Book Synopsis Shaping the Future of Work by : Thomas A. Kochan
Download or read book Shaping the Future of Work written by Thomas A. Kochan and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shaping the Future of Work lays out a comprehensive strategy for changing the course the American economy and employment system have been on for the past 30 years. The goal is to create more productive businesses that also provide good jobs and careers and by doing so build a more inclusive economy and broadly shared prosperity. This will require workers to acquire new sources of bargaining power and for business, labor, government, and educators to work together to meet the challenges and opportunities facing the next generation workforce. The book reviews what worked well for average workers, families, and the economy during the era of the post-World War II Social Contract, why that contract broke down, and how, working together, we can build a new social contract suitable to today's economy and workforce. The ideas presented here come from direct engagement with next generation workers who participated in a MIT online course devoted to the future of work and from the author's 40 years of research and active involvement with business, government, and labor leaders over how to foster innovations in workplace practices and policies.

Why do companies kill creativity? Does Shark Tank teach us something about the way we pursue success that isn’t true? We’ve been told that working harder and smarter is the only way to succeed in business and life. But it’s not true. Hustle culture is causing burnout and pain in our lives, making us feel divided. What if instead we focused on working creatively with others? And asked How can we shape cultures people love? There is hope in co-creation. Brave Together is a deep exploration into how we can live and lead as co-creators, filled with unexpected stories, powerful principles, and a future-oriented framework. The authors have pressure-tested this work with startups and Fortune 500s—including Apple. Coaching leaders how to reimagine their approach to culture, converting creative ideas into billion-dollar solutions with the help of these patterns: The Mirror Test: Take ownership of your reality and your creative identity. The Hero’s Sacrifice: Break free of ego to connect with others in inspiring ways. Become the Future: Create a synthesis, manifesting the best in mind, heart, and spirit. Book Synopsis Shaping the Future by : Trausti Valsson
Download or read book Shaping the Future written by Trausti Valsson and published by How the World will Change. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an auto-biography of Trausti Valsson, an Icelandic architect, planner, theoretician and a professor of planning at the University of Iceland. It gives a personal account of what shaped planning and design in the world and in Iceland as he experienced it in his lifetime. Valsson e.g. tells about his personal encounter with Ian McHarg, Buckminster Fuller and Christopher Alexander. Early TV started working on a future plan for Iceland, consisting, for example, of roads connecting Iceland´s settlements, across the Central Highlands. He also started an overlay mapping project, mapping both the hazard- and resource areas of the country, which created a basis for his Iceland-Plan proposals. Work on this he continued at Berkeley and at the University of Iceland as he started teaching there in 1988. Many of his articles and books deal with this subject. In 1980 Valsson started his PhD studies in Environmental Planning at UC Berkeley, California. In the philosophical section of his dissertation he presented his argument that the Western, mechanistic worldview was the underlying cause for today´s alienation, and that more holistic and integrative schemes were inherent in Eastern worldviews. TV´s dissertation is called A Theory of Integration for Design and Planning – Based on the Concept of Complementarity (1987). In 1988 – a year after Valsson returned to Iceland – he got an associate professor position in planning at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Iceland, and later a tenured professor position. The last part of this book describes Valsson’s 27 years at the University. The title of this present book: Shaping the Future – Ideas – Planning – Design, reflects how wide Valsson´s field of his operation has been.
