Book Synopsis Ground-water Sensitivity and Vulnerability to Pesticides, Central Virgin River Basin, Washington and Iron Counties, Utah by : Mike Lowe
Download or read book Ground-water Sensitivity and Vulnerability to Pesticides, Central Virgin River Basin, Washington and Iron Counties, Utah written by Mike Lowe and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2006-09 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recommended that states develop Pesticide Management Plans for four agricultural chemicals - alachlor, atrazine, metolachlor, and simazine - used in Utah as herbicides in the production of corn and sorghum, and to control weeds and undesired vegetation (such as along right-of-ways or utility substations). This report and accompanying maps are intended to be used as part of these Pesticide Management Plans to provide local, state, and federal government agencies and agricultural pesticide users with a base of information concerning sensitivity and vulnerability of ground water in the basin-fill aquifer (bedrock is not evaluated) to agricultural pesticides in the central Virgin River basin, Washington and Iron Counties, Utah. We used existing data to produce pesticide sensitivity and vulnerability maps by applying an attribute ranking system specifically tailored to the western United States using Geographic Information System analysis methods. 24 pages + 2 plates
Book Synopsis Vulnerability of the Uppermost Ground Water to Contamination in the Greater Denver Area, Colorado by :
Download or read book Vulnerability of the Uppermost Ground Water to Contamination in the Greater Denver Area, Colorado written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information about vulnerability of ground water to contamination is needed to facilitate ground-water management. Vulnerability of ground water refers to the intrinsic characteristics that determine the sensitivity of the water to being adversely affected by an imposed contaminant load. Within the greater Denver area, vulnerability of the uppermost ground water to contamination from the surface was assessed by considering the intrinsic characteristics included in a method developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Water Well Association, the DRASTIC method. The seven geohydrologic characteristics considered are: (1) Aquifer media, (2) hydraulic conductivity, (3) unsaturated media, (4) depth to water, (5) recharge, (6) soil media, and (7) land-surface slope.

Download or read book Ground-water Sensitivity and Vulnerability to Pesticides in Utah written by Mike Lowe and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2003 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is recommending that states develop Pesticide Management Plans for four agricultural chemicals – alachlor, atrazine, metolachlor, and simazine – herbicides used in Utah in the production of corn and sorghum. This report and accompanying maps are intended to be used as part of these Pesticide Management Plans to provide local, state, and federal government agencies and agricultural pesticide users with a base of information concerning sensitivity and vulnerability of ground water to agricultural pesticides in Utah. We used existing data to produce pesticide sensitivity and vulnerability maps by applying a combined process-based and index-based model specifically tailored to the Western United States using Geographic Information System analysis methods. This is a first cut at developing pesticide sensitivity and vulnerability maps; better data and tools may become available in the future so that better maps can be produced. 40 pages + 2 plates
