Book Synopsis Effective Implementation of an ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) by : Marvin T. Howell
Download or read book Effective Implementation of an ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) written by Marvin T. Howell and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You may wonder, “Why do we need ISO 50001 EnMS when we have already implemented ISO 14001 Environmental Management (EMS)?” Energy is part of an EMS. Energy is an aspect that is nonrenewable and a must for every organization to have. In ISO 14001 EMS, it is easy to focus on hazardous materials and aspects that have considerable risk in the workplace. Energy use can be easily overlooked, and even when it is considered for an objective and target (O&T), important questions such as what are the significant energy users (SEUs), what can we do to reduce their impact, and what are the variables that affect energy use are not answered. An ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) allows an organization to focus on reducing energy consumption through establishing a compelling energy policy, establishing legal and other requirements and ensuring that they are being met, and conducting a comprehensive energy review that identifies energy efficiencies, energy conservation efforts implemented, and O&Ts with energy action plans that, when achieved, moves the organization toward meeting its energy policy. For manufacturing companies, energy costs impact both the cost to produce the product and the product price. For government organizations, energy reduction is mandated by executive orders. Everyone benefits from reducing energy consumption, from the environment to the economic health of companies. ISO 50001 EnMS can be implemented by itself or with other ISO standards such as 9001, and 14001 or with OHSMS 18000. The choice is yours—–let’s make this a better place to live and work and with less cost.
Book Synopsis Follow-up Audit of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Handling of Cash Seizures by : Glenn A. Fine
Download or read book Follow-up Audit of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Handling of Cash Seizures written by Glenn A. Fine and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Profits from drug-related crimes, including cash, are subject to forfeiture to the gov¿t. In addition to the Drug Enforcement Admin. (DEA), state and local law enforcement agencies also seize cash during their drug enforcement operations. These state and local agencies may transfer seized cash to the DEA for processing. This audit concluded that the DEA needed to: (1) better define when the seizing agents or officers should count seized cash; (2) define a timeframe for taking seized cash to a bank to minimize the time the DEA holds seized cash; and (3) speed the transfer of seized cash to the U.S. Marshals Service by mandating the use of wire transfers. During the period Aug. 1, 2007, through Nov. 24, 2008, the DEA processed almost $522 million in seized cash.
Book Synopsis Job Hazard Analysis by : James Roughton
Download or read book Job Hazard Analysis written by James Roughton and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Job Hazard Analysis: A Guide for Voluntary Compliance and Beyond, Second Edition, provides a complete reference for performing JHA and setting up a JHA program. The book identifies the basic job steps and tasks, their associated hazards and risks, and safe operating procedures and hazard controls based on this analysis. Authors James Roughton and Nathan Crutchfield argue that the JHA should be the centerpiece of any risk control and occupational safety and health program. However, the traditional JHA has potential problems in gathering and analysis of task data and, with its focus on the sequence of steps, can miss the behavioral effects and the systems interactions between tools, equipment, materials, work environment, management and the individual worker. The concepts are presented for the JHA, incorporating elements from Behavior-Based Safety and Six Sigma. Readers are taken through the whole process of developing tools for identifying workplace hazards, developing systems that support hazard recognition, developing an effective JHA, and managing a JHA based program that can be easily incorporated into occupational safety and health management systems, thus allowing businesses to move from mere compliance to a pro-active safety management. The book is supported by numerous examples of JHAs, end of chapter review questions, sample checklists, action plans, and forms. Provides a basic understanding of the JHA process and a more in-depth background on the human performance improvement for a successful JHA program implementation Methodically develops the risk assessment basics needed within the JHA process Presents expanded resources that are useful in safety systems Incorporates elements from Behavior-Based Safety and Six Sigma
