Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people ask why a 14 year old child would enter a convent and even more ask why she would leave. In Seventeen Minus Two I answer these questions. This book relates not only life in this particular convent in the 50s and 60s but the difficulty of the author to reenter a world she was totally unprepared to meet. Short stories of several of her classmates are imbedded in the book. Two of them have died; one from natural causes, one was murdered. The book tells of a child who experienced abuse and her struggle to overcome her feelings of inferiority as well as a lifelong battle with depression. All her life her main desire was to work within and serve the Church. She continually came up against the authority figures in the Church who disregarded her as a person and devalued what she had to offer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First time in the history of India, in 1958, a Sankaracarya visited West. The author, His Holiness Jagadguru Sankaracarya Sri Bharati Krsna Tirtha of Puri, went to America at the invitation of the Self Realization Fellowship, Los Angeles, to spread the message of Vedanta. This book is a compilation of some of his discourses delivered there. These discourses by a saint-yogi and master of ancient Indian scriptures, also well-versed in modern sciences, give the essentials of Vedanta. They combine authenticity of thought with simplicity of language. Being couched in the contemporary idiom they will be found to be particularly suited to the modern mind. Though addressed to American audiences, the discourses carry a message of eternal truth and of universal application. The steps of spiritual inquiry and the paths of God-realisation outlined in them will be of immense practical use to the readers in their quest for the Supreme.
Book Synopsis Math Scripts by : Carol Armstrong Hardee
Download or read book Math Scripts written by Carol Armstrong Hardee and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-12 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Math Scripts: Algebra 1 is a supplemental resource to any Algebra 1 course. It is designed to allow students to practice solving equations and inequalities studied in Algebra 1 using a script. The script provides word-for-word steps using the rules of equations, inequalities, and order of operations. Students can partner with other students and speak the parts in the script that describes step by step how to solve what is given. They have a great opportunity to write what they are saying, which helps them to process how what they are saying is related to how to denote the solution process symbolically. In other words, they are not only able to say the correct process, but they see how it should be written, building their literacy. There are different levels for each topic, so students can begin at an entry level and continue with more complex scripts. Speaking the language of math by performing math scripts will help your student become more fluent in math.

Book Synopsis Encountering Algebra by : Cecilia Kilhamn
Download or read book Encountering Algebra written by Cecilia Kilhamn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reports a comparative research project about algebra teaching and learning in four countries. Algebra is a central topic of learning across the world, and it is well-known that it represents a hurdle for many students. The book presents analyses built on extensive video-recordings of classrooms documenting the first introduction to symbolic algebra (students aged 12 to 14). While the content addressed in all classrooms is variables, expressions and equations, the teaching approaches are diverse. The chapters bring the reader into different algebra classrooms, discussing issues such as mathematization and social norms, the role of mediating tools and designed examples, and teacher beliefs. By comparing classrooms, new insights are generated about how students understand the algebraic content, how teachers instruct, and how both parties deal with difficulties in learning elementary algebra. The book also describes a research methodology using video in search of taken-for-granted aspects of algebra lessons.
Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of the Hollywood Musical by : Dominic Broomfield-McHugh
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the Hollywood Musical written by Dominic Broomfield-McHugh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-16 with total page 665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the release of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! in 2001, the film musical has returned to popularity as one of the most important cinematic genres, a box office hit that appeals to audiences of all ages. Yet the history of the musical on film goes back over seven decades earlier than that, stretching from early examples like The Jazz Singer (1927), the first ever film with synchronized sound, through the Astaire-Rogers musicals of the 1930s, the MGM and Warner Brothers extravaganzas of the 1940s and '50s, and the roadshow era of the 1960s. The genre's renaissance with La La Land (2016) and The Greatest Showman (2017) proves that it remains as appealing as ever, capable of both high critical acclaim and widespread box office success. The Oxford Handbook of the Hollywood Musical, curated by editor Dominic Broomfield-McHugh, reflects and expands on current scholarship on the film musical in a handbook that mixes new discoveries through archival research with new perspectives on familiar titles. It addresses issues such as why audiences accept people bursting into song in musicals; how technology affects the way numbers are staged; and how writers have adapted their material to suit certain stars. It also looks at critical issues such as racism and sexism, and assesses the role and nature of the film musical in the twenty-first century. A remarkable survey at the cutting edge of the field, The Oxford Handbook of the Hollywood Musical will be a resource for students and scholars alike for years to come.
