Book excerpt: “This is one of my coziest reads of the last year, and I find myself thinking about its enchanted setting all the time.” - Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family—and a new love—changes the course of her life. As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously. But someone does. An unexpected message arrives, begging her to travel to the remote and mysterious Nowhere House to teach three young witches how to control their magic. It breaks all of the rules, but Mika goes anyway, and is immediately tangled up in the lives and secrets of not only her three charges, but also an absent archaeologist, a retired actor, two long-suffering caretakers, and…Jamie. The handsome and prickly librarian of Nowhere House would do anything to protect the children, and as far as he’s concerned, a stranger like Mika is a threat. An irritatingly appealing threat. As Mika begins to find her place at Nowhere House, the thought of belonging somewhere begins to feel like a real possibility. But magic isn't the only danger in the world, and when peril comes knocking at their door, Mika will need to decide whether to risk everything to protect a found family she didn’t know she was looking for....

Book excerpt: Exiled from the necromancer guild and at the top of the Mage Lords' most wanted list. Not exactly where I'd hoped to end up after saving the city, especially since I'm also the sole heir to the Hemlock coven and the last line of defence between our world and a bunch of angry gods. Not only is my spirit still bound to my ancestor, Evelyn Hemlock, she's beginning to develop an alarming taste for freedom. And then there's Keir, my vampire boyfriend, whose connection to me might be the death of both of us. With the mages hell-bent on taking everyone who might challenge them out of the picture, the stakes have never been higher. The only way to win back my freedom is to bring down the most powerful man in the city. Let's just say the odds -- and the gods -- aren't on my side… Keywords: urban fantasy, magic, ghost mystery, contemporary fantasy, urban fantasy series, British fantasy, Scotland, complete fantasy series, vampire fantasy, female protagonist urban fantasy, witch, dark magic, ghosts, post-apocalyptic fantasy, psychics, paranormal thriller, supernatural suspense, urban fantasy mage, necromancer, afterlife, action urban fantasy, paranormal fantasy, shifters, myths and legends, witch thriller

In Witches’ Craft, Bruce Wilborn demystifies Wicca—a religion that is loving and nonjudgmental. Wicca’s strength is in its ability to provide spiritual light for a truly diverse group of people. However, its expansive range of rituals and traditions may be confusing to the new practitioner. Witches’ Craft provides detailed explanations of practices from each of the five major Wiccan traditions, removing the shroud of mystery surrounding one of the fastest-growing religions of the twenty-first century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does an entire society believe that there are witches who must be burned? What roles did the emerging 'state', the professions of clerics and jurists, and the public involved play in each case? And how could this project be completed? From a sociological point of view, the findings of recent international research on witches provide a model of a more general, highly ambivalent, 'pastoral' attitude, according to which a shepherd has to care for the welfare of his flock as well as for its erring sheep. The first main part describes the clerical initial situation, which developed the 'Dominican' demonological model of witchcraft on the basis of the still dominant magico-religious mentality in the 15th century. A model, according to the second part of the book, which then in the course of the 16th century in Western Europe increasingly fell into the hands of the not so innocent jurists. From there it developed into a legal witch persecution that realized the early European witch model from the village witch to the mass persecutions to the late child witches. The third part describes how witch persecutions slowly became less important towards the end of the 17th century as a general witchcraft 'politics' game in the transition from a confessional state to a (court) 'civil service' state.

Book excerpt: The fifteenth to eighteenth centuries was a period of witchcraft prosecutions throughout Europe and modern scholars have now devoted a huge amount of research to these episodes. This volume will attempt to bring this work together by summarising the history of the trials in a new way - according to the types of legal systems involved. Other topics covered will be the continued practical use made of magic, the elaboration of demonological theories about witchcraft and magic, and the further development of scientific interests in natural magic through the 'Neoplatonic' and 'Hermetic' period.Amongst the topics included here are Superstition and Belief in high and popular culture, the place of Medicine, Witchcraft survivals in art and literature, and the survival of Persecution.>

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All three books in the spellbinding YA trilogy hailed as “a smashing blend of adventure, fantasy, humor, romance, and historical fiction” (Booklist). For cousins Emma, Gretchen, and Penelope, the stuffiness of 1814 London society is simply unbearable. But their fates change when a sacred glass family keepsake is accidentally shattered—and all three young women find themselves gifted with powers of witchcraft. For in the coming days, they will most certainly need them . . . The Secret Witch: London is slowly sinking into darkness as the evil beings of the magical world start to roam free, including a nefarious coven whose powerful members gain their strength from killing young witches. Emma keeps finding the bodies of their victims, leading some to suspect her of the killings. But the coven sees her as something much more—their next target. The Whisper Witch: As a Whisperer, Gretchen constantly hears the murmurs of other witches’ spells. And while this does help her to know when one of her own spells is going wrong, the assault on her magical senses makes it difficult to use her own gifts. But when something evil begins menacing London, only Gretchen and her cousins can stop a terrible sacrifice from unleashing an unspeakable darkness. The Bone Witch: Cousin Penelope has been kidnapped and forced to use her talents for reading objects to locate the bones of long-dead evil witches. Her captor plans to use the bones to reanimate their dark spirits in living bodies and unleash them on an unsuspecting world. And the only hope to stop such a nightmare rests with Gretchen, Emma, and every witch in London as they struggle to reach Penelope in time. Full of action, romance, and humor, these three witchy, wonderful young adult adventures are sure to “appeal to those who were fans of Libba Bray’s Gemma Doyle series and the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer” (VOYA).
