Book Synopsis The Vienna Rules by : Franz T. Schwarz
Download or read book The Vienna Rules written by Franz T. Schwarz and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 1138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the new Vienna Rules and the Austrian Arbitration Act that both came into effect on 1 July 2006 as the result of a major reform. It is devoted to two principles. First, it recognizes that no two international arbitrations are the same. Arbitration thrives, and is today the predominant method of transnational dispute resolution, because it meets the demands of international business for flexibility and efficacy. Arbitration will continue to succeed if it retains those properties, allowing for the adoption of procedures that are customized to satisfy the commercial prerogatives of the individual case. This book seeks to provide its readers with a general framework, and specific instruments, to negotiate that process.
Book Synopsis My Personal History of The British Interplanetary Society by : Leslie Johnson
Download or read book My Personal History of The British Interplanetary Society written by Leslie Johnson and published by Astrotalkuk Publications. This book was released on 2022 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the founding of the British Interplanetary Society Liverpool in 1933 before it relocated to London in 1937. It is the personal meticulous recollection of Leslie J Johnson who was the BIS’s First Hon. Secretary but later its treasurer, editor of the bulletin and the journal and a vice president. Published for the first time, this manuscript was written using a manual typewritten and rich first-hand source material consisting of thousands of handwritten letters. As the Hon. secretary, he was the first contact for many now familiar names, including a teenage Arthur C Clarke in 1933, and from Dr W Olaf Stapledon, a professor at Liverpool University, writers EF Russell, Walter H Gillings, Edward John Carnell, Stephen Smith, a rocket mail experimenter in India, Herr Will Ley, a rocket engineer from Germany. Many who joined the BIS were interested in reading and writing science fiction, including Johnson. One of his earliest stories, “Satellites of Death”, was published in 1938, two decades before the launch of Sputnik. The first passenger railway, military submarine and programable computer emerged in the Northwest of England for the first time. It was from this generation that gifted and visionary individuals emerged in pursuit of the idea and ideals of interplanetary space travel. Similar societies were founded around the world at about the same time but only the BIS continues to the present day contributing to British space policy and innovative ideas for spaceflight for communication satellites, human spaceflight and interstellar travel. As the BIS approaches its 90th year, it can celebrate some momentous achievements, including being a founding member in 1950 of the International Astronautical Federation which is now seen as the global premier body that binds the international space community.
Book Synopsis Deans of Men and the Shaping of Modern College Culture by : R. Schwartz
Download or read book Deans of Men and the Shaping of Modern College Culture written by R. Schwartz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-22 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deans of men in American colleges and universities were created in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to help manage a growing student population. The early deans often had a personality that allowed them to engage easily with students. Over time, many deans saw their offices increase in size and responsibility. The profession grew slowly but by the 1940's drew several hundred men to annual conferences and many more were members. Deans of men and women were significant figures for college students; many students saw them as the "face" of the college or university. Schwartz traces the role and work of the deans and how they managed the rapidly growing culture of the American college campus in the twentieth century.
Book Synopsis Arbitrating under the 2020 LCIA Rules by : Maxi Scherer
Download or read book Arbitrating under the 2020 LCIA Rules written by Maxi Scherer and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2021-07-12 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the oldest of all major arbitral institutions, has, since its establishment well over a century ago, embodied the ideals that underlie the arbitral alternative and set its face against undue delay, soaring cost, complexity, and acrimony. Today, the LCIA administers cases arising under any system of law in any venue worldwide. Underscoring the institution’s international nature, and over 80% of parties in pending LCIA cases today are not of English nationality. This highly practical and user-friendly guide provides not only a thorough analysis of the 2020 LCIA Rules but also a comprehensive explanation of the basic principles governing LCIA arbitration, along with an in-depth analysis of complex issues that may arise in the course of LCIA proceedings. Among the new and revised rules affecting LCIA practice and procedure described in detail include the following: use of technology, accommodating virtual conferencing, remote hearings and electronically signed awards, as well as confirming the primacy of electronic communication with the LCIA; tools to expedite proceedings, including the possibility of early dismissal determinations; explicit consideration of data protection; issues relating to bribery, corruption, terrorist financing, fraud, tax evasion, money laundering and/or economic or trade sanctions; streamlined accommodations for consolidation, composite Requests and concurrent conduct of arbitrations; conduct of authorised representatives of a party; requirements for appointment and removal of tribunal secretaries; and revised schedules of arbitration and mediation costs. The twenty-six chapters of the book provide references to essential national court judgments, statutory provisions, up-to-date statistics, and bibliographical sources on LCIA arbitrations. The 2020 LCIA Rules reflect the most sophisticated current modifications of arbitral procedure, fully aligned with the needs of current global commercial activities. For this reason, and because many companies worldwide include LCIA arbitration clauses in their agreements, this book is invaluable to business executives and corporate counsel as well as to scholars of alternative dispute resolution.
