woman-of marriage and divorce, of betrayal within her own staff, of the shadowy events that surrounded her death. It is the story of Kathryn Kuhlman that few knew, as she wanted it told-all of it. It is the story of the redhead from Missouri who became the foremost woman evangelist of the 20th century. Enhanced with personal photographs from Kathryn's family album, illustrating her life story.

Book excerpt: Five decades ago, I was challenged to read the Moynihan Report (1965). Then and now, I take issue with much of the content, which smacks of deficit thinking, blaming the victim, and a blindness or almost total disregard for how systemic racism and social injustices contribute to family structures. I recall being professionally and personally offended by interpretations of single?parent families, which were often negative and hopeless. Moral development, criminal activity, poor educational outcomes, poverty, and apathy of many kinds were placed squarely on the shoulders of these families, especially if the families were/are headed by Black mothers. Eurocentric and middle class notions of ‘real’ families like those depicted on TV shows and movies dominate, then and now, what is deemed healthy in terms of family structures – with the polemic conclusion that nuclear families are the best and sometimes only structure in which children must be raised. These colorblind, economic blind, and racist blind studies, reports, theories, and folktales have failed to do justice to the families in which there is one caregiver. Their stories of woe and mayhem make the news and guide policies and procedures. The stories of children who have been resilient have been unheard and silenced, they have been under?reported and relegated to the status of ‘exception to the rule’. Perhaps they are exceptions, but there are more exceptions than we may know. This book is designed with those stories of resilience and success in mind. The book is not an attempt to glorify single?parent families, but such families are prevalent and increasing. High divorce rates are impactful. And some parents have chosen to not marry, which is their right. While not glorifying single?parent families, we are also not demonizing them or telling their stories void of context. Yes, income will often be low(er), time will be compromised when divided between offspring, work, and other obligations. Likewise, we are not glorifying two?parent families as being ideal; their context matters too. How healthy are married couples who don’t really love or even like each other? How healthy are those parents who have separate sleeping arrangements/bedrooms? How healthy are those families who have oppositional parenting styles and goals for their children? This is the 50th anniversary of the Moynihan Report, and I am concerned that another 50 years will pass that fails to balance out the stories of single?parent families, mainly those whose children succeed and defy the odds so often unexpected of them. I agree with Cohen, co?author of the updated report: "The preoccupation with strengthening marriage as the best route to reducing poverty and inequality has been a policymaking folly”. Further, 50 years after Moynihan released the controversial report, The Negro Family: The Case for National Action, a new brief by the Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) and the Council on Contemporary Families (CCF) titled, "Moynihan's Half Century: Have We Gone to Hell in a Hand Basket?," finds that the changes in family structure that concerned him have indeed continued, becoming widespread among Whites as well, but that they do not explain recent trends in poverty and inequality. In fact, a number of the social ills Moynihan assumed would accompany these changes in family structure—such as rising rates of poverty, school failure, crime, and violence—have instead decreased. Book excerpt: How can she believe God cherishes her when she can't forgive herself? Kelli London once dreamed of being a songwriter. As crazy as it seemed, she hoped that God would use the lyrics that came to her while she slept. She dreamed about Brian too, that the love they shared would be a forever kind of love. But choices she'll forever regret upended her hope . . . and turned her dreams to dust. When those dreams come knocking once more, she's forced to deal with the pain of the past. Heather Anderson's life has spun out of control—first, an affair with a married man, then a one-night stand with the drummer of a popular Christian band that left her devastated. Broken and alone, she cried out to the only One who can save her. And He did. But that's just the beginning, because now she must leave behind the only life she's ever known. Two women with shame-filled pasts form an unlikely friendship. What does God's forgiveness look like for them? Will they ever believe that He loves them . . . and can still offer them a life where they are cherished?

Book excerpt: Stop, Pray, Listen, Obey is a thirty-three-day devotional hoping to inspire people to have a relationship with the Lord and see the Word of God come to life! Each day a scripture is presented, and a testimony of what has happened when the author has applied the scripture to her everyday life. She tells of how God opened her eyes and led her to a place of joy, peace, and love. She shows how God can get you to this place of "heaven on earth" if you learn to stop, pray, listen, and obey! She explains what helped her to know how to listen to this guidance and that it can come in so many different ways! She shows how to hear the Holy Spirit, how to understand the Word, and how to apply it. The author wants the readers to gain an understanding of what it really means to surrender your life to God and how to include Him in every aspect of your life. She wants the readers to understand that a Christian life is not filled with rules and regulations that are impossible to follow. It is filled with failures and forgiveness and love and a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Book excerpt: The only man that Melany Starks ever loved was dying-quickly he was disintegrating before her eyes. Why did she care? He ignored her and watched from among the shadows while she crumbled under the stress and strain of loving only him. He stood by as a spectator while she held on with dear life to what was left of their family long after he walked out in a dramatic and twisted turn of events. It was neither he nor his love that saved her; though it was he and his deceit that pushed her to rock-bottom. Jalen and Melany Starks lived a fairytale life, in the eyes of many. Alas, secrets lurked behind the doors of their mansion, and sick skeletons lived in the closets of his unlikely partners in infidelity. As each part of Jalen's front falls to pieces, so does Melany's life and her ability to cope. Nevertheless, the darkest part of the night is just before the break of day. Only after seeking God does she manage to renew her life and the lives of every one affected by the life and death of Jalen Starks.
