Book excerpt: Sermon Outlines for Today's Busy Pastor Today, pastors are busier than ever, with more time spent in ministry activities and less time spent in sermon preparation. Sermon Outlines for Busy Pastors: Volume 1gives the busy pastor a head start on sermon preparation. With 52 complete sermon outlines, pastors can save hundreds of hours a year, with the base research and layout for a year's worth of sermons already in place. Here's some advantages Sermon Outlines for Busy Pastors: Volume 1 provides: These are complete sermon outlines. Each sermon outline is much more than a basic three point outline requiring a lot of time and research to flesh out. These outlines go much deeper, with each main point completely developed with sub-points and more. Each sermon outline is rooted in God's Word and expository with a wealth of detail, great for spurring your own thoughts and allowing you to take the sermon in another direction as you feel led.Every sermon outline is solidly based in the Bible and conservative theology.Sermon illustrations include enough detail to suggest your own personal or applicable illustrations.A complete sermon series is included, providing a map for the next several Sundays, saving many hours of advance planning and preparation. All sermons are based completely in Scripture. Here's a complete list of the sermons and the Scripture passages they are based upon:1. You've Been Here Long Enough - Deuteronomy 2:1-7 2. He is God - Mark 14:55-65 3. World History - Genesis 1:1 4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end of the world is coming. From roadside signs to science fiction films, this slogan underscores our society’s nervous fascination with the future. Whether it’s a giant asteroid, a worldwide plague, or some other global catastrophe, the end of the world is a terrifying prospect—at least for those who have no idea what it will be like. For Christians, however, the end of the world should be anything but dreadful. In fact, it should be something we actually look forward to. Why? Because God has told us how the world will end. And He has assured us that the end of this age will mark the beginning of a new, glorious one in which we will serve and worship Him in sinless perfection. Our eternal hope, as believers, is intimately tied to the end of this world. All of this is laid out in the book of Revelation. Not only is Revelation the inspired Word of God, it is also the only New Testament book that includes a promised spiritual blessing for those who study and apply its message. As such, it is an essential part of every Christian’s devotional life. Those who ignore Revelation deprive themselves of a rich treasure of divine truth, and the promised blessings that come from understanding that truth. Join John MacArthur as he explains the book of Revelation in a way that is both doctrinally precise and intensely practical.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sermon on the Mount, one of the most influential portions of the Bible, is the most studied and commented upon portion of the Christian Scriptures. Every Christian generation turns to it for insight and guidance. In this volume, a recognized expert on the Gospels shows that the Sermon on the Mount offers a clear window into understanding God's work in Christ. Jonathan Pennington provides a historical, theological, and literary commentary on the Sermon and explains how this text offers insight into God's plan for human flourishing. As Pennington explores the literary dimensions and theological themes of this famous passage, he situates the Sermon in dialogue with the Jewish and Greek virtue traditions and the philosophical-theological question of human flourishing. He also relates the Sermon's theological themes to contemporary issues such as ethics, philosophy, and economics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most of us, one of the most rewarding, yet difficult tasks, is preparing messages to preach and teach. We are honored by God to stand before our congregation each week, and we want to give them the very best, but with the press of the many demands of ministry, sometimes that is difficult to do. And if you're like me, you prefer writing your own sermons because you have a special connection with your congregation that is hard to reach through a message someone else has written. In other words, no one knows your people like you do! Our new Pulpit Outline Series gives you a starting point – a sermon title, a deductive sermon outline; and a relevant illustration you can use however you like. But you are free to “fill-in-the-blanks” so to speak, and add your own meat and potatoes to the mix! We invite you to make these messages your own, because only you know the people God has called you to preach to. And we are so honored that you've invested in our very first volume in the Pulpit Outline series – 52 Sermons About Jesus – there will be more to come! May God Bless You as You Share His Word!

Book excerpt: A fine introduction to Puritan preaching, this little book also recalls on of the great turning points I English Christianity-for these sermons were preached on 'the Farewell Sunday' in August, 1662, when two thousand ministers left the national Church for conscience' sake. Much has been written on the Great Ejection, but nothing is more important than to hear the ejected speak for themselves. Their watchword was: " I preach as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this study is to discover the identity of the emphatic ‘I’ of Rom 7 with the added purpose of attempting to ‘draw’ a spiritual portrait of a mature Christian believer. To accomplish this purpose, the process is as follows: An examination of Rom 7, within its context, is conducted. This examination is followed by an attempt at determining the experience of the emphatic ‘I’ found within Rom 7. The next step in the process is to compare the experience of the emphatic ‘I’ of Rom 7, as found within its context of Rom 1–8 with what Paul wrote elsewhere on the experience of new life in Christ for Christian believers. The purpose of this comparison is to discover if Paul had a ‘consistent’ portrait of spirituality and Christian maturity. The final step is to compare the experience described by Paul, both in Rom 7 and in the wider Pauline Corpus, with the experience which John Wesley called ‘perfection,’ and with the Mystical experience called the ‘spiritual marriage.’ The study of Romans, Wesley, and the Mystics, coupled with the wider study of the secondary literature showed that there is a remarkable consistency in the teaching and understanding that the closer a Christian believer gets to God, the more this Christian believer is aware of his or her own sinfulness. Paul, in describing the experience of the emphatic ‘I,’ is describing a person who is becoming more and more aware of his or her own sinfulness. The conclusion to be drawn from this study is that the identity of the empathic ‘I’ is of a regenerate Christian believer, one who is growing ever closer and closer to God and at the same time is in ‘pain’ over the remaining effects of sin.

Book excerpt: Out of the religious and cultural turbulence following the Reformation there emerged in sixteenth-century England a "reformed" Christianity which manifested itself in the Puritan tradition. Forged in the fires of political upheaval, persecution, and opposition, the Puritan worldview was championed by its faithful preachers who labored to save souls and guide Christians in the many-times perplexing paths of holy living. This book examines the development of Protestant casuistical ministry in seventeenth-century England with a particular focus on the work of Puritan pastor, Samuel Annesley, and his casuistical efforts through the "Cripplegate Morning Exercises."

This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic of medieval studies, The Resurrection of the Body in Western Christianity, 200–1336 traces ideas of death and resurrection in early and medieval Christianity. Caroline Walker Bynum explores problems of the body and identity in devotional and theological literature, suggesting that medieval attitudes toward the body still shape modern notions of the individual. This expanded edition includes her 1995 article “Why All the Fuss About the Body? A Medievalist’s Perspective,” which takes a broader perspective on the book’s themes. It also includes a new introduction that explores the context in which the book and article were written, as well as why the Middle Ages matter for how we think about the body and life after death today.
