Book excerpt: The attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 changed the way the world thinks about security. Everyday citizens learned how national security, international politics, and the economy are inextricably linked to business continuity and corporate security. Corporate leaders were reminded that the security of business, intellectual, and human assets has a tremendous impact on an organization's long-term viability. In Rethinking Corporate Security, Fortune 500 consultant Dennis Dalton helps security directors, CEOs, and business managers understand the fundamental role of security in today's business environment and outlines the steps to protect against corporate loss. He draws on the insights of such leaders as Jack Welch, Bill Gates, Charles Schwab, and Tom Peters in this unique review of security's evolving role and the development of a new management paradigm. * If you truly wish to improve your own skills, and the effectiveness of your Corporation's security focus, you need to read this book * Presents connections of theory to real-world case examples in historical and contemporary assessment of security management principles * Applies classic business and management strategies to the corporate security management function

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sebastian Pape discusses two different scenarios for authentication. On the one hand, users cannot trust their devices and nevertheless want to be able to do secure authentication. On the other hand, users may not want to be tracked while their service provider does not want them to share their credentials. Many users may not be able to determine whether their device is trustworthy, i.e. it might contain malware. One solution is to use visual cryptography for authentication. The author generalizes this concept to human decipherable encryption schemes and establishes a relationship to CAPTCHAS. He proposes a new security model and presents the first visual encryption scheme which makes use of noise to complicate the adversary's task. To prevent service providers from keeping their users under surveillance, anonymous credentials may be used. However, sometimes it is desirable to prevent the users from sharing their credentials. The author compares existing approaches based on non-transferable anonymous credentials and proposes an approach which combines biometrics and smartcards.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations of all sizes struggle to secure their data in a constantly evolving digital landscape. Expanding digital footprints and the rapid expansion of cloud strategies arising from the COVID-19 pandemic increase an organization’s attack surface. When combined with limited resources caused by the cybersecurity skills gap, securing small and mid-sized business IT infrastructures becomes more complicated. With limited staffing and budgetary restrictions, small businesses need to create cost-effective, security-driven programs that protect data while also meeting increasingly stringent compliance requirements. This book bridges the gap between complex technical language and business objectives to create a security-first review of the security and compliance landscapes. Starting from the premise that “with security comes compliance,” this book starts by defining “security-first” and then walking readers through the process of creating a holistic security and compliance program. Looking at security and privacy through the lens of zero trust, this overview of regulations and industry standards provides both background about and implications drawn from modern security practices. Rather than focusing solely on individual cybersecurity frameworks, this book offers insights into best practices based on the commonalities between regulations and industry standards, highlighting some of the primary differences to show the nuances. Woven throughout are practical examples of solutions that enable small and mid-sized businesses to create “cybersustainable” security-focused policies, processes, and controls that protect today’s future for tomorrow’s digital ecosystem.

Book excerpt: This practical and engaging book provides a coherent approach to global business responsibility and ethics based on the latest research, theory, and practice. The authors incorporate numerous interesting and current real world examples to support the argument that corporations need to - and can - identify and implement processes that foster ethical conduct, ensure basic human rights, protect the natural environment, and enhance social justice wherever businesses operate around the globe. "Global Business Citizenship" combines elements of political theory, stakeholder relationships, business ethics, corporate social performance, accountability and measurement, and organizational change. Its practical approach encompasses "best practices" in stakeholder management, experiments in applying corporate values to local conditions, and social environmental auditing and reporting. Focusing on the strategic alignment and change management process for implementing business citizenship principles and practices, it is an essential supplement for any course concerned with ethics and social responsibility in today's global business climate.
