Book excerpt: In the ancient sands of Egypt, where gods whisper and the veil between life and death is thin, there reigned a Pharaoh named Kokb'ael, wise, powerful, and beloved by his people. But beneath his golden rule lay a fear darker than the shadowed tombs of the underworld – a fear of mortality and a forgotten legacy. "Origins: The Pharaoh's Pact" delves into the heart of Kokb'ael's obsession, as a prophecy of doom sets him on a perilous path. Desperate to transcend the grip of death and carve a name that would echo through the ages, Kokb'ael turns to forbidden magic, seeking the knowledge that lies hidden in the cryptic whispers of shadows and ancient texts. His quest leads him to The Grey, an enigmatic figure bearing the secrets of immortality. But such power comes with a grave cost. As Kokb'ael embraces the dark arts, he transforms not only his fate but also the destiny of his kingdom. His pursuit of eternal life ushers in an era of darkness, casting a shadow over the lands he once nobly ruled. Journey into a world where the line between hero and villain blurs, and where the pursuit of eternal life comes at an unimaginable price.

Book Synopsis Human Rights and Relative Universalism by : Marie-Luisa Frick
Download or read book Human Rights and Relative Universalism written by Marie-Luisa Frick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-31 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that human rights cannot go global without going local. This important lesson from the winding debates on universalism and particularism raises intricate questions: what are human rights after all, given the dissent surrounding their foundations, content, and scope? What are legitimate deviances from classical human rights (law) and where should we draw “red lines”? Making a case for balancing conceptual openness and distinctness, this book addresses the key human rights issues of our time and opens up novel spaces for deliberation. It engages philosophical reasoning with law, politics, and religion and demonstrates that a meaningful relativist account of human rights is not only possible, but a sorely needed antidote to dogmatism and polarization.

Book Synopsis Form and Transformation by : Frederic M. Schroeder
Download or read book Form and Transformation written by Frederic M. Schroeder and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1992-04-13 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Platonic Form is often presented as an instrument of explanation and as a cause in ontology, epistemology, and ethics. As such, it is usually approached from the perspective of its relations to the particulars of the sensible world. Frederic Schroeder contends that Plotinus argues for the sovereignty of the Platonic Form both as a ground of being and as an intrinsically valuable object of intellective and spiritual vision. These two aspects coalesce in the thought of Plotinus, for whom the Form is, apart from its philosophical uses, an object of enjoyment. Schroeder argues also that the particular must be seen as having an intrinsic character, distinct from its relationship to the Form or to other particulars. The particular thus becomes a window on the world of Form. In the course of his exploration of the sovereignty of Form, Schroeder examines the themes of illumination, silence, language, and love. He undertakes an immanent interpretation of the Plotinian text, showing how Plotinian vocabulary displays intricate internal connections and genetic relationships. Schroeder shows that Plotinus' thought is not susceptible to organization into a closed, linear synthesis but has its own order, centred on the conviction that Form is of intrinsic value and that it is only from the perspective of this intrinsic value that we can understand its uses and significance in explanation and causation. Rather than trying to construct such a synthesis, Schroeder, starting from this basic insight into Plotinus' understanding of the Platonic Form, leads the reader to a greater understanding of Plotinus' manner of philosophizing.
