Book Synopsis Times, Cells, and Aging by : Bernard Strihler
Download or read book Times, Cells, and Aging written by Bernard Strihler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time, Cells, and Aging, 2nd Edition presents the mechanics of cell function and the relevant implications of the molecular-genetic view to the aging phenomena. This book explores the biology of the aging process. Comprised of 11 chapters, this edition starts with an overview of the causes and mechanisms underlying the gradual deterioration of structure and function characteristics of aging. This text then examines the two aspects of the behavior of man, including the reasoned conscious behavior and the greater dependence on reaction patterns predicted on the successful responses of the past. Other chapters explore the relationship between aging and mortality rate in animals, which is a result of an organism's deceasing ability to function optimally in carrying out his vital functions. The final chapter deals with the implementation of a research plan relevant to understanding the primary mechanisms of the aging process. This book is a valuable resource for gerontologists, biologists, and molecular biologists.

Book Synopsis Planarian Regeneration by : H. V. Brøndsted
Download or read book Planarian Regeneration written by H. V. Brøndsted and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planarian Regeneration deals with regeneration problems including embryogenesis and morphogenesis. The book compares the principles involved in the regeneration processes with those in ontogenesis from the egg. The author also reviews the works of Thomas H. Morgan and Charles M. Child which became the basis for systematic scientific investigation of regeneration. The head regenerates vigorously, with a faster rate behind the eyes, then at various levels along the longitudinal axis of the planarian body. A time-graded regeneration includes inhibitory forces and some genetic codes that determine such rate. The time-graded field has been proven by transplantation experiments; the author addresses the morphological structure to which biochemical factors or processes determine the different rate of regeneration. He notes that the nervous system conforms to these processes as shown by studies of Lender and Klein (1961). The author suggests that the study of regeneration in planarians should involve time considerations quantitatively to explain some substance, if any, from the nervous system that activates the cytoplasm of neoblasts, and then the genome. This book will prove valuable for zoologists and researchers in genetics, biochemistry or molecular biology.
Book Synopsis Longevity, Senescence, and the Genome by : Caleb E. Finch
Download or read book Longevity, Senescence, and the Genome written by Caleb E. Finch and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1994-05-16 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring extensive references, updated for this paperback edition, Longevity, Senescence, and the Genome constitutes a landmark contribution to biomedicine and the evolutionary biology of aging. To enhance gerontology's focus on human age-related dysfunctions, Caleb E. Finch provides a comparative review of all the phyla of organisms, broadening gerontology to intersect with behavioral, developmental, evolutionary, and molecular biology. By comparing species that have different developmental and life spans, Finch proposes an original typology of senescence from rapid to gradual to negligible, and he provides the first multiphyletic calculations of mortality rate constants.
