Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Miscellaneous, grade: B+, , course: Research Methods, language: English, abstract: organizations want to protect themselves as well as to lead that particular industry, for that the survival of organizations is to deliver something new with more features on continuous bases, organizations have to be more innovative, that is to apply the best solution which fulfill customer new requirements, implicit needs, existing industry needs or current market requirements. That is consummate through nominal and valuable products, services, ideas, and technologies. But for that organizations have to engage their employees in innovation because without engaging employees departments, scientists, researchers can do nothing as the studies illustrates that innovation is not just the duty of scientists, specialists, either the organizations have to encourage and expand the innovational aptitude of their employees, if they want to be at the high position (Dorenbosch L, Marloes L, Engen V, Verhagen M). For that just innovation is not enough, either organization have to develop innovative work environment so that each and every employee can contribute towards innovation as illustrated in research that each single employee’s dealings and proceedings are of critical magnitude and significance for permanent innovation development as well as enhancement (Jong D et al, 2010). The factors that affect employee innovative work behavior and cause of innovation have been explored using different researches and frameworks. According to Super, guidance to career and choosing career and then its development is process of mounting and executing person’s self-concept which leads to mental growth that causes in innovation. (Leung A S, 2008). There are five stages of a person’s life, the first two stages of that theory are of Growth and Exploration where a person needs career counseling and the fourth stage of that theory is Maintenance where the employee is self-actualized (Retrieved online from Super’s theory). Career counseling provides employees with the break to identify career goals and to craft plans within the background of organizational realities. Studies explored that there is a positive relation between career development and innovation. But how can we achieve career development, we can achieve it by making employees aware of career counseling and self-actualization.

The choice of a career would serve as a vehicle through which they can pursue their interests and showcase their intelligence and capabilities. Thus, it is imperative that factors that contribute to one's career decicision-making self-efficacy be determined. This study looks into the profile of the respondents in terms of their self-concept, career maturity, parental support and career decision-making self-efficacy as well as the intercorrelations among the variables with the end in view of developing a program that will help them in making wise decisions and lead them to career satisfaction. Two hundred (200) 2nd and 3rd year college students composed of 85 (42%) males and 115 (58%) females, ages 17-24 years old were involved in the study. In these year levels, the students are still allowed to shift programs as they are exposed to general courses only. Descriptive correlational design using Pearson Product Moment Correlation method was employed. Coppersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI), Career Maturity Inventory-Attitude Scale (CMI-R), Career-Related PArent Support Scale (CRPSS) and Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy-Short Form (CDMSE) were used to gather the data from the respondents. The results revealed that: (a) there is significant correlation between self-concept and career decision-making self efficacy. (b) there is significant correlation between career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity and (c) there is significant correlation between parental support and career decision-making self-efficacy. Also, a semi-structured interview was conducted among 14 selected college students to determine the importance of self-concept, career maturity, parental support, and career decision-making self-efficacy. These results, most importantly could serve as important reference in the development of a career guidance program aimed at enhancing one's career self-efficacy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges all existing theories which link self-realization to wealth and honor, to be achieved only when all other needs are fully satisfied. This study is conducted by an international group of leading psychologists. It argues that existing pyramidal theories are not only unfair to all strata of society but also not defendable in light of scientific research. The authors put forward a new theory of self-realization based mainly on empirical research but also on the analysis of past literature and the study of famous people. They contend that self-realization functions within the framework of adjustment. This theory allows for the self-realization of the ordinary man not just the elite. In this framework the individual selects and defines what constitutes his/her self-realization. Self-Realization, Success and Adjustment will be of particular interest to personality theorists, occupational and career counselors, and social psychologists. Divided into two parts, Part I of this book analyzes the meaning of self-realization for the modern man: Is it Success? Is it money or access to power? Is it the challenge of work? At the conclusion of this section the authors present their new theory based on the framework of adjustment. Part II gives a theoretical and practical analysis of the means toward self-realization: participation in the social process, the development of cognitive, effective, and motivational dimensions of personality, the planning and realization of life-long careers, and above all, the plan project of one's life.

Book excerpt: Career development interventions can serve as one means to constructively address the problems of inequitable access to educational and occupational options and achievement that promote health and well-being across the lifespan. Career Development Interventions for Social Justice: Addressing Needs across the Lifespan in Educational, Community, and Employment Contexts offers practical examples of career development interventions that may be adapted to constructively address social justice needs at various points across the lifespan (ranging from elementary school ages to older adults) in educational, community, and employment contexts. Tailored to the needs and context of a specific underserved group of individuals, each intervention integrates relevant career development theory, research, ethical considerations, elements of sound program design and evaluation, and professional competencies for best practices in multicultural career counseling and social justice advocacy. Unique to this book are the contributions of authors, including practicing professional counselors and psychologists, who share their personal reflections of self-awareness from privileged and marginalized identities regarding potential biases and resources of relevance to their chapter’s intervention. In the process of designing and providing career development services for individuals from marginalized groups, it is imperative for counselors to continually reflect on and consult about their own biases and resources for empathic understanding and effectiveness with those whom we serve.
