Book excerpt: This study measured effects of seabed preparation methods of rhizoma peanut (Arachis glabrata Benth.: RP) living mulch on weed suppression, grain yield, and herbage biomass yield in pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) and grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.) at two planting dates (T1, T2). Weed mass was greatest (P [less than or equal to] 0.05) under tillage across cereal treatments at T1. Mowing lead to approximately 200% greater (P [less than or equal to] 0.05) RP reemergence than tilling during the 2013 cereal production season. Tilling, however, fostered the greatest 2014 RP reemergence, grain yields and biomass yields at T2. These yields were less than comparable conventional systems, however, which indicated low cereal crop grain and biomass yields requiring further research of RP as a living mulch.
