Download or read book The Seamless City written by Rick Baker and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HOW DO WE KEEP AMERICA GREAT? Rick Baker, former mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida, provides a compelling—and challenging—answer: by making American cities great. And great cities are built first of all through strong leadership. During his two terms in office, Rick Baker worked toward a clear, uncompromising goal: to make St. Petersburg the best city in America. He led a downtown renaissance, rebuilt the most economically depressed area of the city, attracted businesses, worked to reduce violent crime, and made public schools a city priority—all with measurable results. The Seamless City offers practical advice, based on his nine years of experience in City Hall, to show how every mayor and city council can make their city dramatically better. In The Seamless City you’ll step behind the scenes of city government to learn: How maintaining basic amenities, like running water, requires constant vigilance—and sometimes tough decisions on the part of city leadership Why a vibrant downtown is essential to attract businesses and create jobs Why the most effective leadership is servant leadership How to find and implement the most effective solutions to a city’s most challenging problems Why city government needs to regard the city as a seamless whole, with no section under-served or overlooked

This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collaborative Networks for a Sustainable World Aiming to reach a sustainable world calls for a wider collaboration among multiple stakeholders from different origins, as the changes needed for sustainability exceed the capacity and capability of any individual actor. In recent years there has been a growing awareness both in the political sphere and in civil society including the bu- ness sectors, on the importance of sustainability. Therefore, this is an important and timely research issue, not only in terms of systems design but also as an effort to b- row and integrate contributions from different disciplines when designing and/or g- erning those systems. The discipline of collaborative networks especially, which has already emerged in many application sectors, shall play a key role in the implemen- tion of effective sustainability strategies. PRO-VE 2010 focused on sharing knowledge and experiences as well as identi- ing directions for further research and development in this area. The conference - dressed models, infrastructures, support tools, and governance principles developed for collaborative networks, as important resources to support multi-stakeholder s- tainable developments. Furthermore, the challenges of this theme open new research directions for CNs. PRO-VE 2010 held in St.

The main text uses a working medical services case study to illustrate how the outcomes of the various stages might be seen and measured and there is a set of 11 scenarios which put the e-Government process into a range of contexts.
Download or read book A Seamless Web written by Cheryll May and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-17 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, American art scholars have increasingly focused on the importance of cross-cultural exchanges during the nineteenth century. As essayist François Brunet puts it, mid-nineteenth century landscapes were “transnational . . . permeated by complex transactions where ‘American’ originality produced itself not only in imitation of or reaction against ‘European’ influences, . . . but as critical mirroring and incorporating of ‘European’ images.” Articles in this collection make clear that the “conversation of cultures” went both ways, with American artworks and culture also affecting European artistic and literary practice. Essays explore the transnational origin of many types of American artworks, from stained glass windows, which usually copied their European originals with great exactitude, to paintings and sculptures using distinctly American motifs, such as the Puritan and the cowboy, to distinguish American art students from their Parisian masters. It also examines American cultural icons, particularly the American Indian, appropriated by European writers, artists, and philosophers to embody primeval wisdom. A distinguished international group of scholars, including Brunet, Robert Rydell, and Peter Gibian, offer valuable perspectives on the ever-broadening field of transnational cultural studies.
