Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, a great amount of effort and resources have been invested in the development of Semantic Web Service (SWS) frameworks. Numerous description languages, frameworks, tools, and matchmaking and composition algorithms have been proposed. Nevertheless, when faced with a real-world problem, it is still very hard to decide which of these different approaches to use. In this book, the editors present an overall overview and comparison of the main current evaluation initiatives for SWS. The presentation is divided into four parts, each referring to one of the evaluation initiatives. Part I covers the long-established first two tracks of the Semantic Service Selection (S3) Contest – the OWL-S matchmaker evaluation and the SAWSDL matchmaker evaluation. Part II introduces the new S3 Jena Geography Dataset (JGD) cross evaluation contest. Part III presents the Semantic Web Service Challenge. Lastly, Part IV reports on the semantic aspects of the Web Service Challenge. The introduction to each part provides an overview of the evaluation initiative and overall results for its latest evaluation workshops. The following chapters in each part, written by the participants, detail their approaches, solutions and lessons learned. This book is aimed at two different types of readers. Researchers on SWS technology receive an overview of existing approaches in SWS with a particular focus on evaluation approaches; potential users of SWS technologies receive a comprehensive summary of the respective strengths and weaknesses of current systems and thus guidance on factors that play a role in evaluation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence of Web technologies for the distribution of an immense amount of data and knowledge has given rise to the need for supportive frameworks for kno- edge management. Semantic Web technologies aim at providing shared semantic spaces for Web contents, such that people, applications and communities can use a common platform to share information. Canadian Semantic Web: Technologies and Applications aims at contributing to the advancement of the Semantic Web by providing the most recent signi?cant - search on Semantic Web theory, techniques and applications in academia, industry and government in Canada and all over the world. It also enlightens possible - mantic Web research directions in future by reporting some works in-progress that presenton-goingresearchonprinciplesandapplicationsoftheSemanticWeb,while their implementation or deployment may have not been completed. This book consists of ten chapters. The chapters are extended versions of a - lected set of papers from the second Canadian Semantic Web Working Symposium (CSWWS 2009) and the twenty-?rst international Conference on Software En- neering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE 2009). CSWWS 2009 was held in Kelowna, British Columbia in May 2009. Since many of the challenging aspects of the research problems tackled in the Semantic Web area fall in the realm of Ar- ?cial Intelligence or employ of AI techniques, CSWWS 2009 was organized in - nd sociation with the 22 Canadian Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces core natural language processing (NLP) technologies to non-experts in an easily accessible way, as a series of building blocks that lead the user to understand key technologies, why they are required, and how to integrate them into Semantic Web applications. Natural language processing and Semantic Web technologies have different, but complementary roles in data management. Combining these two technologies enables structured and unstructured data to merge seamlessly. Semantic Web technologies aim to convert unstructured data to meaningful representations, which benefit enormously from the use of NLP technologies, thereby enabling applications such as connecting text to Linked Open Data, connecting texts to each other, semantic searching, information visualization, and modeling of user behavior in online networks. The first half of this book describes the basic NLP processing tools: tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, and morphological analysis, in addition to the main tools required for an information extraction system (named entity recognition and relation extraction) which build on these components. The second half of the book explains how Semantic Web and NLP technologies can enhance each other, for example via semantic annotation, ontology linking, and population. These chapters also discuss sentiment analysis, a key component in making sense of textual data, and the difficulties of performing NLP on social media, as well as some proposed solutions. The book finishes by investigating some applications of these tools, focusing on semantic search and visualization, modeling user behavior, and an outlook on the future.

Book excerpt: The book initially presents the basic concepts related to the Semantic Web, Semantic Web-based applications, Web applications, Ontology, and their qualitative aspects. It then presents the evaluation of the structural quality of modular ontologies and review on metrics for the evaluation of ontology behavior. Further, the book discusses the qualitative evaluation of Semantic Web applications deployed on the Cloud, helping readers understand, maintain, integrate, and reuse these applications. The book offers software engineers in general and ontology engineers in particular a single, valuable guide to help them find the best modularization on the basis of goodness of (re) use. It can also serve as an initial source of information for starting research in this domain.

Book excerpt: The data that must be processed in healthcare includes text, numbers, statistics, and images, and healthcare systems are continuously acquiring novel data from cutting-edge technologies like wearable devices. Semantic intelligence technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the internet of things, together with the hybrid methodologies which combine these approaches, are central to the development of the intelligent, knowledge-based systems now used in healthcare. This book, Roles and Challenges of Semantic Intelligence in Healthcare Cognitive Computing explores those emerging fields of science and technology in which cognitive computing techniques offer the effective solutions poised to impact healthcare in the foreseeable future, minimizing errors and improving the effectiveness of personalized care models. The book assesses the current landscape, and identifies the roles and challenges of integrating cognitive computing techniques into the widespread adoption of innovative smart healthcare solutions. Each chapter is the result of collaboration by experts from various domains, and provides a detailed overview of the potential offered by new technologies in the field. A wide spectrum of topics and emerging trends are covered, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of healthcare and cognitive computing and including digital twins, eXplainable AI, AI-based decision-support systems in intensive care, and culinary healthcare, as well as the semantic internet of things (SIoT), natural language processing, and deep learning and graph models. The book presents new ideas which will facilitate collaboration among the different disciplines involved, and will be of interest to all those working in this rapidly evolving field.
