Book Synopsis Quantitive Analysis Of Biospec by : Per Lundahl
Download or read book Quantitive Analysis Of Biospec written by Per Lundahl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2004, this book collects several up-to-date methods for quantitative analysis of biospecific interactions, a field that has a long history that perhaps can be said to have begun with the classical paper of G. Scatchard in 1949 (The attractions of proteins for small molecules and ions, but which has advanced impressively during the last few years. A precise spatial arrangement of just a few hydrogen bonds can confer a remarkably specific reversible association between two molecules. A web of weak interactions governs biospecific recognition in general. The binding equilibria in living cells tune and coordinate a multitude of functions. The thermodynamic properties of such interactions are often studied by binding experiments in simplified and essentially ideal systems. However, similar types of studies may elucidate the biologically relevant dynamic steady-state conditions in living cells and organisms, allowing for the very wide range of interactant concentrations and the interplay between the many reactions and interactions. The development in biosciences will continue with in-depth studies of macromolecules and membranes. More detailed knowledge will allow analyses of delicate balances between substances and events in the complex systems involved in life processes. Methods to study biospecific affinities are thus highly important tools for understanding mechanisms and effects of molecular binding events in vivo and in vitro, e.g., in biochemical, biomedical and pharmaceutical research, and for biotechnological research and production.
Book Synopsis Synthetic Chemistry of Stable Nitroxides by : L. B. Volodarsky
Download or read book Synthetic Chemistry of Stable Nitroxides written by L. B. Volodarsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book is devoted to covering the synthetic aspects of nitroxide chemistry. The problems of application and physicochemical properties of nitroxides are considered in the context of the choice of necessary radical structures, convenient precursors, and strategy of the synthesis. The book offers comparisons of the concrete classes of nitroxides to help reveal the structural peculiarities and synthetic abilities of compounds of different classes. It also summarizes data on the magneto-structural correlation for the metal complexes with 3-imidazoline nitroxides and considers the ways in which the molecular design of 2- and 3-dimensional heterospin compounds is capable of magnetic phase transfer in a ferromagnetic state. The book will be a significant reference for chemists, biochemists, spectroscopists, and other users of nitroxides, spin labels, probes, and paramagnetic ligands.

Book Synopsis Molecular Basis of Specificity in Nucleic Acid-Drug Interactions by : A. Pullman
Download or read book Molecular Basis of Specificity in Nucleic Acid-Drug Interactions written by A. Pullman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the central problems in the study of the mechanism of DNA-ligand interactions is the existence and nature of sequence specificity with respect to the base pairs of DNA. The presence of such a specificity could be of particular significance because it might possibly mean the involvement of specific genes in the effectiveness of the different drugs. The elucidation of the factors responsible for the specificity could then be important for the development of compounds susceptible to contribute to the control of gene expression and also to the development of rationally conceived, improved new generations of effective and specific chemotherapeutic agents. Important recent achievements, experimental and theoretical, in the analysis of such sequence specificities open prospects for possible rapid progress in this field. The 23rd Jerusalem symposium was devoted to the exploration of these recent achievements in relation to many types of ligand, with special emphasis on antitumor drugs. All major types of interaction, intercalation, groove binding, covalent linking, coordination, have been considered. So was also the effect of the interaction on the structure and properties of the nucleic acids and the relationship between the interaction and biological or pharmacological activities. We feel that this Volume presents a relatively complete up-to-date account of the state of the art in this important field of research.
