This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights two essential analyses of data collected during the LHCb experiment, based on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The first comprises the first observation and studies of matter-antimatter asymmetries in two three-body b-baryon decays, paving the way for more precise measurements of the relatively unknown decay properties of b-baryon decays. The second is an analysis of a charged B meson decay to three charged pions, where previously large matter-antimatter asymmetries were observed in a model-independent analysis. Here a model of the decay amplitude is constructed using the unitarity-conserving ‘K-matrix’ model for the scalar contributions, so as to gain an understanding of how the previously observed matter-antimatter asymmetries arise; further, the model’s construction yields the most precise and comprehensive study of this decay mode to date.

I have seen no review comparable to the excellent summary of electric dipole moments by S Barr and W Marciano … the volume offers a generally readable entry into this field for a reader who has a basic background in particle physics.” John F Donoghue Science “… this book performs a very useful service for anyone active or interested in CP violation, both as a source of primary information and as a work of reference.” K J Peach J Phys. Book Synopsis Time-Dependent CP Violation Measurements by : Markus Röhrken
Download or read book Time-Dependent CP Violation Measurements written by Markus Röhrken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.

This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenology of the violation of the CP symmetry by the fundamental interactions is a fascinating subject which, even after decades of dedicated theoretical and experimental research, is far to be fully understood. While investigations of the K and B systems have and will continue to play a central role in this field of research, in depth examinations of the D mesons sector have yet to be performed with enough precision, leaving a gap in our knowledge. This book describes a search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed neutral D decays to two charged pions or kaons performed using the proton-antiproton collisions recorded at the Fermilab's TeVatron collider by the CDF experiment during February 2002 and January 2010. The result is the current most accurate determination of CP-violating asymmetries in these decays and represents a pioneering measurement of high precision CP violation in the charm sector at hadron colliders that has been of inspiration for the similar studies which are now ongoing at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider.

Book Synopsis B Physics & Cp Violation '99, 3rd Intl Conf by : Wei Shu Hou
Download or read book B Physics & Cp Violation '99, 3rd Intl Conf written by Wei Shu Hou and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-12-29 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation was first observed in 1964, but only in 1999 did we gain much greater experimental insight. Direct CP violation finally appeared in the form of ε′/ε in the K system. Indirect CP violation in B → J/Ψ Ks decay, the raison d'être for construction of e+e- B factories, was first sniffed out at the proton-antiproton collider. The asymmetric B factories — BABAR at SLAC and BELLE at KEK — were completed, while the symmetric B factory at Cornell was upgraded to CLEO-III. It seems that everyone is positioning himself for the great competition on “B Physics and CP Violation”, racing to unravel the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, especially the size and origin of CP phases. The change of millennium provides a dramatic backdrop. To have intensive discussions at the technical level, to create broader interest in the subject, and to maximize interaction between experimenters and theorists, this book starts with the status of B factories: accelerator, detector and physics analysis. Following an overview of B physics and the CKM matrix, it delves into the details of lifetime, spectroscopy and decays, with even more specialized discussions on rare decays, direct and indirect CP violation, factorization and final state interactions, determination of unitarity phases, etc. Topics on ε′/ε, rare K decay, charm and hyperon systems, and various T, CP and CPT tests are also discussed at length. The book closes with the outlook for hadron machines and the prospects for new physics. A special feature is that there are two summary talks, one on experiment and the other on theory. The book is further augmented by two dozen excellent contributed talks.
Book Synopsis Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar by :
Download or read book Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I report on recent measurements from the Belle and BABAR collaborations on the decay of the B meson to hadronic final states without a charm quark. The study of the branching fractions and angular distributions of B meson decays to hadronic final states without a charm quark probes the dynamics of both the weak and strong interactions, and plays an important role in understanding CP Violation (CPV) in the quark sector. CP Violation at the B factories is described graphically by a triangle with sides formed from the CKM matrix elements V{sub qd}V*{sub qb} (q = u, c, t) and internal angles [alpha], [beta] [gamma] (or [phi]2, [phi]1, [phi]3). Discrepancies in the measured values of the sides and angles could be an indication of New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) due to enhanced branching fractions or modified CP asymmetries. The experimental measurements of branching fractions, CP asymmetries, polarization and phases (both weak and strong) can be compared to theoretical models based on, for example, QCD factorization, SU(3) symmetry and Lattice QCD.
Book Synopsis Direct CP Violation in Untagged B-meson Decays by :
Download or read book Direct CP Violation in Untagged B-meson Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct CP violation can exist in untagged, neutral B-meson decays to certain self-conjugate, hadronic final states. As a necessary condition, the resonances which appear therein must permit the identification of distinct, CP-conjugate states--in analogy to stereochemistry, we term such states ''CP-enantiomers.'' These states permit the construction of CP-even and CP-odd amplitude combinations and of observables sensitive to their interference, which are non-zero if direct CP violation is present. The decay B 2!??−?°, containing the distinct CP-conjugate states?+?− and?−?+, provides one such example of a CP-enantiomeric pair. We illustrate the possibilities in various multi-particle final states.

Book excerpt: This book offers the first strong evidence of the existence of CP violation in neutral B decays extracted from sophisticated B factories in the US and Japan. It also holds out the expectation of rare B decays and D, K physics in the near future. In addition, new physics beyond the Standard Model is described. Both experimental and theoretical points of view are given.
